Reporting someone for failing to isolate

WouldYouShouldI · 17/07/2021 00:44

Under what circumstances would you report someone for failing to isolate? Would you report any breach, no breach, or would it depend on circumstances?

I've been told by a friend that a family member of theirs (should be isolating because someone they live with has tested positive) is not isolating, and is even going out to work- and they work with vulnerable people in a medical environment!

Should I report them regardless of the possible consequences on my friend (who will be blamed if they get caught)? Or encourage my friend to do the same, again despite the consequences?

I'm torn!

Nazi Germany comparisons are very odd too and clearly not very well-informed.

Really? How about Alan Bennett's A Lady of Letters, then?

No one here, including the OP, is fully aware of the facts.

aubreyii · 17/07/2021 07:21

@jumpbounce

And quite frankly the UK situation during a pandemic, (and let's not forget we are not the only country in the world with restrictions, infact we probably are the only one having a 'freedom day') is not comparable to nazi Germany. Wise up
It's not comparable to Nazi Germany, but there are parallels with Germany during the 1920s as it moved slowly TOWARDS Hitler taking power. That's the point. No one is saying we are living under a Nazi state but that things are moving that way - read up on the Weimar Republic
minatrina · 17/07/2021 07:22

@aubreyii

Report. Definitely. The fuckwits who cannot see that what person A does affects person B,C,D etc are idiots. "Mind your own business" was also used in Weimar and Nazi Germany by those willing to turn a blind eye to the atrocities going on.

Jewish neighbour being beaten up? Mind your own business, keep your nose out, it doesn't affect you" was the far far too frequent view.

Thank you omg

Position A in this scenario is people concerned with minding their own business at the expense of others

Position B is people being concerned about the fate of other people

Which one of this sounds more welcoming to a fascist regime?

User5827372728 · 17/07/2021 07:23

Yes it’s an major major insult to Jewish families and other victims such as homosexuals who’s loved ones were murdered, used as human medical experiments, locked in ghettos by Nazis for the comparison to be made.

warmfluffytowels · 17/07/2021 07:23

@minatrina so what's the solution, live in and out of lockdown forever?

What about for flu? Should we start having lockdowns for that as well? Or stomach bugs?

Maybe we should all just live inside our own four walls for the rest of our days Hmm

COVID is here to stay. We have to learn to live with it like we live with numerous other virus's, all of which have the potential to kill people.

Bonjourfern · 17/07/2021 07:23

@nancywhitehead Completely agree with your post and thank you for someone finally saying about the ignorance in the comparison to Nazi Germany and fascism!

Cam2020 · 17/07/2021 07:24

Except those tests have high false negatives rates. Which is why the rules about testing and isolation are as they are.

You don't need to educate me, I said perhaps they think - not me.

Comprehension standards down the toilet again on Mumnet.

StealthPolarBear · 17/07/2021 07:25

Apologies I realised that afterwards, but decided my post added to your point. No need for nastiness please.

jihhy · 17/07/2021 07:25

Exactly

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/07/2021 07:26

She may work with the medically vulnerable but surely uses PPE, social distancing

Justsocross · 17/07/2021 07:26

My dad died of covid given to him by medical staff . So yes I would report . I do understand the financial costs to people but no one should die because people who are meant to help are giving people killer diseases

StealthPolarBear · 17/07/2021 07:27

You'd hope but if she fails to follow the law what night she do with guidance?

minatrina · 17/07/2021 07:27

@warmfluffytowels being in lockdown forever is nothing to do with this conversation, and I don't think anyone's suggesting that apart from the "muh freedom day" crowd when they want to make childish arguments.

Covid is not comparable to the flu. Yes, we have to live with covid - that means not merrily going along and pretending it doesn't exist. It means adjusting our lives to work around it.

We are the only country currently taking this "let it rip" approach. We've been widely denounced by major organisations and other governments as immoral and stupid for this.

So so sorry :(

Who is advocating for this?

It completely minimises their experiences to compare the situations.

This isn't a thread about lockdown. On this site when anyone suggests someone follows the very fucking rules we have in place to AVOID lockdowns...we aren't in a damn lockdown, we have isolation as a law to mitigate the risks currently so we don't need to be in a lockdown then the only comments from people trying to justify ignoring these laws are 'we can't live in lockdown forever/lockdown lovers" Hmm

We live with many restrictions both laws and guidelines in our lives, wear your seat belt, keep your car road worthy, don't smoke in indoor public spaces due to passive smoking - protect others, 48 hour rule with norovirus, you could go on all day ...is it only covid laws we are allowed to break? Or should we just say fuck it no one wants to be dictated to on what to do so let's just remove all laws and restrictions on everything so we can have 'freedom' to do what we want?

FrankButchersDickieBow · 17/07/2021 07:31

My husband and daughter both had covid and I was allowed to take partbin a study where I done a pcr test and lft every day. If it was negative, I was allowed to go about my business. Is it possible they are taking part in the DCTS testing?

Catlover77 · 17/07/2021 07:31

If they work in social care and fail to isolate, this is a disciplinary matter. Vulnerable people will be affected. & PP saying they will be vaccinated - people are still catching it after vaccination

I’m Jewish and I don’t take offence, I actually agree with the comparisons. People salivating to dob people in for living their lives- typical of a mn middle class masses for whom isolation means a house , garden and regular income still. Mine your own! Does everyone not realise isolations will stop, the virus won’t- at some point death is always a possibility
COL1N · 17/07/2021 07:32

Bloody hell, get a grip!

I'd heard about these. Fingers crossed this is a way out of isolation. We can't carry on like this!
warmfluffytowels · 17/07/2021 07:34

Of course we do, but none of those restrictions mean people have to regularly take big chunks of time off work (with no pay) simply for being in contact with someone who is unwell.

That's not sustainable in the long run. People have bills to pay, children to feed, homes to pay for. You can't just expect people who are perfectly well in themselves to isolate for 7-10 days just because they're in touch with someone who has a virus.

That rule is destroying small businesses as they keep having to close. Businesses can only tolerate so much loss before they have no choice but to close for good, putting people out of work.

I can't blame anyone for not isolating if doing so means they're can't feed their kids or pay their rent.

SD1978 · 17/07/2021 07:35

Working in healthcare, they should be isolating, and with a family member positive it's not juts a random ping. This would concern me greatly. I'm suprised people don't find this an issue.
