Will you continue to wear a mask when they’re no longer compulsory?

I can’t really decide how I feel about it- as a pregnant woman with a tendency to get a bit sweaty in the face on warm days, I would like not to have to wear one whenever I’m inside a building that isn’t my own home. And I’m double jabbed so not at much risk. But then you’ve got people from SAGE and the BMA saying we should keep wearing them, and I’d imagine they know a bit better than Sajid Javid whose background is in finance.

What do you think?

YABU- I’ll continue to wear a mask
YANBU - I won’t be wearing a mask anymore.

@Bluesheep8

I am not worried that I will die of covid. I am vaccinated and not at high risk.

But what about the people you pass it on to who are higher risk?

Like I said, if I am knowingly spending time around a vulnerable person I will wear one if they want.

I am happy with my decision to ditch the masks as soon as I can.

TooMuchPCInTheWorld · 06/07/2021 18:59

Definitely wearing a mask inside, outside if in a crowded area...this is still a pandemic, no one knows what's coming...no one.

@Mba1974

I’m honestly not sure opening everything up is a great idea right now, but as most additional changes are choices (nightclubs/bars/pubs/stadiums etc) and there’s no doubt people are suffering economically happy to see how it goes and make personal choices but I do not get the dropping of hands face space, which are minor inconveniences and it seems no credible Dr or Scientist believes it’s right either.. So we have a choice and I’m truly shocked at the total lack of consideration for others half the population appear to have.. in places where people have to go/be public transport, shops, hospitals, etc why on earth would you not make the choice to do what’s better for society vs your own personal minor inconvenience!? To put it in a context MN’s might grasp.. You’re a parent, who can’t swim, you’re walking past a river.. it’s deep but not dangerous, unless you can’t swim. Your toddler slips your hand and falls in.. if you go in you both drown.. and every single other person there, who can swim, maybe has taken life saving training, says oh no, sorry, far too inconvenient to get wet now, my glasses might fall off, I’ll be all damp and uncomfortable, and they all walk on past whilst your toddler drowns.. That ok for you? Apparently yes, and apparently exactly what you would do too. Millions of people are immunosuppressed, don’t get the same level of protection from vaccines, haven’t had their full vaccines yet, are children who won’t be vaccinated in time and are at risk of debilitating long Covid (approx 8%); and you won’t wear a mask for 20 minutes whilst you shop because “it’s inconvenient or gives you a rash or steams your glasses up.. Good god, just take a good long look in the mirror, and hope you or a loved one never need help from a stranger in an emergency..
That's such a ridiculous comparison. Sorry
Chris08 · 06/07/2021 19:09

Haven’t worn one for weeks & never want to have to wear one again.

caspersmagicaljourney · 06/07/2021 19:10

Definitely in the workplace (secondary school) and supermarkets.
I may be more relaxed elsewhere.
Certainly not whilst outside.

Jem57 · 06/07/2021 19:10

Just NO

MrsVeryTired · 06/07/2021 19:14

I will continue to wear one indoors in public.

There are vulnerable people who can't have the vaccine, there are children who are high risk who haven't been vaccinated yet.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest wearing one, apart from steamed up glasses but its no big deal IMO.

gibbertyofah · 06/07/2021 19:14

I haven't voted but I'll probably wear in supermarkets but no where else.

Hertsgirl10 · 06/07/2021 19:15

Stopped wearing them when I saw the Queen & all the world leaders frolicking around in Cornwall together. Then Mr Hancock’s crap, then seeing so many other videos of people doing similar, when I say people I mean other governments and people in charge.
I can’t actually believe that anyone would still be wearing them or taking any notice of this shit anymore.

Borisisafecklesstoad · 06/07/2021 19:23

Genuinely curious if those who won't wear one have an employer who pays full sick pay?
A fairly overidingly good reason i will continue to wear one and would prefer that others did is i cannot afford to be offsick or long term sick. I think the figure for this is 81% of workers.

Mba1974 · 06/07/2021 19:30

"That's such a ridiculous comparison. Sorry"

No need to apologise but why? If I willingly do something that could result in someone else's death, or long term life limiting illness, or choose not to do something that could save a life, how is it different?

Simplistic comparison maybe, that seems needed, but not really any different...

Because the correct scenario would be that Some people said they can't swim, some said they can't be arsed, but majority jumped into that water and tried to help for a very long time while losing homes, incomes, mh, grades, family members and couldn't even go to funerals (some still can't). And when they said they are ready to give up, because they can't keep in that water longer, they are called selfish and nlt caring.
SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/07/2021 19:37

The "i can get rid of mask" is really quite symbolic for lots of people in how the life might go back to normal. It's not JUST about masks. It's about it being the step towards normal lives

Rainbowsew · 06/07/2021 19:39

@Theforest

Will it still be expected at GPs and hospitals?
I think it will still be the case in hospitals.
Nana62 · 06/07/2021 19:40

I have Depression, Anxiety, Panic attacks and have Asthma, I wear a mask. so I will still wear mine. I live in Weymouth in Dorset so am around "Visitors" all the time so yes I will wear mine until they go home.

TSSDNCOP · 06/07/2021 19:40

Inside such as transport, cinema or shops yes

Outside anywhere or inside with very few people eg empty corridor no

Johnbowlby · 06/07/2021 19:40

Yes I will, because I have concern for others who are more vulnerable than myself

Birchtree1 · 06/07/2021 19:41

I work in a job where I can’t social distance.
I wear a mask 10 hours a day and it is okay. Not great….but I can live with it. I hope my clients will continue to wear a mask when they see me otherwise I will not be happy to be locked in a 3 x 3 meter room with random people. Don’t really get what the problem with masks is to be honest!

ecosln · 06/07/2021 19:44

Squashed on the northern line commute or commuter train into Wloo Liverpool street etc or a packed rainy day bus from Waterloo to the city or any other rush hour packed commute yes I will. Same journey weekend quiet maybe not.

DinosApple · 06/07/2021 19:45

Shops, yes.

Jellykat · 06/07/2021 19:45

Absolutely yes.. I work in retail and in the early days i wore a visor, any idea how much spit splatters a visor when you're talking / laughing etc? i do.. So yes i'll continue with my mask!

ufucoffee · 06/07/2021 19:50

Unless I'm forced to, flying for instance, no I will never wear one again.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/07/2021 19:52

Nope. Hate the things, I miss seeing people's faces

I will continue to wear one in the supermarket and at work (teacher in secondary school). I'm double jabbed but still know there's a risk that I could pass it to those who are vulnerable and those who are unable to have the vaccine.
Mba1974 · 06/07/2021 20:10

@SchrodingersImmigrant

I understand all that which is why, whilst not necessarily agreeing with full opening, I understand entirely why it's important. But masks while you shop or travel or are in confined spaces have literally nothing to do with any of those things you mentioned... all those things will be entirely mitigated by opening up, with masks in place in a small number of scenarios.. Most of us have been through most of them.. I still don't understand the 50% who couldn't give two "hoots" about anyone else's health.

Ironically not wearing masks means you will inevitably subject many many people to exactly what you've just said is intolerable.. and highly likely another full lockdown and all that you've mentioned happening all over again to the entire population, all because a tiny piece of cloth has been whipped up by the press and Facebook experts as some kind of freedom flag to be burned.

It's a small minor inconvenience that has zero negative affect of any consequence on 99% of the population.. and is to me the biggest example of cutting ones nose off to spite ones face in history.
