To be enjoying the Euros, to enjoy international football, and to be happy that England are in the final?

According to other threads on MN I should be hanging my boring head in shame and hating the football.

But, I love it! I love an international football tournament, and I'm loving this one! I proudly support our national team, I think they've shown great character, skill and hard work, and - OMG - I also like the Three Lions song!

I feel bad for other teams who have worked hard and lost, but them's the breaks. It doesn't stop me being excited for the final!!

I'm hugely enjoying it because we are doing everything right. I used to watch in dismay and utter frustration eg they Beckham years. They just were not good enough. Leaden potato legs.

This team is excellent, good, great and I couldn't ask for more.

I've really enjoyed the Euros too. I'm Irish, in Ireland and in some ways it's good not having the Irish team there as the coverage has been very unbiased. Rte have shown every game and the commentary and punditry has been excellent. I'm torn by who to support tonight. I have no connection to Italy and I don't mind seeing England doing well but they are definitely not one of the 2 best teams in the tournament. They had a fairly easy run and don't play entertaining football. However I will be happy to see England win if that happens. Good luck.
Lol my Dad is Irish but has lived in England since he was elevan, I still remember him dancing around the lounge when Ireland got through to the quarter finals, was it 1990?

I wonder if the same posters who are being utter miseries about this are the same ones who dish out one present at Xmas, after dinner at 7pm "precisely". And make their dc immediately sit down and write thousands of thank you notes for it then flay themselves for being spoilt when some of dc don't get a gift.

And the same posters who never agree to other posters usually with a terminal illness allow their dc one hour off school to visit somewhere fun..

I think they probably could have been good enough, but they were so arrogant it felt like they just didn't care and cared more about being celebrities, and then there was the whole Wag culture

And compete to be the most miserly about who could spend the least on Xmas presents for their children 😂

I really hated the WAG culture and I'm glad it's not a big thing with this current team.

Me too. I love the fact that with this generation, its about the team and not the big celebrity culture of previous England teams.

The fact some of the wives were better known than some of the players was a huge distraction.
I personally don't know any of the current teams other halves - and that's a good thing

PhilSwagielka · 11/07/2021 14:40

I know of a couple, but in Pickford's case it's because I follow him on Instagram. Most of them, I couldn't tell you. I always found it a bit sad how many girls aspired to be WAGs. It's not a career, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be rich, and a lot of footballers - including the one I'm named after - cheat on their wives and girlfriends. Kyle Walker and John Stones both have. George Best was notorious for it, and an abuser as well. I'm sure plenty of footballers are faithful, but there have been an awful lot of stories about them playing away from home, so to speak - The Secret Footballer mentioned one woman who came home to find her footballer husband shagging a prostitute, and she just carried on like nothing was wrong. And there was this depressing article about all these young women getting fillers and keeping their houses immaculate because they're scared their partners will cheat.

JacquelineCarlyle · 11/07/2021 16:09

The only one I know is Harry Kane's wife and that's because of the photo of her and Harry as kids with David Beckham. Certainly no celebrity culture around it, which is great!

I thought it was in 1994 (when England didn't even qualify). Shows how your mind can play tricks on you.

And compete to be the most miserly about who could spend the least on Xmas presents for their children.

And who want us all to know that they put up the tree at one minute to midnight on Christmas Eve - not a moment before - and take it down first thing in the morning on Boxing Day.

And who were quite happy about the restrictions last Christmas because they 'hate all the pressure to be sociable'.

JudgeJ · 11/07/2021 16:33

@SamW98

OP - You need to read the latest pearl clutches wanting England thrown out the tournement and the fans all banned for life

There really are people in this country who actually;ly hate any success and would be much happier if we lived our entire lives in perpetual misery

Your last sentence totally describes a large number of MN posters on whatever subject, except you omitted English, they hate any English success.

I'm currently trying to convince by Scottish granddaughter who's staying that she should be singing It's going home', not It's coming home! She's not amused.

@ButYouJustPointedToAIIOfMe

I think the laser incident is a real bloody shame. And the booing. Otherwise as you were.
Sadly they're common events, the laser pen incidents have happened for years in eastern European matches and UEFA failed to act.
