I’m fed up with the word ping.

I’ve seen it so many times on this forum over the last few days the word doesn’t even look right anymore. Even worse- pinged! No one was pinged. You can’t ping a person. Ping is a sound.

There- I’ve used up the entire “ping” quota for the rest of the century. You’ll all have to think of a different word to use now. Wink

I apologise, sincerely.

But I just couldn't resist.

Love Quarantini! The New Bloody Normal can do one though.

@GiantWingedWaspMoth

Ping is very much a verb, and has been used in that way for years in the tech world.
Yes, it absolutely has.
SchrodingersImmigrant · 19/07/2021 20:19

Daily mail has currently an article with "United Pingdom". Genious 😁

TSSDNCOP · 19/07/2021 20:25

I quite like pingdemic, which has taken over my previous favourite pannyd

My bets noir is texted as in "I texted you"

Possibly only topped by "I was sat"

I knew the minute I heard Brexit that was going to make me feel murderous many times a day for many years

bluewanda · 19/07/2021 20:26

Welcome to the United Pingdom Grin

TSSDNCOP · 19/07/2021 20:27

FFS bete noir, I don't say chester draws I promise

SpongeBarb · 19/07/2021 20:30

The word 'Brexit' is the main reason I couldn't listen to the news for three years afterwards.

MotionActivatedDog · 19/07/2021 20:30

I know someone who says textses. As in “I got three textses from test and trace yesterday”

'Excited for' really irritates me these days too. Sadly I hear it a lot as I have an eleven year old.

I'm also fed up of the word Ping being overused lately... so anyone who uses it more than once day can 'Ping-off' as far as I'm concerned! Grin

Nobranothanks · 19/07/2021 20:48

PINGDEMIC

🤬😡

WoolieLiberal · 19/07/2021 20:50

I love the word “ping!”

I love all onomatopoeia!

'Called out'.

Just say disagreed with. Please.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/07/2021 23:45

I don’t like “ping” to describe an alert from the NHS covid app. Trivialises the whole thing.

But I was pushed over the edge by the Op on her who called an email from test and trace a “ping”. That’s not a ping even in this new usage.

It's literally the only good thing to come out of covid- didn't hear fucking Brexit for ages!

This OP?! Shock I really hope not, because if so I smell BS and she's not actually fed up with the word. Probably started it just to use the word. You just can't trust anyone these days! I was so invested in the thread.
