...do you keep bread in the fridge?

OP posts:
Hercisback · 10/07/2021 21:29

No.

My inlaws do. They're bonkers.

Scarby9 · 10/07/2021 21:29

No.
Freezer or bread bin.

Monkeytennis97 · 10/07/2021 21:29

No at home. Yes at work. Strange eh?!

dementedpixie · 10/07/2021 21:29

Nope, it goes stale faster plus we have no room in the fridge

BobaFettOnMyBedsideTable · 10/07/2021 21:30

Hell no

oknowimscared · 10/07/2021 21:30

Freezer, yes. Fridge, no.

BritWifeInUSA · 10/07/2021 21:30

I make all our bread from scratch - not with a bread maker. I could never keep it in the fridge. Also, I make it fresh most days, just enough that we will need for a day or two so there’s no need to keep it in the fridge. The bread in our house is never more than 3 days past its bake date.

MimiDaisy11 · 10/07/2021 21:30

No - likewise cakes and tomatoes.

My partner thinks all food should go in the fridge Grin it’s annoying

Bluebells1 · 10/07/2021 21:30

NO

KarmaViolet · 10/07/2021 21:31

@TheValeyard

No, but does it matter if you do?

At this stage in the argument there is literally nothing on earth that matters more, including, but not limited to, paid employment, children's health and personal wellbeing.

Grin

No. I keep a loaf in the freezer though.

saleorbouy · 10/07/2021 21:31

No. Refrigeration removes moisture from stored items so your bread will go hard and stale faster. Keep it in a cool cupboard.

CustardySergeant · 10/07/2021 21:31

No.

Radio4ordie · 10/07/2021 21:31

No

Blossomtoes · 10/07/2021 21:31

Bread does not belong in the fridge.

FudgeFlake · 10/07/2021 21:31

Eggs and bread on counter, either in bread bin or egg rack. Butter in butter dish with cover on. Mayonnaise however in fridge, and ketchup, and anything else that can oxidise once opened. Despite what DP says.... When he starts doing the washing up more than once a week he can start having an opinion more than once a week. Although mine will naturally always continue to be the correct one Grin!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 10/07/2021 21:32

Freezer only here.

Terrazzo · 10/07/2021 21:32

Yes if it’s our backup bread (ie we’ve got a loaf on the go and I accidentally bought 2 more or whatever), and yes in the summer if I find it’s going mouldy too fast. Otherwise no.

Cheeringmeup · 10/07/2021 21:32

No. It's something about the moisture content - bread and cake go hard/stale, while biscuits go soft.

SheABitSpicyToday · 10/07/2021 21:32

Only old people do. I used to be carer and all the old people keep their bread in the fridge.

TheValeyard · 10/07/2021 21:33

This reached a head when DCs and I made lovely chewy cookies and someone decided to put them in the fridge, with the result that, with a good overarm, I could now throw my chewy cookies through a double glazed window.

Not everything goes in the fridge!

OP posts:
yeOldeTrout · 10/07/2021 21:33

yessss... at least in summer. I buy low salt version (Sainsburys), and We sometimes find it goes mouldy sometimes if I don't keep in fridge.

Regular salt levels bread no mould problems.

xprincessxjanetx · 10/07/2021 21:33

No

Spidey66 · 10/07/2021 21:33

No.

RestingPandaFace · 10/07/2021 21:33

No, it stops it going mouldy, but it goes stale quicker.

So you get shit bread for longer.

MikeHat · 10/07/2021 21:33

If I was short of space elsewhere I would but not by choice. Though I buy once a week and freeze until required.
