To wonder how anyone can think Boris Johnson is doing a good job

Can't believe the mess of opening everything up Monday when the cases are going up so quickly. And when he gives speeches they're almost incoherent most of the time. I'm wondering who can look at how it's all going and not despair, I think he's rubbish at the job.

My guess is that they don't - they are just so pigheaded they won't admit any other way. Ditto any ramifications of Brexit

ilovesooty · 16/07/2021 21:05

@lljkk

Johnson will win next GE with an only slightly smaller landslide in 2024. Not what I want, just what I expect.
Agreed.

Because people are shit, just like he is.

x2boys · 16/07/2021 21:05

@subsy1

"Do I think I or anyone else could do better: No "

Jacinda Ardern seems to have done, and be doing, a far better job!

Yes because New Zealand is totally comparable with the UK 🙄

@TARDISLover

Do I like boris: No Do I surport the Conservatives : Hell no Do I think he’s doing a good job: no Do I think I or anyone else could do better: No

I do think we are living in difficult times and I highly doubt that anyone could do much better. No matter what anyone does there would always be someone unhappy with what is going on.

Bloody hell. I could definitely do better.
HmmmmmmInteresting · 16/07/2021 21:07

I think my cat would do a better job and she's been dead for ten years.

I respect that

Ugzbugz · 16/07/2021 21:09

But everyone thought he was a walker iver Xmas and lockdown when 100s dying now its only cases and everyone has got what they want, everyone is moaning.

I don't know anywhere except 1 pub that is resuming normality.

Katekarate · 16/07/2021 21:11

I volunteer in a cafe and we all agreed we would prefer to carry on with current measures for the next few weeks.

Lots of people in fact everyone I know thinks masks while obviously annoying do make sense and are a small price to pay just now.

Whether the uk is comparable to NZ is irrelevant in terms of leadership. Throughout the pandemic JA has come across as sensible and measured in her approach, has showed empathy and played the team NZ card: we all do our part to protect each other.
Meanwhile our govt has played the one rule for us and one rule for the rest of you card.

Katekarate · 16/07/2021 21:14

Nobody could have done better! to me it's like saying that while Frank Spencer is putting up my new conservatory

Ach stop your whinging everyone, it's Freedom Day on Monday!

and it's going to get worse and worse due to our incompetent and inept PM

BoredZelda · 16/07/2021 21:21

What does Captain Hindsight say?

When international leaders and scientists are calling you a risk to the world, it hardly needs hindsight.

BUT CORBYN.

…hasn’t been the leader of the Labour Party since April 2020. He wouldn’t have been involved in any of the Covid stuff. Why him?

I feel the same way about Sturgeon. Her decisions have been as shit as his, but is better at giving speeches so people think she’s done fabulously.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/07/2021 21:31

I don't think he's doing a good job at all. I'd have actually had some respect and admiration had he said "Look I'm going to be honest, This is all new to us and we don't fully know what we're doing". However he's just clowned his way through it. That's an insult to a clown. Double standards, moving goal posts. Bringing out insane rules. Wasn't no singing one of them or have I. cracked up. Also pubs closing at 10 o'clock. I didn't know Vivid was that clever and could tell the time. Confused. I could go on all night.
However this is who the British Public Voted for. No point moaning now.They ain't going anywhere I'd say for decades. For some reason the Tories are idolized.
Plus he's got no opposition has he when he's up against Mr I'm backing Boris.

FatCatThinCat · 16/07/2021 21:36

I expect it comes from pure selfishness. They're alive, they haven't lost anyone they care about to covid, and their income hasn't taken a hit. Ergo he's doing a good job (for them) as they don't give a shit about anyone else.

Katekarate · 16/07/2021 21:37

They ain't going anywhere I'd say for decades

Even if the Tories aren't, I don't reckon he'll stay around for years and years because he comes across as if it's all too much like hard work and too much hassle for him. He only seems to be enjoying himself when he's dressing up in hi-vis and going round factories and things, which in itself doesn't seem like the most urgent thing to be doing during a pandemic

Sarcasm maybe.

StoneofDestiny · 16/07/2021 21:46

He won't be hanging around to accept accountability - he will be off to 'spend more time with his family' and take up his seat in the Lords.

Livelovebehappy · 16/07/2021 22:03

What’s the alternative to lifting restrictions? The people I’m pissed off at are the ones not getting their vaccines, putting us into this never ending circle of lockdowns. He’s tried to get us all vaccinated but there are idiots amongst us who don’t want them, and short of tying them down, there’s not a lot else the government can do. Boris is probably just shrugging his shoulders thinking well you can’t argue with stupid, just let them get on with it.

notanothertakeaway · 16/07/2021 22:05

I'm surprised BJ is still around. I assumed that, when vaccine programme got going, and people felt a bit more positive, he would resign, citing long covid, and leave on a bit of a high / with public sympathy

Katekarate · 16/07/2021 22:09

He’s tried to get us all vaccinated

Not so because young people only recently had the chance for a first vaccine and under 18s can't have one at all. There are vulnerable people who for various reasons can't be vaccinated. It's too early to be lifting all restrictions and worse he's let the Delta variant into our country because he wanted to go to India, presumably for the dress up/photo opportunities as much as anything

Yes I thought he might have gone first half of this year. I wonder what he's hanging around for really - what's in it for him? He's already moaned that the money's not enough

OhWhyNot · 16/07/2021 22:13

Well you are in good company on MN of you want others to agree with you

MN is always wrong in regardless to elections and voting popularity

Labour has been destroyed and until they have a leader that wins the public over Boris Johnson is staying around as long as he wants to

alibongo5 · 16/07/2021 22:17

@FindingMeno

Just don't. We had a chance at a PM who actually cared. Instead we ended up with this.
This completely. For those saying no-one could have done better, it is utterly apparent that he cannot do a job, let alone a good one and is a lazy, clueless, attention-seeking, person-pleasing, sociopathic apology for a prime minister.

And yes, he's basically thrown his hands up and said "I don't know what to do, you're on your own now".

Katekarate · 16/07/2021 22:18

Well you are in good company on MN of you want others to agree with you

I don't mind at all if they disagree because I would be genuinely interested to know what people think is good about him or how he is doing a good job

OP posts:
OhWhyNot · 16/07/2021 22:20

Well you must know you will get few answers on here

Regardless of that you need a strong opposition. It’s not there

GirlAloud · 16/07/2021 22:24

As an ex Labour activist I blame my old party for the fact that Johnson is Prime Minister. Making Corbyn leader, when everyone knew he was completely useless and unelectable in the country was an act of political self-harm.

Labour got the result they deserved at the 2019 general election, and Britain has the Prime Minister it deserves.
