Will you continue to wear a mask when they’re no longer compulsory?

I can’t really decide how I feel about it- as a pregnant woman with a tendency to get a bit sweaty in the face on warm days, I would like not to have to wear one whenever I’m inside a building that isn’t my own home. And I’m double jabbed so not at much risk. But then you’ve got people from SAGE and the BMA saying we should keep wearing them, and I’d imagine they know a bit better than Sajid Javid whose background is in finance.

What do you think?

YABU- I’ll continue to wear a mask
YANBU - I won’t be wearing a mask anymore.

I will in shops etc.

PuffinShop · 05/07/2021 19:38

I'm a bit surprised to see the 50/50 split. I live somewhere that already ditched masks a few weeks ago and the transformation overnight was almost complete - it went from everyone in the shop to 2 or 3 immediately. And it's nobody now (besides the odd tourist).

Has it been more politicised in the UK? I suppose the cases are higher so that could account for it as well, but some people are talking about wearing them forever in some circumstances so it can't be purely that.

mag2305 · 05/07/2021 19:38

Yes, I will. I'm pregnant but now due. I've had to be so careful the last 9 months, I can't imagine not being so. I might feel a bit more confident after my second jab and if numbers go down.

whatthejiggeries · 05/07/2021 19:39

Nope

TeddingtonTrashbag · 05/07/2021 19:58

No. Have never used s cloth one -re-use the one-use ones and only when I really have to.
Zero evidence masks ‘protect’ anybody. Good riddance.

Vintagevixen · 05/07/2021 20:12

No, no and no.

Unfortunately as an HCP I have to wear one for 11 hour shifts - I get enough hypercapnoeic headaches from that, don't want to be wearing the hateful things on my time off!

If I had any face masks I would burn them ceremoniously but I only tend to tie silk scarves around my face when in shops etc anyways.

Legopain · 05/07/2021 20:17

If requested to at a hospital, doctors or care home I would. Otherwise, absolutely not.

dementedma · 05/07/2021 20:29

Not a chance in hell

ufucoffee · 05/07/2021 20:38

No I'm not wearing one again. I hate them

Joesmummy1 · 05/07/2021 20:44

No. And once busy bars, clubs and events open it’ll seem daft to even consider it.

MurielSpriggs · 05/07/2021 21:22

@NigellaSeed

It only really works if everyone is wearing a mask though
I don't think that's right. If you think that masks work then for every person who wears them the risk will reduce a little bit. Even if in every supermarket only one single customer wears a mask, in some of those supermarkets that person will have covid, and infection levels will therefore be slightly lower.

(Having said that, that single person will not be me!)

FrangipaniBlue · 05/07/2021 21:33

Hell no, unless I had a cold/sniffles in which case I think I would.

Shallow07 · 05/07/2021 22:14

Yes. DF has terminal cancer and cannot risk picking up any infections. His consultant has said he cannot see us inside at all for the time being, and certainly not without masks in future. It's sad, I'll probably have to take my DD out of nursery with cases rising as they are but that's life unfortunately.

bendmeoverbackwards · 05/07/2021 22:57

I’m so sorry @Shallow07 ☹️ What would you say to those who won’t wear them any more because they ‘hate them’? 😡

galletti · 05/07/2021 23:04

Will still be wearing them on the tube. Especially when it gets busier.

Subjectivist · 05/07/2021 23:17

Absolutely not

MaisyMoo2021 · 05/07/2021 23:27

Yes, I'll continue to wear one in busy places - public transport etc.

Vivana · 05/07/2021 23:34

Nope only at work maybe.

@atshall07 I'm so sorry about what you're going through now, it's tough and it's shit. Part of why I'm keeping wearing maks is because I've been in your situation before this shit and I know how it is keep the sneezing fuckers out of the house. I hope it all goes OK for your Da. A lot of people have been in your situation and we remember so we will do what we can to mind the people who were our mothers, aunts, fathers, children, cousins, siblings...
Frezia · 06/07/2021 01:01

Yes. It's a small inconvenience at most for me but makes a notable difference for the vulnerable.

Will you continue to wear a mask when they’re no longer compulsory?
Rosebel · 06/07/2021 01:21

I have a feeling work might request us to wear them even when restrictions lift but if they can't enforce it I won't be wearing a mask.
I hate them. I'm better now but at the start I used to leave work feeling physically sick due to wearing a mask for so long.

beentoldcomputersaysno · 06/07/2021 01:44

Inside around strangers in busy places such as transport and supermarkets, I will. Outside I won't. It seems a small price to help curtail spread and to stop indirectly telling CEV people to isolate from normal tasks.

AlwaysLatte · 06/07/2021 01:56

Yes, in busy indoor areas.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/07/2021 02:16

Not a chance. I get all confused in the damn things. Can anyone else relate

Mintjulia · 06/07/2021 02:41

I'll continue to carry a mask. And possibly to wear it in very crowded and badly ventilated situations.
Thankfully I no longer need to travel on the tube and have learned to supermarket shop at 7am. I'll probably focus my efforts on staying away from crowded places.
