AIBU to think very few people still sit on a Stokke Tripp Trapp chair as adults

This high chair is very expensive, if buying new. But the selling point is you can use it forever, from baby till adult.

AIBU to think that very few teens or adults still use their hight chair to actually sit on itGrin, and the chair probably gets passed on to relatives/friends with children, or get sold.

YABU - I (or my DC) still sit on my Stokke chair as an adult.
YANBU - I (or my DC) am not using it since I can sit on a normal chair.

They look like toddler's high chairs, so I definitely wouldnt keep them in the house as an adult

careerchangeperhaps · 03/07/2021 19:34

I liked the idea of them but couldn't afford the initial outlay. We had a IKEA Antilop highchair (which pushes right to the table without a tray) and when this was outgrown, we bought IKEA Junior dining chairs which are smaller and allow them to sit higher to the table and lasted my children until about age 8-9.

FirmlyRooted · 03/07/2021 19:39

We've had ours for about 8 years and still use them. I actually had one as a child and my mum still uses it 30+ years later. Design is great and quality is amazing

MindyStClaire · 03/07/2021 19:40

We have one for our toddler, hoping she'll use it for a few more years then it can be moved upstairs and be the emergency Christmas chair, as PP said. May end up buying a second for DC2, we'll see.

I do agree the IKEA highchair is better as a highchair though

Luxplus · 03/07/2021 19:41

Ours are used every day by the dds. Oldest is 7 and has great use of hers. I consider it one of our great buys

MauveMavis · 03/07/2021 19:41

I've been in two houses for food in the last fortnight with teenagers where at least one of the chairs at the dining table is a Tripp Trapp.

So, yes some families do use them as normal dining chairs....

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 03/07/2021 19:41

I don’t think I’d be comfortable on one but I have a massive arse. SMP only stretched to the IKEA high chair. DC very tall though so didn’t need a booster for long before just moving on to normal chairs.

Mudddypaws · 03/07/2021 19:42

I have been sitting on my little boys at the kitchen table for the last year whilst working from home. Better height for me than the regular chairs. Best thing we bought for ds, got it off eBay and it pushes right under the table so doesn't take up any room. I imagine we will have it for years

BigButtons · 03/07/2021 19:43

I have used ours as normal chair for years- why ever not?

Albien · 03/07/2021 19:44

You need a pretty small arse to sit on it.

hibbledibble · 03/07/2021 19:44

No, as it made more sense to sell it second hand (they retain value well) and buy another chair. Plus I'm not convinced it would take the weight of all adults! They are very useful for children who are past the highchair stage though, but still need a raised chair to eat at the table.

LeonoraFlorence · 03/07/2021 19:44

All of our DDs have one and they’re used daily. Love them. I have been known to sit on them.

Iamaperiwinkle · 03/07/2021 19:45

Mine use theirs

VestaTilley · 03/07/2021 19:45

I’d never even heard of these until someone I know posted asking if anyone was selling one in our local neighbourhood Mum’s WhatsApp group.

What a waste of money! Shock My DS has been fine in his £12 IKEA one. The more expensive one we got from Mothercare for the dining room was cumbersome and never used.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/07/2021 19:48

I would use one, I think they're really smart and sturdy looking

Gatehouse77 · 03/07/2021 19:48

Mine used them until 16, 14 & 13 and the only reason they don’t now is because we could no longer store the redundant dining chairs but their Tripp Trapps are flat pack. All stored until they move out.

recededpronunciation · 03/07/2021 19:49

Ours are 17 years old and still in use as desk chairs by my teens. The kids still find them far more comfortable than any other desk chair. The ‘small bum’ issue is solved by swapping the footrest and seat as they grow.

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 03/07/2021 19:49

I can’t remember when we handed ours on to someone else, but my youngest was at least ten so we’d had a decent amount of use out of it.

EssentialHummus · 03/07/2021 19:53

Same as careerchange. Though I’m considering the Hauck tripptrapp knock-off now that I’ll basically need three high chairs in the house for the next five years.

WeAllHaveWings · 03/07/2021 19:53

Ds is 17 and we used it as a spare chair at the dinner table when he had friends over until he was around 14/15. Not sure how comfy it would be for sitting in any longer than for a meal. It's still up in the loft and gets used occasionally if we are short of chairs for kids/teens.

drivinmecrazy · 03/07/2021 19:54

I wouldn't dream of dumping ours and DDs are 15 & 20!!
I'm far too sentimental to ditch them.
They hold such memories, I have dreams (far far into the future) of having grandchildren visiting and using them.
Best money we ever spent !!

Hallyup6 · 03/07/2021 19:57

Bloody hell, the price of that?! Looks like a very cheap IKEA flat pack (although I'll admit their cheapest highchair is fab) and if I had one my kids would knacker it or draw on it within a week.

Gemma2019 · 03/07/2021 19:59

I had two when my twins were little and sold them on eBay when they were about 4 for close to what I paid for them.

Panicmode1 · 03/07/2021 20:00

Ours are still being used by our teens....16 and 17 years after we first bought them!

LIZS · 03/07/2021 20:01

Dd still uses ours for a chair to play a keyboard.
