...do you keep bread in the fridge?

OP posts:
NiceGerbil · 11/07/2021 03:41

No but I did freeze it and toast it when I lived alone

Cold bread is horrible

GeorgiaGirl52 · 11/07/2021 04:17

yes in our area it gets moldy if left out.

annie335 · 11/07/2021 05:09

Sometimes if it's particularly warm I do to keep it from going mouldy.

PrettyLittleFlies · 11/07/2021 05:41

@SingingInTheShithouse

I freeze bread but I only use it for toast in the morning.

I have so many questions Confused

What are your questions
GiantHaystacks2021 · 11/07/2021 06:18

No because it dries it out.

Auntienumber8 · 11/07/2021 06:45

In hot weather, so as I’m in England hardly ever.

KatherineJaneway · 11/07/2021 06:59

No, it lives in the bread bin.

QuestionEverythingOrBeASheep · 11/07/2021 07:10

No! Why on earth would you.
However I do freeze bread often. Watching a documentary, studies concluded pre frozen bread somehow has less effect on your blood sugar. That has to be good right.

QuitMoaning · 11/07/2021 07:37

If it lasted longer in the fridge then supermarkets would keep it in a fridge as they would be keen to prolong shelf life of their products. Same with eggs.

Bread in fridge is wrong.

HomersMakeupGun · 11/07/2021 07:42

No, the bread bin.

MrsCremuel · 11/07/2021 07:51

No but…we buy fresh bread and freeze and defrost as needed so it keeps that just out of the bakery freshness. We also wouldn’t get through a full load before it went mouldy.

If I’m going to eat bread it’s going to be delicious.

FlowerFlirtyFairFlax · 11/07/2021 08:02

Always keep bread in the fridge, it doesn’t go stale, hard or damp. It lasts much longer and doesn’t go mouldy..
Big fridge.

FlowerFlirtyFairFlax · 11/07/2021 08:05

I always rinse onions with cold water, as soon as I peel them, rinse the board and knife I’ve used, and therefore never cry, because of them. And then start chopping, slicing etc
I’m magic 😇

Emmylou1985 · 11/07/2021 08:09

Absolutely not. Bread from the fridge tastes off.

DinosaurDiana · 11/07/2021 08:11

No. Never.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/07/2021 08:30

Always did when we lived in a very hot climate with no AC in the kitchen. Everything perishable had to be kept in the fridge, inc. e.g. potatoes and onions, or it wouldn’t last 5 minutes.

Oh, and flour was kept in the freezer, to kill the inevitable weevils and their tiny larvae - I would just sieve the teeny corpses out.

Here bread goes in the bread bin, though.

Coffeemakesmehappy · 11/07/2021 08:38

@quizqueen

No. but I always keep bread in the freezer and then either thaw slices as I need them or toast from frozen. I live alone so a loaf lasts me a week or more.
I do exactly the same. Also (if available) I buy price reduced bread on its last day, since it’s going straight in the freezer. Saves money, and have never had a problem with slices defrosted and used the same day.
AlpineBell · 11/07/2021 09:20

In the freezer

redandwhite1 · 11/07/2021 09:24

Haha yes but only because we don't have it much and it would 100% go mouldy if it wasn't

DrinkingWishingSmokingHoping · 11/07/2021 09:31

@Mrsmadevans

Bread lasts six times longer OUT of the fridge in a cool, dark and dry place
It really doesn’t - not the sourdough we eat, anyway. It’ll develop mould within a few days out of the fridge, but keeps at least a week in the fridge.
Justcallmebebes · 11/07/2021 09:49

Yes. Always 😂

Jux · 11/07/2021 10:26

DH used to, but when we moved (after 8 years!) there is a great baker down the road so I got a breadbin and found my old bread knife, et voila! DH stopped insisting on buying that plastic shit. Even if we get sliced loaf - why? for old times' sake?! - if goes in the bin not the fridge.

hartwood · 11/07/2021 11:09

Yes! I'd rather have stale bread than mouldy bread. I never have to throw any away when it's kept in the fridge.

annacondom · 11/07/2021 11:17

No. It gets damp. Breadbin, which is airtight. Or freezer..

Brainwave89 · 11/07/2021 11:23

Tend to keep a loaf in the freezer, then buy or make fresh bread and use the freezer loaf if we run out. Fresh bread is stored in a bread bin. Lots of my Indian relatives keep bread in the freezer. I am not sure it does any harm.
