AIBU to think very few people still sit on a Stokke Tripp Trapp chair as adults

This high chair is very expensive, if buying new. But the selling point is you can use it forever, from baby till adult.

AIBU to think that very few teens or adults still use their hight chair to actually sit on itGrin, and the chair probably gets passed on to relatives/friends with children, or get sold.

YABU - I (or my DC) still sit on my Stokke chair as an adult.
YANBU - I (or my DC) am not using it since I can sit on a normal chair.

I got one second hand and both DC have refused it after they were 2. I guess it's just not as comfy as our padded dining room chairs.

cloverleafy · 03/07/2021 21:43

I've bought 3, all 2nd hand. My eldest stopped using his around 11 (5' tall). We sold it for as much as we paid for it a decade earlier. The other two are still using theirs and I'm confident again we'll recoup the costs. My 4'11" mil quite likes to sit on one when here.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 03/07/2021 21:52

All of my kids use them & refuse to change to "normal" chairs - eldest is 13 Grin

DH sits on one occasionally but my wonky hip huge arse doesn't like them much.

Missmonkeypenny · 03/07/2021 22:04

I sit on DDs Blush she's a very tall 7 year old and I'm a very short adult but I find it very comfortable

Girlwhowearsglasses · 03/07/2021 22:13

My DTs are 13 and oldest is 15. Still very much using them!

Dc15 has Adhd and it has been brilliant because you really can't rock a Tripp Trapp backwards like you can any other chair. They are really good for minimising fidgeting.

I often sit on them - but when you have three DCs they can be quite territorial about 'their' chair, so it's quite good they have a particular coloured chair as their own.

Ours aren't going anywhere

whattodo2019 · 03/07/2021 22:18

My 14 and 16 still sit on theirs!! They love them weirdly and won't let me part with them. They are 5ft10 and 5ft8!!

frazzledasarock · 03/07/2021 22:20

I used to use it as a computer chair, only switched to an office chair when I had to WFH during the pandemic.

I’ve had mine for eighteen years, and it’s still in great condition.

MsSquiz · 03/07/2021 22:21

We don't have the Tripp Trapp, we have the other one (can't remember the name) and we got it based on the fact that it can be used by adults.
My SIL had 2 for her twins and they are used as extra seating at Christmas, usually by the kids, but have been used by adults. I don't see them as any different to "emergency chairs" for occasions

Bouncebacker · 03/07/2021 22:23

My niece is 19 and sits on hers when she is home - my kids are 9 and 6 and sit on theirs everyday

CovIneedanamechange · 03/07/2021 22:28

We've got two, both bought second hand and they are used every day by both me and the dcs. Genuinely worth the investment!

prettybird · 03/07/2021 22:29

YABU: my parents got one for ds when he was wee and we still use it (complete with the lower shelf bit which were originally for his toddler feet) and he is 20 now Grin It's very comfortable and great for sitting at when working at a computer.

We now call it the "ladder chair" as it's useful to use when you need to get something from high up. It's wonderfully solid and stable. We have a Victorian house so very high ceilings so the top of the kitchen cabinets are very high Wink

starsinyourpies · 03/07/2021 22:33

YABU I sit on ours ( both eBay purchases!)

Zhampagne · 03/07/2021 22:35

YANBU but they are one of those purchases which really hold their value so the years that you use it end up being fairly cheap once you recoup part of your initial outlay by selling it on. See also Baby Björn bouncers, certain slings, and Islabikes.

Always a fan of Stokke as my child has the full set staring with Mini baby crib to current fully extended junior bed and Tripp Trapp highchair adjusted for height. Never thought of highchair for anyone other than young child. Not sure it will take the weight of a larger male adult.

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 03/07/2021 22:48

Ours is still in use after 17 years and three children.

MrsToothyBitch · 03/07/2021 22:50

No dc here but was thinking about getting one as an office chair for my desk at home. I'm quite short and I'm hypermobile so anything that helps me sit better is good; I've got a big bum though!

If it doesn't work in the office, it can become the chair of shame/dressing table chair in the bedroom. We also now have friends and relatives with smalls, so will be handy for visitors, either way. I'd buy second hand if poss though- just in case I get stuck.

Perfectlystill · 03/07/2021 22:52

Hahahaha

YANBU

LaPampa · 03/07/2021 22:52

We have two. Still in use ten years later. Sat on by many an adult when we ran out of dining chairs in pre-COVID days… bought them second hand, brilliant having chairs that anyone can use, particularly when little ones come over.

prettybird · 03/07/2021 22:55

Not sure it will take the weight of a larger male adult.

They absolutely can. We have a morbidly obese fat friend who sits on ds' one with no problem Grin

MrsToothyBitch · 03/07/2021 23:01

@prettybird good to know!

Cowbells · 03/07/2021 23:10

I HATED ours. Bloody expensive rubbish high chairs. Wish I had gone for sheap plastic ones with a wrap-around table. And yes, no one ever chooses them in adult hood because they are so uncomfortable. I kept trying to get DS to use his as a music stool, as he could adjust it to bar stool height with a ledge to perch his feet on when playing guitar. he had zero interest in this and bought himself a proper guitar stool. They still clutter up our house as extra chairs when we have lots of guests for dinner. Most of the time they just waste space.

purplebatbear · 03/07/2021 23:21

I have had one for 44 years! It was one of the first ever ones to be brought into the UK (my dad was friends with the guy who ran Stokke) and it has been incredible!

All the children have used it right through - it became my chair in my room at my desk as a teenager and at university as well as a kind of bar stool.

It now been used by my two babies and my DS is still using it (he's 10). We have bought another for our DD and we'll never sell them on.

They are very very strong and sturdy.

Katiepoes · 03/07/2021 23:21

My 11 yearold has hers at her desk in her room, it gets brought down when needed if we have a lot of people for dinner. I've used it at my own desk when my chair broke, they are absolutely worth the money.

BirdyBrain · 03/07/2021 23:32

My DD is nine and won't change to another chair. The chair sits at the kitchen table, any of my DD friends who visit this is always the go to chair.

BathshebaAndGabriel · 03/07/2021 23:55

I had to sit on one all evening to watch the England match (sodding dog was in my usual spot and MiL in my “other seat”) dragged in it from the kitchen.

Only ever felt like about 30% of my arse was ever actually on the seat. And I had to put my feet on the foot plate so looked like a total twat with my knees up.
And so chuffing hard….
