To want to scream shut the fuck up

Rosebel · 11/07/2021 20:35

Okay I know the football is a massive deal to some, I can't watch it as I find it too stressful.
I'm upstairs consoling my sobbing 1 year old who was asleep but was woken by people opposite who are yelling, cheering, groaning, swearing and singing. Given we're not even 30 minutes ini can see it getting worse. I mean fair enough cheering when they score but it was only once
Feel like screaming shut the fuck up. There are quite a few children who are /were asleep I'd think in our road (children under 3) and it's just so inconsiderable to make so much noise the entire time.
Poor baby is falling asleep and then wakes with a jump as these idiots bellow. They are clearly being over loud as usually baby sleeps through most normal noise.
Know I actually am being unreasonable as it's a one off but fuck me it's annoying.
Sorry feel better for the rant and obviously not going to scream shut the fuck up but am very tempted.

My 3 week old managed to sleep through it

3 weeks in is very early to start the competitive parenting!

Silversun83 · 11/07/2021 21:03

YANBU...

I understand the cheering at the goal etc, etc, but there was almost constant drunken jeering here throughout the whole first half.. There's no way they would have been concentrating on the game.. How can they even call themselves fans?! Literally just an excuse to get drunk... (Disclaimer - prejudiced against drunks generally due to alcoholic parents).

I say that with asleep 3 and 5 year olds who I'm praying stay asleep - both have back bedrooms with really loud fans...

I would try the white noise again, you do have to have it really loud.

CurryLover55 · 11/07/2021 21:04

One of the best things we did for DD when she was a baby is get her used to sleeping with noise. I remember when I worked as a nanny years ago, one of the Mums put a sign on the front door asking people not to ring the bell because the baby was asleep & everyone had to tiptoe around - not necessary! DD sleeps through anything now.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 11/07/2021 21:04

8 o clock kick off was a stupid idea anyway and I don't expect total silence just a little bit of consideration (like watching it inside or being just a little bit quiter) but I knew I'd be told I was unreasonable.

Why, because some people chose to have kids? Hmm

It's only 9pm, no reason why people should sit inside because someone might have a baby.

veganmayo · 11/07/2021 21:04

Yeah kinda unreasonable to expect adults to be thinking about 1 year olds sleeping at this time, sorry. Even at 8pm on a regular Sunday it’s pretty early.

Rosiesmydog · 11/07/2021 21:05

Come to Wales…all blissfully quiet here…but there might be some cheering if Italy scores!!

Dinosaurballoon · 11/07/2021 21:06

Yanbu to be annoyed. Once people have forgotten what it’s like to have young babies/ don’t have them they don’t care about garden noise.

Tonight I think your on a losing battle though sadly

ancientgran · 11/07/2021 21:06

@Anythingelseintheboxpandora

I mean I get that it’s annoying but you sound like you have the resilience of a wet lettuce leaf OP.
That is rude. The OP is stressed, listening to adults shouting and swearing isn't nice and it isn't necessary. Cheer for a goal fair enough but why the shouting and swearing?
EverythingWillFallInLine · 11/07/2021 21:06

If only the organisers of this European wide championship had thought about babies' bedtimes. Hmm

Dreamingofbeergardens · 11/07/2021 21:07

It's the annoying fuckers driving down the road at 2am beeping their horns, up and down for ages Hmm

EmmalineC · 11/07/2021 21:07

It's ONE night, stop being such a killjoy. If your neighbours were shouting and yelling every bloody night, then I'd have some sympathy but honestly, you sound such a drama queen. You can't watch the footie yourself because you find it too stressful? Put the telly on and join in with the shouting.

Wait til the fireworks start when England win.

HancockSid · 11/07/2021 21:07

'no reason why people should sit inside because someone might have a baby' - yes, but there are fairly good reasons why people should not act like drunken oafs.

Well also because apparently they all need a day off tomorrow as they will be tired and hung over.
HillsBesideTheSea · 11/07/2021 21:08

I am going to say that i actually feel for the people on the street with young kids. The noise is horrific. not only next door but the frickin sports club is showing it on the damn field with speakers.

  1. i don't give a shit that it is coming home
  2. really.
  3. The fuckers had better win so the rates of domestic violence can be at the lowest level for when there are big sports events (especially football)

And it is precisely point 3 why i think that this obession with sports is a complete and utter anti social arse.

Maybe they're not drunk Hmm.
EverythingWillFallInLine · 11/07/2021 21:09

Easy commute then 👍

HancockSid · 11/07/2021 21:09

'You can't watch the footie yourself because you find it too stressful? Put the telly on and join in with the shouting' - be utterly mindless like us! And use tabloid phrases such as 'footie' as well!

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 11/07/2021 21:09

My next door neighbours are having a garden party with a big screen showing the match.
DC3 has got a fan on in his back bedroom and is sleeping. Definitely try a fan or could you move him to another bedroom if there’s a quieter side?

bungabungaboo · 11/07/2021 21:09

Have you got a fan, this is great white noise

I feel your pain, little children need sleep 💤

AlternativePerspective · 11/07/2021 21:10

People saying “it’s only 1 night” are being entirely disingenuous.

Because we’ve had these kinds of rowdy parties all the way through the Euro’s, especially when we got past the 1st round. Then people were saying “Well, it’s the Germans/it’s the semi finals/it’s just the one night,” to anyone who A, complained about the noise, and B, complained about their partners shirking their parenting responsibilities to go out on the piss until God-knows-when.

Shouting when the England team scores is one thing and is understandable. But the OP said they’ve been shouting and screaming for the entire duration of the match, and children sleeping or not there really is no need.

It’s possible to have middle ground between celebrating a goal/an England win, and behaving like a complete inconsiderate for as many hours as you want to with no thought for the rest of the neighbourhood.

I was in Italy the night they won the World Cup. Yes they were cheering, yes there were crowds but I didn't hear any shouting and swearing, it was all really friendly and as foreigners we were told everywhere we went for the next few days that we were getting special treatment as they wanted to share the joy.

Needapoodle · 11/07/2021 21:11

P.s if mine wake they're coming down to snooze with us. It's one night. They've kept me awake for nearly 4 years. I'm still alive.

This made me laugh Grin

Greencharge · 11/07/2021 21:11

@PRabbit

YANBU. People are selfish. The older you get the more you realise that nobody gives a shit about anyone except themselves.
^This is so true, hope you get some peace soon.
