I would like to see the population fall to s sustainable level.
Lovely simple rhetoric. What does it mean in real terms? Particularly given asylum and immigration are not synonymous.
What do you mean by sustainable? It’s a Tory and UKIP fallacy that she is sorting immigration. Brexit has made it worse, far worse as many fewer people are moving to the EU nations. Unfortunately these tend to be retirees most often who will pretty soon place increased demand on a health service no longer staffed by those immigrants.
A very few tragic people in inflatable boats makes good Daily Mail and Farage scaremongering pictures, but they are not making much difference to numbers.
The latest numbers show net migration has risen to its highest level since March 2016, when the figure was an estimated 326,000. In the 12-month period to March 2020 around 715,000 people moved to the UK and around 403,000 people left the country.
So no EU nationals stealing our jobs? Good thing there are queues of British people waiting to pick farm produce and staff our hospitals and care homes then. No rotting veg unable to be picked or transported. No nursing shortages. No empty supermarket shelves.
Do explain what stronger measures you’d take? Perhaps do away or reduce benefits to a few vouchers for out of date food to make people work in undesirable jobs? Curious how this would work?
