To feel quite pissed off about the lack of summer so far

Where I live it's due to rain again all next week. Not expecting it to be scorching but even a break from all the rain would be nice, with it being July tomorrow. It feels like the summer is going to pass us by without it ever really happening.

Week. I am sunburned this evening Blush
I caught the sun on my shoulders yesterday too! Oops Blush
AwkwardSquad · 02/07/2021 10:09

I caught the sun yesterday too, on my upper shoulders and back, and forearms. What a twit. Lovely walk by the river, though!

StCharlotte · 02/07/2021 22:03

Last day of our week's UK holiday and it's been glorious today. But only today. Which is why I never choose a UK holiday in normal times. I need a couple of weeks of walk to wall sunshine to recharge.

My Facebook page has been bringing up memories of 2012. I swear the only weeks it didn't rain that year was during the Olympics. Remember that hideous jubilee pageant?

I have to use up my annual leave so have a couple of weeks booked off at the beginning and end of August. UK again. Pleeeeeeease let it be sunny (especially for the two weddings I'm going to).

@Furries

I am totally fed up of the rain and constant grey sky - South East here. Trying to grab a slot to mow the lawn has been difficult.

Had a 20 minute rainstorm end of last week that was unlike anything I’ve seen before. Village high street was flooded both ends, my front garden was under a good 3 inches of water - it was nuts!

I just want a couple of weeks of blue sky and early twenties in temperature. I feel like I’ve been stuck in October since, well, October.

First and last paragraphs I could have written. South east too.

Every time a little sun symbol appears in the distant future on my weather app, it just as soon disappears.

Fed up!

Bythemillpond · 03/07/2021 12:21

It’s not raining atm but it is still grey.

GreenCrayon · 04/07/2021 17:34

Anyone else had torrential downpours and thunderstorms today? It's been utterly awful here.

Bythemillpond · 04/07/2021 17:37

Still grey but no rain.

@DysonSphere

YAB very very Unreasonable!

I hate summers in Britain. I'm in SE london and for an Island there's no breeze. I don't understand it! I've been to tropical islands and the heat is strong but there's a breeze normally which makes it bearable. I'm black and I even get sun burned in the UK. The heat is just sweltering and very direct it seems.. I give a concession, summers in Cornwall are great as they do get a breeze, but elsewhere the air quality is awful and sun bares down without so much as a whiff of airflow. Don't get me started on the combination of high pollen, air pollution and heat expanding everything

This is a nice, cool summer, refreshing and dewy. I love it, can breathe better, went to park in the pouring warm rain at about 8.00pm the other day it was great.

I was expecting the usual I hate Summer thread. Nice to have a reverse!

Love this! I’m loving this summer although the sudden WARM but short downpours are a bit of a nuisance. There’s also a lovely breeze atm. I hated it a week or so ago when it was hot, clammy and airless and dreaded it continuing. It didn’t!

It is of course the high humidity which makes sunny weather difficult if you have to actually walk ir work in it! Not so bad if you can relax on a beach or in a garden

So I agree. A lovely, cool, dewey summer 😊

Seems like it's already autumn where I live...

It does have that feel of autumn

Autumn is my favourite season though...

Cluelessbeetroot · 04/07/2021 18:53

I mean… y’all know we live in 🇬🇧 right ?

DinosApple · 04/07/2021 19:03

We've had crap weather this year in Suffolk, bar the two weeks in May/June. Showers or persistent rain every day, cooler temperatures and just grey. Yuck!

And all those saying this is just how the UK is, no it's not. In these parts it's usually fairly settled, we normally get some of the dryest warmest weather, all the clouds having rained themselves out westwards somewhere. This year the crops are behind and the garden is well behind where they usually are. Normally the wheat is starting to turn by now but it's still bright green.

Sounds like it's been beautiful in Scotland and the north though, hope you're all enjoying it! Wish I was there!

We're camping in Norfolk for two weeks soon so don't expect lovely weather down here just yet.

Yes but even for England this is utterly rubbish. I wouldn't mind warm rain showers or a cool breeze but thus far apart from a few nice days it's just been cold, windy and wet since last autumn.
Katekarate · 04/07/2021 21:22

It's very wet for July even so far isn't it. Felt thoroughly miserable when I saw it raining again this morning. I believe even parts of Scotland may have had some rain now.

I’m in the north too. We’ve had loads of hot weather. I think it was sunny on Friday and Thursday. Sunny this afternoon.
And about 3 weeks of hot weather every day. Often too hot to do gardening.

I must say it makes a change! It’s usually the South that get all the warm dry weather.

PickUpAPepper · 04/07/2021 21:53

We needed the rain, everywhere was very dry where I am. We need some weather gods to complain to and get our money back. Grin

Sunny again this morning round me. I spent an hour in the garden on each summer day. I go brown really easily.

Im dark brown. Like I’ve been abroad for 3 weeks. I’ve not really ever been this colour before. So in Sheffield we are having quite a good summer.

The photo of my toes sunbathing was taken in Friday. The sky was that colour all day with no clouds

TBF, we had an amazing summer last year, this is just a more normal British summer, it's not even an especially bad one. It's generally not freezing or pouring and I think I actually like this slightly changable weather more than those really, really tedious summers where it's 'cloudy 18-20C' every single day for three months and never gets properly warm!

Its awful, windy and wet, gales and torrential rain tonight for the south west and south of england.

The spring was either freezing or soaking, a few weeks of changeable weather and now months of Atlantic weather systems to look forward too.

I'd die for weeks of 18 to 20 instead of this shite.

Why the F can't we go abroad now?

Macaroni46 · 05/07/2021 09:03

Sports day postponed for the second week due to rain. This is getting depressing now. Another week of rain forecast following the wash outs that were May and June!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 05/07/2021 09:05

That weather app is crap though. It always says rain. Met office or BBC are better.

GreenCrayon · 05/07/2021 09:06

It has been here unfortunately. We've had a small handful of dry days but probably no more than 20 all year where it hasn't rained at least once.

This weekend it was horrendous we had thunder, lightning and torrential downpours and this week its forecast to rain everyday again. Its like a never ending soggy groundhog day.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/07/2021 09:10

We keep having really long dry spells here, so my experience doesn't match yours!

I'd rather have more rain so I don't have to keep watering the allotment! We seem to have 3-4 weeks with no rain then all the missing rain over a couple of days. Rinse and repeat! NW coast.
