Do you even find yourself suddenly remembering a particular scenario, and wondering where the people involved are today, if the behaviour is still carrying on, did she ever LTB, etc?

Even if the thread had a resolution to the scenario, if things ever repeated again?

The one that came into my mind vividly today was about a woman who'd gone to collect her child (believe it was a DD) and came home to find that her husband had left the key in the door on the other side meaning they couldn't get in, and despite being able to see 'D'H in the window and signalling to him, he refused to come and open the door as he was on a work call? From memory they were left waiting for about an hour and DD had to wee in the garden.

I remember feeling so outraged for her, and find myself wondering now if it was just a one off or if the bastard has continued doing shitty things to them.

Any other ones that have left an impression?

There was a poster who wrote very long, detailed posts over several extremely intense threads, writing almost entirely in full on CAPS LOCK mode.

expat101 · 13/07/2021 02:19

The one that stands out for me hasn't been mentioned yet...

I'm sure it was in the "Am I being unreasonable" category and the forum was pretty close to being 100% in agreement that she was not being unreasonable in her thinking.

The poster had become drunk at a party elsewhere and one of her relatives took her back home to sleep it off.

She woke up and her anus was sore, by then her partner was home from the same party and admitted raping her. And his excuse was it was her fault he did it because she was so drunk...

We all told her that it wasn't her fault and to seek help. The thread was deleted (Im sure by MN) as the poster requested its removal.

I often wonder if she left the moron and had him charged? And I also hope she told her family what happened and has their full support too.

@topwings

There was a really lovely thread a couple of years ago from a woman who was getting building work done and fancied the (younger) builder.

It went on for a couple of weeks and there were nicknames for all the builders (there was a plasterer who used stilts). She ended up going out with the boss, not the younger guy. The boss had seemed lovely from the start and most posters were rooting for her to pick him.

She seemed like a really nice woman, I hope she's well.

All true :). Not going out with him any longer, but we’re still friends (occasionally with benefits - not many this year thanks to Covid)!

And I’m still friendly with the younger one (who was dentally challenged) but definitely no benefits!

I often think of a little boy who hadn’t been invited to a party that the rest of his class had been invited to. The party giver lived next door to the little boy and be watched them all arrive and got very upset. The kicker was (well, one of them) that the party giver’s df was the local vicar. I think about that little boy a lot :(.

Not sure if I imagined this one, but does anyone remember a thread where the father of the family was seriously ill in hospital, and when his family rushed to see him, there was another family already there claiming to be his family too? So, two wives, two sets of children, neither knew about the other. It would have been 10+ years ago.

GeorgeAnneAndTimmytoo · 13/07/2021 03:49

I am amazed at everyone’s ability to remember posters‘ names.

One of the worst trolls was a few years back when they pretended that their son had cancer! They even posted photos of a child’s bruised legs, claimed they were allowed home before driving them to GOSH and had people wanting to donate and calling themselves „Ollys army“ or whatever name the person chose. They were outed when medical professionals flagged inconsistencies in their posts.

I often thought about how other parents with truly sick children felt about that.

On a lighter note does anyone remember tbe locked safe Saga a few years back? Everyone was waiting for news about what might be in it (think the OP was on NZ). Don’t think we ever found out?

@GeorgeAnneAndTimmytoo I believe there was more than one safe thread. but one was mine. Not nz but California. It was quite a saga, all real, cost quite a bit to open and this was the treasure 😣

@Maireas

Remember the £40 per head BBQ, where the hostess had a panic attack and they left without eating? I still can't fathom why they paid £80 to an aquintance for a back garden BBQ. I do wonder what happened, though.
They got the money back
Maireas · 13/07/2021 06:12

@JSL52 - did they ask for the money back? Grin

In answer to one question upthread, Maryz was one of the brilliant long-term posters who was banned because of her posts on the feminist boards.

Can confirm that the woman who got it together with the gardener ("Green eyed Gardener") was the same poster who "found" 10K in the hedge.

Both absolute horseshit Grin

The Oliver troll was outed when every single Mumsnetter who hadn't signed up for Oliver's Army pointed out it was a load of shite. It doesn't take a doctor to do a search on a photo and discover you've harvested a pic from Google.
RuggerHug · 13/07/2021 08:01

Ooooh I just remembered another one. The OP had moved somewhere where she didn't speak the language and said everyone in the village was being racist because they could switch to English if they wanted to when she arrived but didn't. Lots of 'well are you making an effort to speak in their language at least, you did move there posts'. Within a few updates I was 90% sure I knew where she was talking about, it was confirmed by a different poster. It got deleted in the end as it was outing but I wonder if she did settle and learn because it's a lovely place.

Happy to confirm trickytreelou is still around on MN, new name, and has the relatively quiet life now she always wanted. Grin

DS is 8 and recently showed me how to access WiFi on holiday. Shock Smile

Two rescue cats passed at the grand ages of 18 and 19. Single, kept house, same job, never see or hear from Chunt.

Now owned by a young rescue tabby who calls all the shots.

Thank you to those who thought of us. Flowers

@MarthaJonesPhone

I often wonder about the woman who moved to a house in a village with her husband and kept finding random Christmas decorations on their walks.

I seem to remember it took a sinister turn when someone kept banging on the doors at night.

It was quite chilling. I never found the thread again.

This is the one I was talking about! I really would love to know what was going on there.

Drovememad · 13/07/2021 08:42

I remember one (wasn't a member then so didn't comment). It was a mother whose child had passed away very recently from a genetic illness, her second child was dying. This all happened within two/three weeks, yet she was posting regular updates on MN. She was as relaxed as anything, in the face of total devastation.

She got called out on it, it was shocking unbelievable.

That's great to hear @RavenT.

How can our boy be 8! I remember him being born only last year......

LookItsMeAgain · 13/07/2021 08:49

One poster that stuck with me was from some time ago and her MiL kept coming into her house and stealing the swimsuit and clothes of the OP's daughter. I don't know why it stuck with me. The MiL had absolutely no concept of boundaries and I don't think that the OP's marriage survived. I do hope she is in a much better place in her life now and that her little girl is all grown up and is happy.

DoucheCanoe · 13/07/2021 09:04

Raven.

Her posts were amongst the first to be grabbed and published by the bastard media when she posted about her struggles with SS trying to access help/support for her daughter who had severe disabilities. This led to her going public so she name-changed but haven't seen her around for a long time.

I often wonder how they're all doing now.

Geamhradh · 13/07/2021 09:10

Riven.
Doing fine I believe.
In fairness to the media (I know, I know) it was actually a group of MNers who took her story to the outside world which is how the press got hold of it. Their kindness is in no doubt, but it backfired spectacularly.
