To wonder how anyone can think Boris Johnson is doing a good job

Can't believe the mess of opening everything up Monday when the cases are going up so quickly. And when he gives speeches they're almost incoherent most of the time. I'm wondering who can look at how it's all going and not despair, I think he's rubbish at the job.

Or do you think Labour would have magically got us through the pandemic without massive spending? Mistakes have been made, it’s true, but ince again hindsight is a wonderful tool

I don’t think Labour would have handed millions of £ to their friends for non existent PPE or useless track and trace systems.

Dustyboots · 17/07/2021 23:47

I think public opinion is turning against Boris now.

Graphista · 17/07/2021 23:51

The vast majority of Tory voting decisions seemed to be predicated on not wanting to pay more tax. That went well - this government’s spending exceeds Labour’s wildest dreams and we’re all going to pay for it.

Yet still people believe the myth that "tories are good for the economy" even though aside from what you mention that's been widely disproven

@Pottedpalm I don't think the spending would have disappeared into back pockets!! Or at least not nearly as much! That's not even a new Tory issue as I said before that kind of behaviour was prevalent in the Thatcherite govt too

You keep mentioning "hindsight" most if not all of the cock ups were predicted and warned against!

@Brefugee totally agree on the lying - watch the film!

Graphista · 17/07/2021 23:52

@Dustyboots we can only hope, too slowly too plus voters have short memories - 3 years until next GE

Blossomtoes · 17/07/2021 23:57

3 years until next GE

Maybe. Apparently Johnson wants to get rid of the Fixed Term Parliament Act, given his majority it could be history soon.

Pheasantplucker2 · 17/07/2021 23:58

Why so we have who would have done a better job?

FoolsAssassin · 18/07/2021 07:09

Well May negotiated a better Brexit deal than Johnson so it’s not to much of a leap to imagine she might have done better with the Pandemic. She doesn’t constantly lie either.

Hunt appears semi competent and doesn’t lie at the drop of a hat. Suspect he isn’t back in the specially chosen for belief in Brexit cabinet as he would show up how completely shit most are and Johnson sees him as a bug threat. Stewart and Elwood appear to be relatively competent and don’t lie at a drop of a hat. The Downing Street cat is provably more competent than Johnson if he is still alive.

I can’t stand Hunt and May but can can see they are likely to be more competent than the Lie Minister. I think when people look back I’m the future there will be a consensus that having Johnsom in charge was a complete utter disaster.

FoolsAssassin · 18/07/2021 07:12

@memberofthewedding

Why so we have who would have done a better job?
And if you had bothered to read the thread you will have seen a fair few suggestions that people consider to be better than Johnson.

This ‘but who do we have who could do better?’ keeps getting trotted out and is the up to date version of ‘but he’s better than Corbyn’.

Positively · 18/07/2021 07:21

Absolutely agree with all the posts saying Theresa May would have done a better job. Worked at the Home Office when she was Home Secretary and I although I don’t agree with some of her politics there is no denying she was a strong Home Secretary and was so in to the details and numbers. It’s a crying shame we have Boris.

HappydaysArehere · 18/07/2021 07:53

@StoneofDestiny

He was a lying, shagaholic poseur before he was elected. He still is. No surprise to anybody with a brain he has mishandled everything. He did only put himself forward to advance his own reputation by 'getting Brexit done'. He offered nothing else. He was the best the Tories had to offer - says a lot about the rest of them.

We are stuck with him - the most vomit inducing PM in history.

Yep! Has he got Brexit done? If so I’ve missed something.
Onlinedilema · 18/07/2021 09:01

He appeals to the racist, misogynistic voters.
Example, look at the stick Tracy Brabin got for wait for it.....wearing a dress without a should in it!!!!! No imagine she had had to have a couple of abortions after getting pregnant to her much younger lover. Had had several children to various different men, all whilst being married to a man who she was cheating on. Imagine her spending tax payers money wining and dining another bloke in the hope that she could shag him too, again whilst still married to another man. Think hard now, would the general public have elected her as PM. Oh and let's throw in a few quotes about black people having watermelon smiles.
Yep, admit it the people who vote for Johnson are racist and misogynists.

Onlinedilema · 18/07/2021 09:03

Should=shoulder

Onlinedilema · 18/07/2021 09:16

I am also livid that the working poor which includes myself and dh will have to pay for all the rich Tory scum who have profitted from this pandemic. This government have wasted more money than previous Labour governments lining the pockets of their rich mates and families. Simultaneously draining the NHS. Yes I bloody object to paying for this shit show.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you voted for Brexit then why are you not up in arms about the NHS not being able to cope? Why? You believed the hype about the extra £350 million per week being spent on the NHS so why the fuck are you not bombarding parliament asking where that money is?
Don't tell me it was a lie. You voted for it, now you can be told this for the rest of your life as far as I'm concerned. You voted for this. You can suffer the consequences. I don't have one ounce of sympathy for you when you become ill and cannot be treated, not one. Blame yourself.

It's not up to you to decide what's relevant on a thread and what isn't.

Why didn't you skip over mine?

Mainly because you highlighted my username in your post.

It is absolutely up to me if I want to comment.

So because your name was highlighted you couldn't follow your own advice to skip over a post?

Your only comment was to say you were not interested in a post I directed to someone else.

So because your name was highlighted you couldn't follow your own advice to skip over a post?

Strangely no.

Blossomtoes · 18/07/2021 10:31

Oh cut it out, you two. If you want to squabble open a new thread for the purpose. Nobody wants to read you sniping at each other.

ancientgran · 18/07/2021 10:33

Clavinova you have commented on other peoples posts, why is it oK for you not me.

I'm not sure what your issue is but you clearly have an issue. You just have to accept that like everyone else on here I can comment on or reply to other posts.

Perhaps it's age, there is alot of age discrimination on here and if that's your issue get over it, if you're lucky you will be ancient one day.

As far as I'm concerned anyone who voted for Johnson as leader of their party, or voted Tory endorsing him as prime minister is as lacking in moral integrity as he is.
Katekarate · 18/07/2021 10:54

I don't blame people who voted for him particularly, as they couldn't necessarily have known he would be this useless and Corbyn seemed disastrous as well. I do question why anyone would support him now though, having seen how he is doing.

You just have to accept that like everyone else on here I can comment on or reply to other posts.

And you have to accept that some/many posts might not seem interesting/relevant to you.

Perhaps it's age

Nothing to do with your age - Angela Rayner is a gran at 37.

I don't accept that. They saw how he was as mayor - wanted all the fun bits and to accept the glory of things that worked well (that had been set up under the previous mayor). Garden bridge anyone? None of this was hidden. His columns in the Telegraph? not hidden. The lies he spread about the EU (bendy bananas etc) not hidden. The EU set up a page on their website debunking lies about what it does, and his comments feature A LOT.

His wives/mistresses/multiple children - none of this was new news.

And yet - people voted for him. And now "he's doing his best"? REALLY?
