AIBU to think very few people still sit on a Stokke Tripp Trapp chair as adults

This high chair is very expensive, if buying new. But the selling point is you can use it forever, from baby till adult.

AIBU to think that very few teens or adults still use their hight chair to actually sit on itGrin, and the chair probably gets passed on to relatives/friends with children, or get sold.

YABU - I (or my DC) still sit on my Stokke chair as an adult.
YANBU - I (or my DC) am not using it since I can sit on a normal chair.

I had 3- I think DS used his until he was about 9? They took up too much space in my kitchen.

Tangledtresses · 04/07/2021 07:49

I had one for 16 years, it's had a lot of use! I gave it to my friend for her baby.. so long may it last 😀

GrandPrismatic · 04/07/2021 07:52

We have two still used multiple times a day by 4 and 6 year olds. I like them because they are a much better height for the kids sitting at the table than our dining chairs…the kids use them for all meals but also for art and crafting and jigsaws etc…they never ask to sit on the proper chairs. I’m sure the second one of their little friends comes round and asks why they are sitting in a baby chair it will be game over, but until that day…I’m holding out 😁.

Insertfunnyname · 04/07/2021 07:55

We use ours as emergency extra chairs and they’re fine for adults

WicketWoo · 04/07/2021 08:19

We have my husbands from when he was a baby and still use it when we have more people than chairs. He is 45 now.

I got the extra baby kit for when we had little ones.

I don't love them as a piece of furniture but I can't fault them for value for money.

AChickenCalledDaal · 04/07/2021 08:28

We still have two which are used as extra chairs. I agree that it's nice to now we have something that can be used by any visitor aged 2 to 102.

They are definitely strong enough for a heavy adult. Also good for standing on to change a light bulb - very stable and solid.

AChickenCalledDaal · 04/07/2021 09:43

Anyone suffering from TBS (tiny bum syndrome) presumably hasn't noticed that you're meant to use the footrest as a seat once you are big enough not to need the footrest. More than enough space for a grown-up bum.

ShiteningMcQueen · 04/07/2021 09:45

My bum's too big so rather than being wedged in, I keep sliding off 🤪

StripyHorse · 04/07/2021 09:56

We had the much cheaper Babydan version. It did get used as a spare chair until DD1 was about 9. As a high chair (without the bar) I found it perfect to perch on while ironing.

Of all the baby things we bought, the high chair was the best value - used constantly for about 6 years (about 6 months to 3 or 4 for both children) and then sold on. It does help that we only paid about £60 for it, didn't seem worth shelling out for a Trip Trap.

DivorcedAndDelighted · 04/07/2021 10:03

I bought Trip Trapps about 18 years ago. They were crap as high chairs, but great as toddler chairs. I had a few years where I thought they were rubbish - but now I use them all the time! I fight my DS to sit on the Trip Trapp at the table because the height is perfectly adjusted and perching on the edge is great for my dodgy back. A seat pad cushion makes it much more comfortable.

I think the newer ones are probably better high chairs than the classic Trip Trapp, but just for the record - incredibly difficult to clean, and babies throw things off the side all the time. Ended up using a £10 IKEA plastic highchair for subsequent babies and it was fab.

Fawful · 04/07/2021 10:23

We have three, two bought at near full price on EBay when the DC were little, and one I found for £5 in a charity shop.

We use them everyday around the table; they're far more comfortable than our other dining chairs, they really support the back.

So they're not just 'fine' for adults, they're great, ergonomic, and really sturdy.

They get sat on by heavy adults everyday, and we've had them for 15 years.

They're so sturdy, I don't know how they could ever break?

CruCru · 04/07/2021 10:29

We have these and my children (aged 7 and 9) sit on them to eat and to do homework. I am always a bit taken aback when a grown up chooses to sit on one though (we have other chairs)

bloodywhitecat · 04/07/2021 15:05

@BathshebaAndGabriel

I had to sit on one all evening to watch the England match (sodding dog was in my usual spot and MiL in my “other seat”) dragged in it from the kitchen.

Only ever felt like about 30% of my arse was ever actually on the seat. And I had to put my feet on the foot plate so looked like a total twat with my knees up.
And so chuffing hard….

In that case it is set up for a child and not as an adult seat, for an adult the footplate becomes the seat.

You had an issue because it wasn't set up as an adult chair. They need adjustments every time a child grows.
CheesyMother · 04/07/2021 21:32

My preschooler eats noticeably more and is better behaved (presumably as more comfortable) when they’re in the Tripp Trapp rather than on an adult chair with their legs dangling…

I love it for babies as they can properly sit at the table with you for food, but I do agree that it really comes into its own once children are a little older. You do need to make sure it is set up correctly for them though!

And if you are using it as an adult then you should be sitting on the footplate… it takes about a minute to adjust (as long as you have an Allen key) so there’s no excuse for it being uncomfortable even if it’s not set up for you initially.

Bryonyshcmyony · 04/07/2021 21:33

Dd is 15 and 5' 10 and still sits on hers and refuses to let me get rid of it

Attictroll · 04/07/2021 21:36

9 years and still going...I use it and find it great on my back. We nearly got the IKEA one but we needed one to tuck under a table due to a very small flat.

ProfessorSillyStuff · 04/07/2021 21:53

It's my favourite chair. Ergonomic, the only person who won't use it is the teenager, who also avoids smoothie boxes, nesquik/kinder chocolate and anything else that could be seen as for kiddies!

Snowisfallinghere · 15/10/2021 17:34

My husband and I both sit on our kids' ones if the kids decide they want to sit on our normal dining chairs for a change, they're actually surprisingly comfortable. I especially found it a really good healthy sitting posture during pregnancy which helped avoid back pain.

SnoopyMcLoopy · 15/10/2021 17:44

I use it at my sewing machine table 😊

LittleLottieChaos · 15/10/2021 17:45

Loved them as a kid, my parents kept ours till we were early 20s. Got one for my son and intend to do the same. One of the best product designs of recent years.

PaperMonster · 15/10/2021 18:39

Ten year old sits on hers.

CarrieBlue · 15/10/2021 18:40

My dc have theirs as desk chairs in their rooms so sit on them everyday

KeyWorker · 15/10/2021 19:14

My DD aged 6 still uses it at the table, if means she can sit up properly. Can see us using it for her for several years yet. We’ll probably use as a desk chair when she’s older.

JojobaFromOctober · 15/10/2021 19:40

Even if you don't use them as adults (but I don't see why they'd be uncomfortable once set up for an adult), a child will get years and years of use out of it. It's so much nicer for them to be at the right height for the table and not be dangling their legs.

We have 2, used by a 4 and 6 year old, and I know we will get many more years out of them at least.

I think they are really high quality, beautifully designed chairs.
