...do you keep bread in the fridge?

Sweetpeasaremadeofcheese · 10/07/2021 21:34

Yes....if you live in a tropical climate. Otherwise no.

JustCallMeBubblesDahling · 10/07/2021 21:34

In very hot weather, yes. Otherwise it goes mouldy very quickly even in the bread bin.

MagnoliaBeige · 10/07/2021 21:34

Yes, I assumed that was normal but it appears not! Chocolate and ketchup definitely don’t live in the fridge though!

Lurcherloves · 10/07/2021 21:34

Yes! It lasts much longer

RubixRubicon · 10/07/2021 21:34

Hell no!

ChocolateRiver · 10/07/2021 21:35

No, but my grandad used to. Always thought it was weird. My mum keeps it in the microwave because she’s convinced it stays fresh longer! She rarely uses the microwave btw.

Celticdawn5 · 10/07/2021 21:35

I used to. I think it kept better in the fridge when the weather was hot.
Now it’s kept in the freezer and I just take out slices as I need them. They don’t take too long to defrost and you can toast frozen bread ok.
That’s for the boring sliced bread. The more upmarket bread doesn’t hang around for very long and is kept in a cupboard.

TheValeyard · 10/07/2021 21:36

Yes....if you live in a tropical climate.

We do not.

Chocolate and ketchup definitely don’t live in the fridge though!

Ketchup i have less of a problem with. Chocolate doesn't last long enough in here to actually get warm.

No, never.

TolkiensFallow · 10/07/2021 21:37

No way.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 10/07/2021 21:37

no no a thousand times no

HavelockVetinari · 10/07/2021 21:37

No. My Granny and Grandad did (God rest their souls) but they were born in the 1920s and they didn't have a fridge when my Mum was a child.

Shoppingwithmother · 10/07/2021 21:39

Fuck no!

romdowa · 10/07/2021 21:40

I freeze bread but I only use it for toast in the morning.

Avoidance · 10/07/2021 21:41

No, starch gelatinisation happens faster at lower temperatures so in fact does the complete opposite of “keeping it fresh for longer”.

Also why companies blast freeze product as the faster the product is below -18 degrees the fresher the product will be when defrosted/refreshed. Compared to a longer freezing process (home freezing) which takes much longer to get the core of the product frozen and why it never tastes at good as when bought fresh.

IknowThisIsRidiculous · 10/07/2021 21:41

if you only use it for toasting then yes...

ArnoldJudasRimmer · 10/07/2021 21:42

No!

fuckingsickofcovid · 10/07/2021 21:42

Yes!

TigersandTeddybears · 10/07/2021 21:42

I keep it in the bread bin, although there is usually also a loaf in the freezer for toast

moostermum · 10/07/2021 21:42

No

CherryPlumCrow · 10/07/2021 21:43

What? 😱

AlwaysLatte · 10/07/2021 21:43

Sometimes a second loaf but generally no.

Mayorquimby2 · 10/07/2021 21:43

No, I'm not a psychopath

TheAwfuITruth · 10/07/2021 21:43

No.

It's bad enough that I have to have icy cold ketchup on my chips nowadays, like FUCK will I eat chilled sandwiches

Whydidimarryhim · 10/07/2021 21:43

Not when it’s fresh but after 3 or 4 days I pop it in to stop it going mouldy. I then usually have toast with it.
