...do you keep bread in the fridge?

OP posts:
Seahorsemama · 11/07/2021 19:50

No

PrivateParty · 11/07/2021 19:54

No.

pinkpirlie · 11/07/2021 20:01

I wouldn't, but my boyfriend puts EVERYTHING in the fridge. He is from Australia and I think things must be different due to the heat. Either that, or he's just totally crazy! Grin

Buffs · 11/07/2021 20:17

Absolutely not. You can freeze it though.

CambsAlways · 11/07/2021 20:30

Nope I keep my bread in bread bin

Ozanj · 11/07/2021 20:31

Fresh bread - no
Processed bread - yes

TheChosenTwo · 11/07/2021 20:32

Bleurgh, the only person I know who does this is my mum. Her bread is always stale and nasty!!

Lovely13 · 11/07/2021 20:36

I keep it in the freezer! But tend only to do toast, bread-wise.

Tigger1895 · 11/07/2021 20:37

Nope. Wet bread doesn’t make a nice sandwich.

mathanxiety · 11/07/2021 20:50

Wet?

How?

puddleduckmummy · 11/07/2021 20:55

WTF? No! Why?

Tal45 · 11/07/2021 20:59

If it's hot we keep it in the fridge, it goes mouldy quick else because it's in plastic and hot. In the winter it just goes out in the utility room where it's cool.

Helgahellcat · 11/07/2021 21:21

No

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/07/2021 21:24

My eyes started bleeding reading this

SweetBabyJebus · 11/07/2021 21:28

This reached a head when DCs and I made lovely chewy cookies and someone decided to put them in the fridge, with the result that, with a good overarm, I could now throw my chewy cookies through a double glazed window.

Interestingly enough @TheValeyard, and in a lovely full circle moment...
Put a slice of bread in the tin with the freshly made cookies and they stay beautifully chewy, and won't dry out! Works a treat.

MidsummerMimi · 11/07/2021 21:29

Yes. Our kitchen is very hot because of Aga and big conservatory which adjoins the kitchen.Bananas ripen overnight and cacti growing taller than us.
Bread would turn into penicillin, if we left it at room temperature.
The bread in question is small, sliced loaves with a very short shelf life.
Big, rustic freshly baked and warm whole loaves get used straight away.
So depends on the type of bread and storage conditions in kitchen.

Dillydollydingdong · 11/07/2021 21:31

Yes because if we leave it out, it grows a green mould. It lasts much longer in the fridge.

WildfirePonie · 11/07/2021 21:37

Yes

Corcory · 11/07/2021 21:44

Goodness, never heard of bread going mouldy before use so much. I'm the retired owner of a bakery. Never ever put bread in the fridge. Artisan bread needs to be eaten within a day or two and will dry out if put in the fridge and processed bread will taste stale. Put it in the bread bin, will last up to a week which is fine for most people. If you don't get through it that quickly freeze half of it. Sorted.

cordeliavorkosigan · 11/07/2021 21:44

Time for an experiment, OP. Buy two loaves with the same date on them. One in the fridge, one not. Don't eat more than half of either. Make sure they are labelled so they don't get swapped. See which lasts longer, and which is more enjoyable. Done.

kennycat · 11/07/2021 22:00

Not generally but I do pop it in there if it starts to smell like it’s about to turn. This often happens in the summer when the cupboard it usually lives in gets a bit warm.

Lilly24 · 11/07/2021 22:01

No 🤣 We don't put eggs or most open sauces in their either 🤷‍♀️ It's hard enough to get everything to fit in the fridge and freezer as it is 🙈🤣

Lilly24 · 11/07/2021 22:02

There*

snowone · 11/07/2021 22:09
