...do you keep bread in the fridge?

OP posts:
DarlingCoffee · 11/07/2021 11:27

No. Bread bin.

LovelaceBiggWither · 11/07/2021 11:36

I either store it in the fridge or in the cat. Bastard will do anything to get into a bag of bread.

We're in the subtropics and mould is also an issue with humidity. All condiments are in the fridge as well.

GrumpySausage · 11/07/2021 11:42

@TheValeyard

Yes....if you live in a tropical climate.

We do not.

Chocolate and ketchup definitely don’t live in the fridge though!

Ketchup i have less of a problem with. Chocolate doesn't last long enough in here to actually get warm.

No for bread, what madness is this?!

No for chocolate, who wants to eat cold choc! It takes away from the flavour.

Yes to ketchup. Out of sight (of the kids) , out of mind and to be honest it should be in the bin.
No. It goes stake quicker. www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/house-and-home/household-advice/a673628/how-to-make-bread-last-longer/
I find the opposite, sorry GH 😂 I keep mine in the fridge - I live alone and don't use much bread - a loaf lasts at least a week in the fridge. It's mouldy and stale to within a few days outside the fridge.

snowflake29f · 11/07/2021 17:31

No , my bread lives in the microwave. I never use it anyway so why have a bread bin clutter up my worktop lol .

leiaskye · 11/07/2021 17:47

Yes, always do this.
It lasts longer. I don’t agree with the earlier statement about it going stale quicker. Simply doesn’t happen.

Only the sliced bread though, not the fresh/crusty bread as that gets eaten so fast it doesn’t have time to go off.

Lucyk1 · 11/07/2021 17:48

My gran kept it in the fridge always. Personally, I hate the taste of it once its been in the fridge, but worse still is bread that's been out in the freezer then defrosted.

NoWordForFluffy · 11/07/2021 17:49

Bread goes off more quickly in the fridge. Plus there's no room. So, no.

Montypi · 11/07/2021 17:50

My sister lived in Florida for years and they keep their bread in the fridge. If you’re looking for an argument against it then Floridian’s doing it is quite a good one 😉

DrSK2 · 11/07/2021 17:50

Raising the bar - we keep it sliced in the fridge! Goes to toaster and tastes fresh as new.

bigmumsymcgraw · 11/07/2021 17:51

God no.......

DrSK2 · 11/07/2021 17:52

*freezer!

LittleMissPlant · 11/07/2021 17:52

Absolutely not - goes stale quicker and tastes rank!

TheWitchOfShields · 11/07/2021 18:03

Nope

Mattsmum2 · 11/07/2021 18:16

Used to put it in the freezer. Taken out when I needed it. Now use a bread maker and it’s used up before I know it. Stored in a bread bag.

Queenbee77 · 11/07/2021 18:20

Eeuurrgh! No not in fridge. It goes stale much faster. But it does stop the mould if left in breadbin more than two days.

Planttrees · 11/07/2021 18:21

My kitchen is warm so fresh bread to eat within a day or two will stay out but I always keep a sliced loaf for toasting in the fridge. Bread left out will go mouldy and become inedible but the sliced loaf will go a little stale but that doesn't matter for toasting.

LovelyIssues · 11/07/2021 18:24

No

LittleRed53 · 11/07/2021 18:27

No!

...bread in the fridge, that's hilarious Grin

ellyeth · 11/07/2021 18:28

No, but I didn't know it makes the bread go stale quicker - I thought the opposite. But the moistness in the fridge must make it more damp and "doughy".

Lancrelady80 · 11/07/2021 18:29

Mouldy within two days here unless in the fridge. And Norfolk isn't known for its tropical climate. But I don't like sandwiches made with bread from the fridge - too hard. So toast only, and bread rolls instead of sarnies.

ellyeth · 11/07/2021 18:30

Speaking of bread, I find most of the commercial stuff - even bread supposedly baked on supermarket premises - pretty horrible these days. And even so-called "artisan" bread isn't up to much.

restingbitchface30 · 11/07/2021 18:30

No chance. Neither do eggs yet some weirdos put eggs in the fridge too! Psychopaths I tells ya!

Middersweekly · 11/07/2021 18:31

No!

Mamanyt · 11/07/2021 18:32

Yes. The trick to keeping bread tasting fresh in the fridge is to suck ALL of the air out of the bag, give it several tight twists, and seal it. Since I don't want to put my lips on the bag (uck), I insert a straw into the opening, and use that. Bread will remain fresh and taste good for a full month kept like that. You have to remove all of the air because the nature of the beast is to soak up tastes and smells from the air around it.
