Will you continue to wear a mask when they’re no longer compulsory?

I can’t really decide how I feel about it- as a pregnant woman with a tendency to get a bit sweaty in the face on warm days, I would like not to have to wear one whenever I’m inside a building that isn’t my own home. And I’m double jabbed so not at much risk. But then you’ve got people from SAGE and the BMA saying we should keep wearing them, and I’d imagine they know a bit better than Sajid Javid whose background is in finance.

What do you think?

YABU- I’ll continue to wear a mask
YANBU - I won’t be wearing a mask anymore.

@Waxonwaxoff0 but if workplaces move into hybrid working then it's easier to stay at home and work from home if you have a cold.

RolloTomassi · 06/07/2021 22:00

@Dontevenstart

Selfish fuckwads on here “I’m never wearing a mask again!” Fuck off and get covid then you selfish prick.
Lol thank god we have your permission

I work in a factory. I can't work from home. Nor can a lot of people in minumum wage jobs (retail, hospitality, care work) and those are the ones who often can't afford to stay home when sick.

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop

For some people you'd think a contagious infection was a brand new thing.

Ask yourselves why no one worried before about passing on colds or flu virus or ensured other people should "stay away" and socially distance

You're eating into the fear, a fear that's never been perpetuated before about contagious viruses that are just as bad or worse. Why is that? Wake up.

Well said. And in living memory there have been numerous worse infectious diseases that didn’t provoke the hysteria of this.

Really Teddington ?
Where you not around in the 80s when Aids hit then???

sallyfox · 06/07/2021 22:12

no

pam290358 · 06/07/2021 22:14

I’m in two minds about this. I’ve been wearing a mask religiously throughout the pandemic, but I saw an expert in infectious diseases a couple of weeks ago on TV. What he seemed to be saying was that the bog standard masks we use (standard hospital issue, pretty patterned ones etc) are useless as they don’t fit the face tightly enough, so can still allow the virus to enter through the sides. He showed a mask which is on general sale, which is shaped with a rigid muzzle over the nose and mouth, and fits tightly over cheeks and chin. More or less saying that anything other than this type won’t protect you from Covid. I think even the bog standard masks are probably better than nothing, so will probably continue even after the rules are relaxed.

LovelyIssues · 06/07/2021 22:15

No way

shouldistop · 06/07/2021 22:17

Absolutely not. Can't wait to bin them.

mrsanflowerpot · 06/07/2021 22:19

I absolutely hate them, but I will continue to wear them.

PineappleMojito · 06/07/2021 22:19

Definitely won’t be wearing one a minute longer after they’re no longer compulsory

WhoneedsDogs · 06/07/2021 22:19

I am an essential worker.

nopuppiesallowed · 06/07/2021 22:22

Since getting Covid in January, I can't wear a mask as it affects my breathing. I wear a visor. As I've been double jabbed and had coronovirus, I don't think I will get it again but will still wear my visor in crowded areas. Why would I want to worry others when the Delta Variant is so widespread? Also, when I cough and wheeze (long Covid) people are obviously uncomfortable. If I wasn't wearing a visor, they'd probably freak out!

Actually not enough hysteria was caused WRT AIDS. Having HIV or AIDS was a stigma and underfunded and under researched for years
AnnieSnap · 06/07/2021 22:30

@Dontevenstart Well said. I agree with you!

colouringindoors · 06/07/2021 22:30

Yes, indoors. To protect myself and others from the Delta variant which is about to explode.

No, they don’t offer the wearer much protection. They protect other people. Hence, if we all wear them, we all have a high level of protection.
Jellykat · 06/07/2021 22:49

Frangipan I was replying to Teddingtons 'In living memory there have been worse infectious diseases that didnt provoke such hysteria of this'
and disagreeing..
The Aids situation did provoke incredible fear and hysteria, regardless of the underfunding and research!

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 06/07/2021 22:50

No, I don't think so. My glasses are always getting steamed up. Any mask martyrs will get short shrift if they start preaching about it.

People did not isolate and wear masks en masse. It wasn't considered a population issue. Because it wasn't.

Flu is. It kills so many a year - so why in previous haven't we been as hysterical about flu?

101waystoworry · 06/07/2021 23:04

I definately will be, I like feeling more protected and protecting others from my germs. I haven't had a cold for over a year, so it has definitely helped.

Bertiebiscuit · 06/07/2021 23:23

Definitely - and every winter from now on I shall wear a mask on public transport and in shops as people are not hygienic about coughing and sneezing or handwashing - I've not had a single cold since the start of the pandemic - so my precautions are obviously good at keeping viruses out so I shall continue - as they do in Japan and Vietnam

this Government is bonkers. They should not allow us to decide for ourseles I am embarrassed to call myself British

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/07/2021 23:26

For crying out loud, we tell our children that germs are good for them. I certainly won't be avoiding germs. It worked before for almost 40 years
