To be absolutely raging at this selfish garden CF'ery?!?!

So I live in a street where all the gardens face onto each other. Not a problem usually, most people very considerate.

Tonight one set of neighbours have set up an extension cable to move their TV out of the house onto the decking and are blasting (and i mean blasting!) an action movie out for everyone to hear. Think lots of machine gun fire and everything deafening everyone. No one can have their windows open and beyond that, can't enjoy their own garden because of the noise!!!

I'm staggered by this level of entitlement and given they recently had their garden redone, suspect this is not going to be the last time. AIBU to yell at them to take it indoors once it hits 10:30pm??

My neoghbours had a chiminea fire going at 1am last night. The smell of the smoke woke me up because I had every window open it my house last night. I just don't get it? Boiling hot night, let's light a fire wtf???

Dentistlakes · 20/07/2021 08:28

Absolutely ridiculous! There’s absolutely no need to watch TV outside. How anyone would consider that remotely acceptable I’d beyond me. The only situation that would be ok is for a big sporting event like the recent Euros final. Even then that’s pushing it IMO. I would be contacting your local council immediately to see what can be done. It’s simply not acceptable to disturb your neighbours like that.

SoundBar · 20/07/2021 08:31

Put your stereo outside and blast music at them until they turn it off.

Try AC DC, or kids Cocomelon videos

LakieLady · 20/07/2021 08:32

@Livelovebehappy

So many threads about crappy neighbours at the moment. What is wrong with people?
Hot weather = windows and doors open = you can hear a lot more of what's going on outside.

Or inside, in the case of my neighbours. They were watching tv with all their front windows open until 1am this morning. I tried shutting my window, but it got far too hot. I was about to decamp into the back bedroom, but then they turned it off and went to bed.

Our council are shit hot about smoke from bonfires and fire pits. If they keep doing it, report them and your council might send them a warning letter.

I reported my boss when I first moved to Sussex. He was always having fucking bonfires, even in the summer. He never knew it was me though. He thought it was one of my neighbours and asked me if I knew which one it was. Grin

Now would be a fantastic time to take up the bagpipes. Only practice outside of course

QuimReaper · 20/07/2021 08:48

Noise nuisance is my absolute top source of rage. I am lucky enough to live in a conservation area meaning there are lots of good-sized gardens all backing onto each other, which is a real rarity in London. It's a huge privilege and I find it flabbergasting that people are so inconsiderate of everyone else. Playing loud music (luckily I haven't encountered a garden cinema yet...) in one garden ruins the peace in a minimum of six other peoples' gardens, which if the weather is nice, they are probably trying to enjoy too. Dinner party chatter or even party noise I don't mind so much as long as it isn't screaming, but playing music that everyone else is forced to listen to is so completely selfish and inconsiderate, I find it genuinely hard to believe. Do people think garden fences are fucking soundproof bubbles or something?!

This is a brilliant idea!
MarieIVanArkleStinks · 20/07/2021 09:07

There's a reclamation yard near where I live which sells all manner of weird paraphernalia from old 1920s level crossing barriers/signage to Carter air-raid sirens. Obviously someone actually buys the things and stuffs them in their attics. They're not all that uncommon but as for random that takes the cake!

My contribution would be to stick a fire pit right next to their fence. Find some old rags/weeds to burn with the wood, that should smoke it up nicely.

Music to play on a loop: my recommendation is Rammstein's 'Pussy'. Hard rock, rude lyrics, half of which are in German - that's a win-win.

Failing that, 'I know a song that'll get on your nerves' sung full blast to the accompaniment of a recorder played at squealy-pitch. The bagpipes are also inspired!

Why are people such arseholes?

spinningspaniels · 20/07/2021 09:08

That's insane, OP, why would people take a TV outdoors..........

You need a nerf gun, and a wee bit of target practice.

Lemonmelonsun · 20/07/2021 09:23

Op if this was a one off for a party or something it wouldn't bother me but otherwise you may need to say something. Or show them the noise yourself m

Lemonmelonsun · 20/07/2021 09:25

Quim that's was I can't get, one person enjoying thier garden with loud music takes out all the other gardens? Why should wanting music trump everyone else

KirstenBlest · 20/07/2021 09:27

Not RTFT.

A game of cricket could sort it.

Oldraver · 20/07/2021 09:28

I love strimmer guy, it has to be one of the most annoying sounds ever

Askingforfriend · 20/07/2021 09:28

@whiteroseredrose

If you can't use your garden anyway, large bags of manure propped near your boundary. The smell will make it less pleasant for them sitting in their garden. It worked for my late DGM.
with a fan pointed towards them ;)
SometimesIFeedTheSparrows · 20/07/2021 09:28

I wonder if it's a smart TV which could be connected to with Bluetooth.

HopeHappy · 20/07/2021 09:33

@DdraigGoch

Is their electricity meter accessible? Modern ones have a master switch.
I know someone that did this once to a noisy party happening next door! They were really rude when they went round and politely asked them to keep the noise down at 2am, but he went back indoors and bided his time for half an hour or so, then snuck down the side of the house, opened the access box and turned off the power!

The people that lived there were, by that point, too drunk to figure out what was going on and how to fix it, so the party dispersed pretty quickly after that!
Really hate to upset people on this thread but outdoor TVs are a thing now, I saw one last week in Costco. Not just in Costco or one brand either.

Surely these are designed for large American houses though; where you you are far from neighbours, not suburbia!

LindaEllen · 20/07/2021 10:16

Next door but one to us have music really loud in their garden when it's warm, all day and night (until gone midnight anyway), to the extent that I can neither a) work outside which I was looking forward to, or b) read my book because I can't even concentrate on the plot! It's SO selfish.

Glittertwins · 20/07/2021 10:20

A universal remote control and then a little signal jammer to stop them turning it up again. My brother bought me one as a Christmas present years ago and we used to wind up our parents with it

beenbotheringme · 20/07/2021 10:33

Set your sprinkler up to water the plants 😉

QueeniesCroft · 20/07/2021 10:58
@QueeniesCroft

Why on earth would you need both a foghorn AND a goose scarer? Surely one would do the same job?

As an aside, are you in the habit of tiptoeing up behind geese and scaring them? Is it a new lockdown hobby?
Foghorns are for boats. I'm not even sure how this one is powered. It probably belonged to a long-ago boat owned by MrCroft .
Geese cause massive damage to crops, so need to be scared away. I like geese, but MrCroft is very protective of his grass. And his Bastard Sheep.

My DS is learning the bagpipes! Thankfully we have lovely neighbours AND they like his practicing.
