AIBU to think very few people still sit on a Stokke Tripp Trapp chair as adults

This high chair is very expensive, if buying new. But the selling point is you can use it forever, from baby till adult.

AIBU to think that very few teens or adults still use their hight chair to actually sit on itGrin, and the chair probably gets passed on to relatives/friends with children, or get sold.

YABU - I (or my DC) still sit on my Stokke chair as an adult.
YANBU - I (or my DC) am not using it since I can sit on a normal chair.

We used have a silent and undignified jostle over who had to sit on the Stokke chair, every time we went round to friends who had one. Don’t know if there is another setting for adults that would have been more comfortable, but I hated it.

whojamaflip · 03/07/2021 20:03

We were given ours 18 years ago for child number 1, youngest is now 12 and it's migrated to the office where I use it daily - it's actually really comfortable.

thatllberight · 03/07/2021 20:11

I like the idea that the child has it as a baby, toddler etc then when they move out of home they have to take it with them into student halls, drag it into the office each day and so on because it HAS to be used as an adult.

Nogoodusername · 03/07/2021 20:13

That’s hilarious! Did not occur to me to keep my DS’s 🤣

angelikacpickles · 03/07/2021 20:14

We've had ours for 9 years. My DS(7) sits on it all the time but I occasionally plonk my arse on it too. He's perfectly capable of sitting on an ordinary chair, obviously, but it's there so he may as well sit on it.

rattlemehearties · 03/07/2021 20:18

Yes ours are now over 30 years old so have been used by babies, children, adults, now babies and children again. Have you realised that the chair and footrest sections swap so it becomes more comfy?

Snowisfallinghere · 03/07/2021 20:19

They are actually really comfortable for adults. I used to like it when I was pregnant with my second, as it aligned the back nicely too.

I live in Switzerland and they're super popular here. I think people prefer to buy high quality, long-lasting stuff than a plastic tat highchair that gets used for a few months then discarded. These get passed down/around the family for generations.

LunchWithAGruffalo · 03/07/2021 20:20

I find it quite comfortable, especially for sewing or using the computer, it's a better height than our dinning chairs.

Ds used it daily till the end of primary but now prefers a different chair.

The instruction booklet had a picture of an adult playing a guitar sitting in it, all the guitarists here say it's a really good chair for playing in.

Hottesttrikeintown · 03/07/2021 20:21

Mine is just one of the chairs around our table - I don’t go for matching sets. I sit on it if it’s closest as do guests or whoever is at our table.

I had a physio assessment for WFH and they complimented it as a good chair for working!

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 03/07/2021 20:24

DS had one (third hand - free off a relative who had also had many years' use). He used it until he moved into an adult chair at 7/8. I think having furniture that actually fits you is a major thing and something children too often have to cope without. If him 'growing out of it' (actually just 'growing out of being better off with it') had necessitated buying an extra chair, he'd have stayed in the Stokke indefinitely, but actually it's a valuable space saver as my normal dining chairs fold away between meals.

DD is in the Hauck knock-off. It's perceptibly lower quality than the Stokke one, and less beautiful, but £25 is hard to turn down.

I never quite get why people compare/contrast it with the IKEA one (i guess because they are the only two styles of high chairs that make much sense at all?) - seems to me they're very different chairs for different purposes. I used an ikea one at my mum's, have one stashed away in my cupboard for when my niece visits, they're a bargain and so easy to clean, but they quickly become irrelevant at about 18 months. And I do think that eating without your legs dangling is nicer for everyone tbh.

APipkinOfPepper · 03/07/2021 20:27

Ours is still being used - it is good for sitting them at the table a little higher than a normal chair when too old for an actual high chair and was used like that for several years before migrating to be used as a desk chair for homework. Also used as an emergency chair when we have lots of people round

Moonlaserbearwolf · 03/07/2021 20:29

I agree with you OP. We got rid of ours when youngest child was about 4. Served its purpose well for about 7 years, but not comfortable enough for me to sit on, plus it just reminded me too much of weaning!

avocadotofu · 03/07/2021 20:30

We have one for our nearly three year old and I think it's great. He really likes it and I think we'll be using it for few more years.

Anjo2011 · 03/07/2021 20:46

We know a family with children aged 11 and 8, both of their ( not very tall) children sit on them at the dining table.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 03/07/2021 20:54

I had two when my twins were little and sold them on eBay when they were about 4 for close to what I paid for them.

You absolute monster! Oh, wait, you meant the chairs.... Grin

EverythingDelegated · 03/07/2021 20:59

Mine kept theirs till they were about 10 but then started to feel they were babyish, we sold them.

TheKeatingFive · 03/07/2021 21:03

DH sits in DS’s one as his wfh chair.

Genius marketing to push this ‘for life’ story as it encourages getting one for each child instead of handing down.

I work in marketing and I’m in awe at how good this company is at getting people to part with cash 🤣

reluctantbrit · 03/07/2021 21:03

Depends on your set up. DD used hers until she was around 9 when we bought new dining room furnitures. We loved that it was slim and would go straight to the table, no need for a booster seat or cushions. We had awkward dining chairs so she needed a different one to sit comfortably.

We originally planned to move it as her chair for her desk, friends did it for their youngest but she needed a desk/chair combo a lot earlier.

QuizzicalTikTok · 03/07/2021 21:03

We have two and they are our best baby purchases.

They aren't really high chairs. They are excellent children's chairs which can also be high chairs. In my opinion they are incredibly good value and really come into their own at around 2 when children are transitioning out of a high chair. They allow children to sit in an ergonomic way, high at the table with legs supported. It's so important for children to have their legs supported when sitting. It makes a huge difference. It's partly why children's desks at school are small. If they are writing or drawing especially it's hugely beneficial to sit with Fett grounded. My 7 year old used his for eating at the table and for all his homework. We notice a real difference when he sits on a regular chair. He's all over the place

And yes I occasionally sit on it. It's comfortable enough for me.

Yellredder · 03/07/2021 21:05

We had one of these from birth - had the newborn attachment which was fab. Daughter’s ten and still uses the chair. Can’t see us getting riD of it.

Solasum · 03/07/2021 21:12

I was looking at ergonomic desk chairs when forced to work from home, then realised that I had one already, and have been using the Tripp Trapp since March 2020
as my desk chair. It is incredibly comfortable and not hideous.

Feetupteashot · 03/07/2021 21:24

I fell over the ikea Antilop (also excellent) more times than the Tripp Trapp tho!

LuaDipa · 03/07/2021 21:30

@BarbarianMum

Mine sat on them til 13/11 respectively. There friends used to fight to sit on them . Very comfortable.
Ours refused after about 10, but we felt they were one of our best value children’s tat items. I gave one to a friend for her dc and sold the other so they are still be being used now.
RubaiyatOfAnyone · 03/07/2021 21:32

I have two (or one brand one copy) and they are excellent so far with 6-yr old and toddler, since they outgrew the standard ikea high chair.

But we have a slightly high than average dining table, so a toddler or six year old graduating to a normal adult chair would have their chin on the table for several years…

camouflagejacket · 03/07/2021 21:33

My DH sits on our old one to play guitar. his 8 YO GS refuses to sit on it at dinner if we are short of chairs so I do.
