Do you even find yourself suddenly remembering a particular scenario, and wondering where the people involved are today, if the behaviour is still carrying on, did she ever LTB, etc?

Even if the thread had a resolution to the scenario, if things ever repeated again?

The one that came into my mind vividly today was about a woman who'd gone to collect her child (believe it was a DD) and came home to find that her husband had left the key in the door on the other side meaning they couldn't get in, and despite being able to see 'D'H in the window and signalling to him, he refused to come and open the door as he was on a work call? From memory they were left waiting for about an hour and DD had to wee in the garden.

I remember feeling so outraged for her, and find myself wondering now if it was just a one off or if the bastard has continued doing shitty things to them.

Any other ones that have left an impression?

What? Does someone know the solution/answer/punchline to the Boswell joke??

Blacktothepink · 12/07/2021 23:51

The worst told joke of many a year then Grin

TiredButDancing · 12/07/2021 23:52

@feellikeanalien - the lady with the friend whose husband invited himself along came back at some point. I can't remember the details exactly but do remember that her and the other friends had worked out that she was being abused/controlled and they were trying to support her to leave him.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/07/2021 23:56

Perhaps I'm wrong, I'll look in advanced search.!

But I thought somebody knew the 'right' version of the words and it made more sense. And I think it wasn't on the original thread. Iirc, part if the punchline was that he was the postmaster so they called him "boss". I don't think it was very good joke, but it made more sense than the OP's version...

Enko · 12/07/2021 23:58

there is 2 i think of I cant recall if the were AIBU or other forums

1 was a lady who posted before Christmas about how to tell her 4 yyear old there would be no Christmas . They had emigrated to Canada and the money were tight.. The thread was very positive and she got lots of suggestions she did with her dd and dh.. I wonder how they are.

2 was a woman who posted about some strange things happening in her house among others a crisp packet found when her dh was allergic to potatoes so they never had crisps. Turned out it was her brother who had been thrown out by his partner and had lived in their shed for a week sneaking into the house during the day. I wonder how he is now.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/07/2021 00:02

This thread was the one I was thinking of. It was a riddle, not a joke.

@DadOnIce

The mysterious bathroom with the noise like a night clicking on and off from the other side of the wall just after the light in the bathroom itself went on -- was that ever solved?
this one.
CrackOnOrGoHome · 13/07/2021 00:03

I wonder how Wardrobes123 and her DH are. I hope they are ok.

Oh yes, that one !
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/07/2021 00:07

But basically, it should go

Question: There is a man call Boswell and for short they call him Boss and he walks into the post office in the morning. What is his name and occupation?

Answer: Andrew Boswell, Postmaster

But it doesn't work well written down. When you say it "and he" sounds like "Andy" (so they call him "Boss Andy") and he's the postmaster because he goes in in the morning, and all the postmen would have been there for hours already sorting out the post.

So on the other thread, the OP and the OP's friends family just mangle it until it it's impossible and isn't funny at all. Confused

PrincessFiorimonde · 13/07/2021 00:07

The Boswell solution is on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/a4156434-This-puzzle-answer-is-ridiculous-right?msgid=104383675#104383675

Andrew Bosswell. Post Master.

It’s a bad joke but made me laugh when I first heard it. Not worth a 20 year wait per the linked [Boswell] thread though! Disclaimer - having read the first few pages of the linked thread I’m now not entirely sure the wording is right, but I think it’s close.

(There is a man called Bosswell. “And” for short. They call him boss. And - HE walks INTO the post office in the morning.) I remember SIL having to explain to me that only the postmaster, the boss, would be entering the building as the others left. I think it’s quite an old joke though because it must be at least 10 or maybe 15 years since SIL told me, and I don’t think the punchline really works since the separation of the Post Office and Royal Mail, and also now that now postmen start later (they used to start very early and have deliveries done before 8am, often to get on to 2nd jobs, so they were starting at night whereas the boss was starting at normal office hours)

PrincessFiorimonde · 13/07/2021 00:09

Sorry, PolkadotsAndMoonbeams - cross-post!

BadLad · 13/07/2021 00:09

A London Underground quiz.

Something like "What are the five underground stations with such and such letters in their names?"

Nobody could think of the fifth station, and the OP never filled us in.

Maddening.

I often wonder about the lady who had inherited ( i think) some woodland, but the neighbours to it had fenced it and claimed it as theirs…

rainbowmash · 13/07/2021 00:16

I need to know if that poster bought her daughter that pink Aga!!! Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 13/07/2021 00:16

@Jacopo

Does anyone remember the mum who was having a terrible time with the family courts, she was trying to restrict her ex’s access to her little boy. One judge in particular was horrible to her. She used to have to meet the ex in a car park to hand her son over. The little boy was frightened of him and the dad used to insist on giving him baths which he hated.
yes the boy would be about 11-13 or so now.
Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 13/07/2021 00:30

The one that sticks in my mind is the lady who fancied her gardener(?) I believe they went on a date and I always wonder what happened!

I posted about this one upthread! This and the ironing board one, I need to know Grin
@SmidgenofaPigeon I got accused of being a troll when I was posting when DH was in hospital. I posted regularly and things changed very rapidly (he went from being in an induced coma with talk of heart transplant to having tea and toast within 12 hours!) and people found it unbelievable. I can understand why. But the truth is that when someone you love is critically ill there's a lot of waiting around and you can't focus on anything. Posting here gave me an outlet for my fears and a source of support. So I do believe some of these "live update" threads are real.

In the end (when DH sadly died) I outed myself to prove I was telling the truth. I found the accusations of being a troll incredibly hurtful.
I remember your thread @peachgreen ❤️

The troll hunters think they are so much smarter than the rest of us - but I wish they would just do as MNHQ ask, and report to them (and shut the fuck up on the threads).

If they are right the thread will get pulled and then everyone will know. Too many genuine posters, in difficult situations, get piled on by the amateur sleuths.

This exact thing happens in my bathroom. There is nothing sinister about it. Just something connected to the electricity, a delayed reaction of some sort.

Maybe something else was going on for the OP of that thread, but it could be a very boring and undramatic explanation.

I often wonder about the woman who moved to a house in a village with her husband and kept finding random Christmas decorations on their walks.

I seem to remember it took a sinister turn when someone kept banging on the doors at night.

It was quite chilling. I never found the thread again.

RosettaPebble · 13/07/2021 01:14

One where a man had a secret 5 year old daughter, with OW that he visited when working in an Eastern European country, I think.
His wife found out but was adamant he couldn’t tell his adult daughter. I think that’s the gist of it. I always hoped it was a troll for the little girls sake but I lost track of the threads.

Rememberallball · 13/07/2021 01:28

There was one poster I remember from a few years ago where the OP was a youngish student nurse, she lived with her mum and sister who had some disabilities and the OP was being pressurised by the mother to work as well as study, run the house and take responsibility for the sister. She posted a few different threads about the job/life at home and the like

CaffeineAndNicotine · 13/07/2021 01:38

The one where she had land and the neighbiu re s put a fence in it?

The safe that couldn't be opened. And the locked door.

Trinityrhino.

The lady who lived with her dh on the family.farm, and bill and sil and pil want3s the business and house or something?
