I’m fed up with the word ping.

I’ve seen it so many times on this forum over the last few days the word doesn’t even look right anymore. Even worse- pinged! No one was pinged. You can’t ping a person. Ping is a sound.

There- I’ve used up the entire “ping” quota for the rest of the century. You’ll all have to think of a different word to use now.

Computers have been pinging each other since the 80s. Just because you don't like it for some reason doesnt mean it's not really a verb.

On the internet, ping means latency (in ms). So a ping of 20ms is 1-50th of a second. The lower the better.

Whilst I understand annoyance at a misuse of the word, and also dislike overuse of words ('big' for example), I think it is now widely understood as to the context and meaning.

I would prefer to hear a clunk noise, that of the Prime Minister being locked in a cell awaiting criminal charges.
