There should be no England fans at final IMO

I cannot believe there is not more disgust at the actions of one (or more) English fan(s).

Aside from trying to cheat way to an England victory by distracting the goalkeeper during a penalty, lasers are phenomenally dangerous to eyes. The goalkeeper could have retinal damage.

I think a “lesser” nation would have been kicked out, but England won’t. But in my view the fans should be banned - there has to be consequences for criminal actions. Otherwise it will happen again.

Suspect I’ll be in the minority but it’s frankly embarrassing we have fans who do this.

@Ratalie

Thank you for sharing these articles which demonstrate that by taking no strong action against the teams whose fans use laser pointers, the use of laser pointers has continued.

You’ve just made my point for me. Cheers!

It really doesn’t. Your argument is all over the place, and comes from some weird anti-English bitterness.

LaserPointer · 09/07/2021 00:05

@ClareBlue

You’re not getting the point. Every country in the world has poor fans. Including mine. I am not trying to say English are worst. I am trying to say - and Ratalie has kindly provided the evidence - that if strong action is not taken against the use of these weapons then their use will continue.

ClareBlue · 09/07/2021 00:05

So suddenly when it is alledged to be an English fan a new severe punishment is to be introduced. Why?
What Country are you from?

Ratalie · 09/07/2021 00:05

Funny that this has been happening worldwide for years but you think it's the England team that should be randomly made an example of.

ClareBlue · 09/07/2021 00:07

I'm getting the point. You think English fans should be treated differently from every other Country.

DismantledKing · 09/07/2021 00:08

I don’t think we’re going to get an answer; too cowardly.

LOL - my argument is almost as focused as a laser pointer itself.

TLDR:
Weapons bad.
Discourage use.
Meaningful sanctions.

I realise the English desperation to win. I really do - aside from the fan behaviour I was backing them as it must be so humiliating to never have won it.

But I cannot believe the lack
Of condemnation of a physical attack on the goalkeeper.

There would have been riots of it had been the other way round

Nope. We can see your bitterness in this post.
ClareBlue · 09/07/2021 00:11

You said that you would be ashamed if fans of your Country behaved the same but are now saying they do/have.
You are missing the point that we are ashamed of these individuals, but you can not penalise thousands of people for the action of an individual. You can, and should, punish the individual.

ClareBlue · 09/07/2021 00:13

Why is it humiliating for England not to have won it. How many teams have? Are all the other Countries humiliated? It's not humiliating. Disappointing, frustrating maybe. Not humiliating.

LaserPointer · 09/07/2021 00:17

But it is humiliating for England never to have won it. Why is pointing out the obvious a sign of bitterness? I hope they win it - it will be so good for the nation after all the covid crap.

England invented football and have never won the Euros - let’s hope that changes Sunday.

But I still think there needs to be a proper deterrent. Just as I think that any team whose fans chant racist slogans should be thrown out of a competition. Appalling behaviour will only stop when there are real consequences- why is that so hard to understand?

OP posts:
DismantledKing · 09/07/2021 00:21

I think that you’ve been called out plenty for your bitterness. We can all see it, it’s a pity that you lack to self-awareness to do so.

PyongyangKipperbang · 09/07/2021 00:27

Where is the proof it was an England fan?

Because until it can be proved that it was in fact an England fan and not a Dane/Italian/German/Croatian/Any other country-ian in an England shirt, no assumptions should be made.

Teddy1970 · 09/07/2021 00:27

England have been fined OP and hopefully they'll catch the dickhead and he or she will be dealt with, what more do you want? Blood? Everyone agrees the person who did it is a twat of the highest order, but don't make out this is an exclusively English thing when it's a real problem in football the world over, but I'm sure you're going to come back and tell us that your country is purer than an angel's fart in this department though....

icecreamgirl94 · 09/07/2021 00:29

If the roles were reversed then honestly yeah, I think we’d accept that we were out. The lazer thing didn’t stop him saving Harry Kane’s penalty, he had saved it then Harry dodged round him and scored, totally legit.
This is our first time in the final for over 50 years and after such a shit couple of years people deserve some enjoyment, so stop over analysing and let people have some fun. Of course the fans shouldn’t be banned, not every England supporter is a scummy hooligan, in fact that’s a tiny minority.

Not not “all” see it - the voting would suggest that I am not alone in my views.

And many have indeed called me bitter, pathetic, cowardly etc - but I’m just saying violent actions (physical or verbal) will not stop until the idiots - irrespective of their nationality - realise their violence has consequences.

Again, I’m struggling to understand the problem you’re having with this?

I'm dipping in and out since the comparison to the Falklands bit but....for the English/British press racism has obviously been as critised as anything against the football fans ,right?no. It's not just 'the crowd' but their own press/government/people seem to hate them until there's an excuse for a piss up and madness. OBVIOUSLY NOT ALL FANS BUT IT'S HOW IT'S SEEN TO EVERYONE OUTSIDE

Why is it anymore embarrassing than Scotland never winning? Or Wales?

And since when has where something was invented meant you must win? Do Greece always do the best in The Olympics?

Is that embarrassing for them?

Ratalie · 09/07/2021 00:54

RuggerHug I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say but, if it's that the English press and much of the fanbase are often hyper critical of the team (and particularly it's black players), only to jump on board the bandwagon as soon as they're doing well - I completely agree.

Who said there won't be strong action against the individual who did this?

There's been action against the England team. There's been a fine.

Now they need to identify the person who did it and they will take action against them.

So what's your point?

Mulhollandmagoo · 09/07/2021 01:05

Based on this, I'd say the OP is English and when she realised the thread wasn't going her way, she slotted in a little porkie Wink

Bellagio40 · 09/07/2021 01:12

OP is definitely not English
