To be absolutely raging at this selfish garden CF'ery?!?!

So I live in a street where all the gardens face onto each other. Not a problem usually, most people very considerate.

Tonight one set of neighbours have set up an extension cable to move their TV out of the house onto the decking and are blasting (and i mean blasting!) an action movie out for everyone to hear. Think lots of machine gun fire and everything deafening everyone. No one can have their windows open and beyond that, can't enjoy their own garden because of the noise!!!

I'm staggered by this level of entitlement and given they recently had their garden redone, suspect this is not going to be the last time. AIBU to yell at them to take it indoors once it hits 10:30pm??

@foxandbee I wholeheartedly support you running for benign dictator. I shall design you a campaign badge. We need a slogan...

MissJeanLouise · 21/07/2021 22:33

We have one of those canister foghorns in the attic. It was used for scaring away the squirrels which had chewed their way in to the eaves - we needed to scare them out before blocking up the hole they had made to get in!

TeapotCafe · 21/07/2021 22:35

If he’s currently watching 8 out of 10 cats at full volume I’m on the same street as you @GardenCFery Shock

safariboot · 21/07/2021 22:36

Neighbourhoods seem to be waaay more full of entitled, inconsiderate cunts than they were 30 years ago and beyond.

30 years ago, was everyone terrified of having A Dispute because it might reduce the sale value of their home?

30 years ago you couldn’t get nearly as much stuff to make an almighty row with.

Outdoor karaoke machine......

IrishNinja · 21/07/2021 22:49

It could be worse. Our local nightmare neighbours now ex bf managed to stream porn very loudly to the outdoor cinema they set up in first lockdown at three in the morning. He was off his head on something so just blundered around in a panic while the whole estate could hear (and a few of us see) some woman screaming "oh yeah, right there, yeah fuck me hard" Shock

mamabear715 · 21/07/2021 23:36

I'm confused.. why doesn't the screen of the TV get covered in moths? I only have to leave the door open for 5 mins and there's a moth party on my (indoor) tv screen..

OnionsAreToxic · 21/07/2021 23:43

"
Just let them be. The film will be over soon. The amount of threads on how that go ‘aibu my neighbour is doing x, y and z in their garden’ is unreal. We all need to be a little bit more tolerant of each other imho."

You've got an outdoor cinema setup, haven't you?

curlymom · 21/07/2021 23:51

Do you live next door to me ? 😂
We only did it once and we are very detached 😂

Mirw · 21/07/2021 23:54

Report to police and council. Where we are the council come out, measure noise and slap and enforcement order on them. 2 enforcement orders in a, week, they confiscate the equipment. 3 they issue an ASBO to everyone in the house. Kids get a, shoxmck when they apply for jobs and it shows up on a Disclosure that they have an ASBO. Parents get a shock too as it can affect getting a mortgage, a bank loan, even when applying for a visa to go on holiday. Payback!!

Oh my god, that is hilarious!
Lemonmelonsun · 22/07/2021 00:15

@Mirw

Where are you!! It's upsetting that some councils slap this down and others are useless!

jontyl · 22/07/2021 05:06

Get a recorder and play it badly

DebHagland · 22/07/2021 08:37

My mum was living in a flat and the neighbors kid was rollerskating up and down the communal passageway, it sounded like a jet aircraft taking off, when my mum asked the neighbors to stop their daughter doing it she was told to f... off and his daughter can do what she likes.
I solved the problem, I borrowed a disco deck off my friend, set it up in the bedroom with the speakers facing the neighbors wall and played Souxie and the Banshee's music at full blast (it was so loud we had to wear ear defenders).
Cured the problem.

Praguemum · 22/07/2021 08:54

Maybe an 'accident' with the hose during a bit of late night plant watering?

Tiburon · 22/07/2021 08:59

Fantastic. Agreed.

Bluebelle100 · 22/07/2021 09:49

Bluetooth headphones would be the answer if they cared!

copyright law is probably tighter and more strict than a lot of other laws, so tackling from this angle may have more effect than from a noise and nuisance aspect.

If this continues then it maybe a channel to investigate

Thank you . . . this may come in useful.
Theoldcuriosityshop · 22/07/2021 12:34

I must be so lucky, all my neighbours are quiet. The only thing I can hear is my neighbours playing the piano, it's beautiful. They always ask if it's annoying me, absolutely not, it's glorious.

notsofussy · 22/07/2021 15:03

Dizzyrabbit.
I think most of the people on here are glad that you are not their neighbour. I wonder what your neighbours think of you?

LizzieW1969 · 22/07/2021 15:33

@notsofussy

I doubt that Dizzyrabbit even cares what their neighbours think about them. People like that don’t care basically.

YANBU, OP, your neighbours sound very selfish and entitled.

MakeMathsFun · 23/07/2021 23:46

You are definitely within your your rights to be peaved off. However, from my experience this kind of (selfish) neighbour often wants an escalated fracas, so that they can complain about your complaining. To this end, I would not pleasure them with such actions as "yelling". Instead I would politely ask them to stop. If they become aggressive, then keep calm (nomatter how hard this might be - as the calm person is the person in charge). If no success, remind them that you have politely asked them to stop. If it escalates, perhaps other neighbours can follow up just as calmly. If the twats continue, then make sure you have a written record of every interaction with the neighbour: when and what they did, you said, they said/did, etc. After 3 attempts, contact the Police. Whatever you do, avoid yelling or swearing at them. Be assertive but polite. As long as you show reason and respect, then you can point this out and ask them if their noise levels show others the same level of reason and respect. If this fails, then I wouldn't recommend that your hosepipe waters their TV by mistake. Nonetheless, they could be made aware of the fact that sudden rain would soon reverse their actions.

Lizziespring · 24/07/2021 18:58

my neighbours had a huge party in our communal garden last weekend, without inviting or telling anyone else in the street. The host is an Old Etonian, with the charm and empathy of someone who knows himself to be above all criticism. Several neighbours including me called the council noise team, who had to come back three times, finally with the police in tow. Altho it was exhausting at the time, retrospectively it has really bonded the neighbourhood. Special love now abounds for the woman who flung open her window to yell STFU at 2am, at a bundle of poshly braying drunks who were - briefly - shocked into silence. Has Lockdown deleted all social skills?
