For my toddler Dd? Nothing fancy, just something lovely from baby Zara, for example.
I also sort of buy her new outfits to match places/the colours where we are going, to look aesthetically pleasing in Instagram photos etc..I’m weird, aren’t I 😬

@Daisychaincarrot

Honestly parenting did so hard and shit at times, if this brings you joy and you can afford it, go for it
But only if you anonymize yourself and brag about it on social media, or it doesn't count.

Oh wait...

Yeah you're good OP

Summertimelostitsshine · 05/07/2021 15:18

Oh yes, and first (and only) child..that obvious?! 🤣

[Asks wearily] OP, why did you actually post this thread?

PatchyTwat · 05/07/2021 15:20

Do you text ahead to check the colour scheme…

In all seriousness a school mom I know is like this and her kids are so worried about getting dirty/ripped they aren’t really enjoying just being kids. I had one over for a sleepover and by the end she was dressed in DDs old clothes, coated in dust and animal hair and had gone quite feral, I thought her mum was going to cry handing her back.

She’d had fun though Grin

Summertimelostitsshine · 05/07/2021 15:20

@TheGenealogist Pipe down.

She doesn’t wear them once..she wears the same clothes over and over

@Summertimelostitsshine

Ok 🙈so..she doesn’t go on play dates very often, especially the last year..so once or twice per month. The outfits aren’t worn only once, they’re worn lots. Never never awful things like leather jackets and frilly dresses, comfortable and cute really. I don’t mind if they get dirty, well, I don’t love it, but have come to accept that clothes get wrecked quickly! All her clothes get messy fairly quickly and look old, so when I have a play date, I get emerging new. I also buy or have sending hand from friends and pass my clothes on to charities when too small. I might for example put her in a long, white dress if we’re going to old type buildings, so we can get some stunning photos. I don’t always do this, but it’s sort of there at the back of my mind, on occasion. I think lots more do this than they’ll admit. My girl is general pretty feral in bare feet and shorts and t-shirts at home
Jeez, just let the kid be a kid instead of a prop for fucking instagram!

Can you tell us why you're asking the internet if it's ok to spend your own money?

How do you decide to take a shit?

Do you make your own decision or send out public consultation forms to the neighbours in your street?

Summertimelostitsshine · 05/07/2021 15:21

@PatchyTwat Def don’t care if Dd is dirty. She spends most of her time in the woods, climbing trees, at the beach and in the ocean

Conspicuous consumption isn't a good look. Even if you are rich enough to do this.

Dress her in what she is happy to be in and can play without hindrance.

PhillipPhillop · 05/07/2021 15:22

So when you say play dates are you actually matching the outfits to your friend's kitchen or living room? How do you know they haven't changed the decor?

Summertimelostitsshine · 05/07/2021 15:23

@Elune Definitely not treated like a doll, hate hate hate that. I just love to get her bits, when I can. I used to love fashion for me, but look a mess these days and just enjoy buying bits 🤷🏻‍♀️

To buy a new outfit for every play date?
Summertimelostitsshine · 05/07/2021 15:24

@PhillipPhillop 🤣God, no, none of that. I mean for play dates, I just get something that looks fresh and new, instead of all her clothes which tend to look messy and old fairly quickly.

This can't be real?

IncyWincy21 · 05/07/2021 15:24

Ffs

Summertimelostitsshine · 05/07/2021 15:25

@chantico It’s not very often, she’s very happy, she’s comfortable and doesn’t notice or give a crap about what she’s wearing, I just like getting clothes for her, instead of me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Snowbeau · 05/07/2021 15:26

You need to learn to wash them better if they look old quickly!

I worry about the impact this will have on her as she grows up, if image is everything.

butterpuffed · 05/07/2021 15:26

Stunning photos are more important than enjoying where you're going to ? Confused

AliceW89 · 05/07/2021 15:27

Ok, so what you actually mean as per your update is, ‘is it unreasonable to replace my daughters worn out clothes with something new in time for a play date? She’ll wear these clothes lots in future’

The answer to that is obviously no, of course it’s not unreasonable. I’m not sure why you didn’t post it like this in the first place, unless the responses to your initial post weren’t to your liking.

The insta bit however, is weird. Sorry.

Seeline · 05/07/2021 15:27

No toddler should be in a long white dress FFS!
Shove her in a t shirt and leggings and let her play.

WorraLiberty · 05/07/2021 15:27

I just like getting clothes for her, instead of me

Surely though if you bought more clothes for yourself, you'd look less of a mess?

That way you could live for yourself instead of through your DD?

Give it a shot, it's worth a try.

PussGirl · 05/07/2021 15:27

There was a girl in DS's nursery that always wore beautifully clean white socks & she'd run about & get filthy like all the rest.

My friend asked her mum which washing powder she used to get them that clean...

Brand new socks every day Shock

Summertimelostitsshine · 05/07/2021 15:27

@WorraLiberty Okay 👍

I’m asking as I want to see how many will admit doing similar..there’s definitely lots out there. I’ve seen friends putting them in their best for play dates or freaking out when the shorts get dirty for example, because they’re new. I don’t freak out, I accept she’s a kid and will get messy and needs and loves to her messy. Hence, why I have to buy new stuff as all her other bits look worn, pretty quickly!

She's a toddler now but won't be for long. Do you want her to think one of the most important things about her is how she looks?
