...do you keep bread in the fridge?

@Tzimi I'm probably not leaving it long enough, or kneading well enough...I'm also totally impatient at checking it's rising so guilty of multiple open/closes.....Blush

Trying again this week with your method, I definitely don't put it somewhere warm enough...! Thanks Smile

@expatinspain

It would be a weird world if people managed to fit a massive fridge in their kitchen but not a bread bin That's my kitchen 😂 The space for the fridge was already there, so we didn't design it that way. I guess we could have a bread bin if we didn't have a microwave, but need one of them, so there's genuinely no space.
That's the other thing, nowadays we have so many extra devices taking up space on our our kitchen worktops. I have a microwave, toaster, cordless phone & base, small TV, food waste caddy, battery charger, cordless screwdriver & charger, laptop, kettle. Where's the space for a bread bin?

I confess I havn't made bread for ages, but now you've inspired me to have another go! Another tip- it's much quicker to use a food processor & you get a great ball of dough at the end! I'll have to find a new warm place in my new house...

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 12/07/2021 19:56

Oh god no.

It spoils the texture completely. Bread is not meant to keep that long. You are meant to eat it all before it goes mouldy. If you can't get through a loaf in 3 days have more children.

I'd get rid of the tv to make space

Nooooo, I sit & watch TV or movies while having my dinner. It also doubles up as my kitchen stereo, as it has a built-in DVD / CD player. That's the last thing I want to get rid of!

@Tzimi would a Nutribullet work!? (I had a slight incident with my Magimix and a wooden spoon...Blush....)

I don't think that would work, because it's the wrong shape (tall & thin, as opposed to short & wide). Oh, so is your Magimix broken? If the plastic bowl is cracked, you may be able to get just a new bowl... Btw, that's just for the initial mix. Later on, you need to knead by hand (or at least I did).
Frazzledd · 12/07/2021 21:59

@Tzimi for the cost of the parts I might have to get a new one (subtly dropping hints for the past month...Grin), I can't say it's an essential right now as I'm whizzing everything in the Nutribullet and my baking skills seem to be ...'ahem'... questionable....

If I could master bread hands on I think I've got a strong case! 🤞

I mean, you could try using the Nutribullet, the worst that can happen is you lose some ingredients...
