Will you continue to wear a mask when they’re no longer compulsory?

I can’t really decide how I feel about it- as a pregnant woman with a tendency to get a bit sweaty in the face on warm days, I would like not to have to wear one whenever I’m inside a building that isn’t my own home. And I’m double jabbed so not at much risk. But then you’ve got people from SAGE and the BMA saying we should keep wearing them, and I’d imagine they know a bit better than Sajid Javid whose background is in finance.

What do you think?

YABU- I’ll continue to wear a mask
YANBU - I won’t be wearing a mask anymore.

Can’t wait and am not 100% convinced masks help much anyway.

Localocal · 06/07/2021 20:15

I will, if only to make other people feel more comfortable. Many people are very anxious, justifiably, and I really feel for them.

Also the more the virus circulates the more mutations will occur. And the more mutations occur the sooner we will get a mutation that makes it vaccine resistant. Even if no one is getting too sick from this variant we have to stop it spreading to prevent having to start the vaccination programme all over again, and losing people while we do,

GettingItOutThere · 06/07/2021 20:17

yes
100%

especially in crowded places

outside - no!

Alleycat02 · 06/07/2021 20:18

Haaaaaaaaa no. No I will not.

Distiller91 · 06/07/2021 20:18

Not at all

Skysblue · 06/07/2021 20:22

I wore a mask in ships for months before the government admitted that they’re effective, and will continue wearing a mask in shops until the pandemic is over. The poor staff have no choice about being there and if all shoppers wear masks it greatly reduces the risk to the staff.

I won’t wear one out and about on streets in general.

I would like to wear one to school pickuos and dropoffs but an already getting ‘looks’ from the too cool for masks mums so I dunnonif I’ll crumble to peer pressure there.

What I do know is that I will never, never, rely on guidance from Boris Johnson or his team.

Fatredwitch · 06/07/2021 20:26

I shall wear one. It isn't a huge sacrifice to make and if it protects other people - and me to some degree, I hope - it's worth it. People in other countries, such as Japan, have been wearing them for years and haven't made a fuss about it. I don't know why it's so difficult for people here to do such a small thing that could help to keep down the infection rate.

WhoneedsDogs · 06/07/2021 20:40

I will continue to protect myself and my loved ones, vulnerable people I work for, In supermarkets, when people get too in my face, disrespect my personal space, enclosed spaces. Once I have my second jab…. Or it becomes like an annual flu jab….. I probably wont.

Until we know more or people I have known stop dying because of it……

Barmychick · 06/07/2021 20:40

@rustyfig I'm immunosuppressed so shall continue wearing masks as a courtesy to those who are too. I hope in crowded areas others will too. This is a HUGE experiment 💗

DinosaurDiana · 06/07/2021 20:41

I will be wearing my mask. I get very close to people at work, that’s why,

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/07/2021 21:13

I still don't understand the 50% who couldn't give two "hoots" about anyone else's health.

Again. I think this is unfair. Plus if you look at the thread you will see it's mainly " in crowded places, yeah" kind of thing @Mba1974
As I said, for lots of people it's significant symbol of all of this ending. So i also get why they are very keen. I think the "don't you care about others" has been used as a whip so much about anything from mask to going shopping, it's just lost a meaning now.

pcl09 · 06/07/2021 21:16

Do you mean the masks that they told us at the start offered no protection for the wearer or others whatsoever unless they were N95? Or the masks that are sold everywhere but are covered in “non medical mask” branding? Errrr no. No I won’t.

They told us that because they were unable to procure sufficient PPE for medical staff and didn’t want the public buying up what was available.

If you’re so sure that masks are ineffective, you presumably won’t mind if your surgeons go commando should you ever need major surgery?

For some people you'd think a contagious infection was a brand new thing.

Ask yourselves why no one worried before about passing on colds or flu virus or ensured other people should "stay away" and socially distance

You're eating into the fear, a fear that's never been perpetuated before about contagious viruses that are just as bad or worse. Why is that? Wake up.

I don’t bloody want it, you get a cold or flu it’s over in a week or so this can knock people on their arses for months I had flu once I thought i was dying I’ve never been so ill in my life and never want to feel like that again

... And handwashing. There is a reason i carried strong handgel well before pandemic🤢

Exactly this in my opinion. I'm hoping one good thing to come out of this pandemic is that we will be more mindful when ill with even common colds / flu. We have such a working culture here where in previous years everyone loves to go into work patting themselves on the back for never having a sick day whilst coughing and spluttering over everyone.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/07/2021 21:36

@Dontevenstart

Selfish fuckwads on here “I’m never wearing a mask again!” Fuck off and get covid then you selfish prick.
FGS, is this hysteria still going on?

Ridiculous

I do agree on this. Hopefully the culture will change. I didn't need COVIS to hate colleagues coming in and coughing all over me

Hmm

Some have already had it. Some really don't care if they get Covid. Also re-read Talk Guidelines.

Or maybe it's because people can't afford to take sick days. I can't afford to live on sick pay so if I've just got a cold then I'm coming into work. If you want people to stay home and aren't already doing so then campaign for better sick pay.
