We have friends visiting for a few days. One of their DTs has come down with a sudden and strong continuous new cough, she's got a sore throat and a sniffly nose but no temp (they haven't checked this but child seems ok to be fair).

They don't seem bothered and are laughing away 'definitely not Corona! Ha ha'

I'm silently horrified that they haven't packed up and gone, that they won't isolate or take a test. They don't believe in testing children, or isolating.

We're totally buggered if one of my kids gets it, from a logistics perspective with plans we have for next few weeks.

AIBU to be cross with their lack of concern? I don't want to make a fuss so am silently seething.

Discussed with DH that it's safe to say their behaviour was pretty shocking. We don't understand why they didn't leave ASAP and why they don't want to test the children.

Your DH is also at fault.. I recall your distress...

glad you are all okay 🌸

They'd have been out immediately the girl started coughing if they'd been here. We don't let our friend come round because he's anti-mask, anti-vaxx. I have a CEV adult DS1 who we haven't seen in 16 months, his hospital hasn't even allowed him out of his house.

gingerbiscuits · 19/07/2021 13:52

If you won't ask them to leave or insist they get tested etc then I'm not sure what you're expecting people to say??

Lemonyfuckit · 19/07/2021 14:11

I'm really concerned that she's a GP, so seeing clinically vulnerable patients, yet not testing or isolating. Surely that should be reported?

Raindancer411 · 20/07/2021 00:09

@Lemonyfuckit This..

@BigPyjamas hate to be the bearer of the bad news but my DD's symptoms exactly and she tested negative for three days of lateral testing and on day four came up positive! Then we all had pcr tests, she is still positive, we aren't but my DH is in retail of course he had to tell his manager we have been isolating since the positive result! They are so irresponsible especially a GP - thought we all wanted to save NHS how come a GP can have this attitude is unbelievable!!

HONEYBUG · 20/07/2021 00:34

@Mulhollandmagoo our DD tested positive on pcr test, DH and I tested negative test results received today and got a call from test and trace we were told we had to isolate for 10 days but 10 days is counted as of the first day of the symptoms so we have until Friday now to isolate since last Tuesday - We also got text from nhs saying notifying of 10 days isolation

Twoforthree · 20/07/2021 00:41

Thank you for being responsible.

Your friends behavior is shocking especially as she's a GP. However, there are other coughs going around that isn't covid. My child (under 5) was coughing a lot recently. Very frequently. We did take her for a PCR test and it was negative. My other child caught that same cough days later.

BigPyjamas · 20/07/2021 08:03

Hang on, I though, that as she was 'part of my household' whilst she visited, we all had to isolate? That a negative test (on a household member) doesn't stop this isolation?

She was here several days and nights, coughing and feeling unwell throughout. They refused to test her, so we don't know if it was or wasn't Corona.

If a member of my household has symptoms don't we all have to isolate?

@BigPyjamas if your household member tests positive even others test negative the whole household has to isolate- that happened to us our isolation is over on Thursday

Mindymomo · 20/07/2021 08:53

The child had symptoms and was staying with you, so as close contact you should isolate despite the dumb fact that they won’t test child. Whilst most including myself find it alarming that a GP wouldn’t test their child, I’m not surprised by their attitude. I personally would want to know either way.

@BigPyjamas

I think you did the noble thing, and legally not sure what you should have done.

But thank you for trying to stop the spread
