To feel quite pissed off about the lack of summer so far

Where I live it's due to rain again all next week. Not expecting it to be scorching but even a break from all the rain would be nice, with it being July tomorrow. It feels like the summer is going to pass us by without it ever really happening.

It's just relentless. Location redacted because I don't want to out myself too much.

Been really hot and sunny in Cornwall for 3 days but next week doesn't look that good.

DysonSphere · 01/07/2021 11:15

YAB very very Unreasonable!

I hate summers in Britain. I'm in SE london and for an Island there's no breeze. I don't understand it! I've been to tropical islands and the heat is strong but there's a breeze normally which makes it bearable. I'm black and I even get sun burned in the UK. The heat is just sweltering and very direct it seems.. I give a concession, summers in Cornwall are great as they do get a breeze, but elsewhere the air quality is awful and sun bares down without so much as a whiff of airflow. Don't get me started on the combination of high pollen, air pollution and heat expanding everything

This is a nice, cool summer, refreshing and dewy. I love it, can breathe better, went to park in the pouring warm rain at about 8.00pm the other day it was great.

I was expecting the usual I hate Summer thread. Nice to have a reverse!

@GreenCrayon

We really don't. I walk to walk daily when it's not raining. I've only used the car maybe 5-10 times this year.

Where on earth do you live in the UK that it's only rained 5-20 times in the whole year? We've just had one of the wettest May's on record. Did you mean its not been wet and grey for approximately 5-0 days for the whole year because that seems more accurate. If not do let me know where you are and I'll start packing immediately. Grin I'm so over wearing jumpers and coats in June and our forecast isn't looking any better for July. Sad

Quite. It pissed down for an entire week recently.
MillionBells · 01/07/2021 11:26

I'm just south of London and today's weather is my favourite type. Sunny but cool. We had a lot of that in the first lockdown last year and it was lovely for walking in. Upper twenties/30s I'm not keen on.

newnortherner111 · 01/07/2021 11:26

The forecasts are not always accurate. It will be the second week of Wimbledon though.

MillionBells · 01/07/2021 11:27

Think the sun's gone in now but it was lovely when I was outside just now!

GreenCrayon · 01/07/2021 11:31

We've had only 2 orv3 days in the last few weeks where we have not had rain. Some days it's just a few showers but the sky stays grey and gloomy in between and others it's full on torrential downpours. The none rainy days have not been very warm though and you've still needed a jumper or light jacket.

I don't need it to be 30 degrees and uncomfortable but my goodness surely it's not too much to ask for at this point in the year that it stops pissing it down quite so much.

I've been doing a lot of walking this year and last (started pre-pandemic when I got an Apple Watch for Xmas). In Lancashire - so, at the high end of average rainfall even if anomalous at the moment - there have been very few days when it's rained all day such that we couldn't get out at all.

This is fine for adults with flexible schedules (my work is part time and hours almost entirely of my choosing). It's obviously very different if you've got little kids or you're on holiday and want to be out all day.

We've had a lot of rain overnight but that doesn't affect daytime which is what we're talking about. Lots and lots of days I've woken up to it having rained overnight.

I'm envious I'd happily settle for it only happening overnight but it's day and night here and far too often my liking. I just want to venture outside for a walk without several layers or an umbrella.

Just shows the variation in weather/climate in different parts of the country. That's what makes it interesting I suppose.
ForgedInFire · 01/07/2021 13:15

Currently sat in the garden enjoying the only dry day forecast for the next week. And it's cloudy and damp but it's better then nothing

lynsey91 · 01/07/2021 13:24

@user1497207191 well maybe it hasn't been raining when you go to work but pretty sure it has rained some of the rest of the day. Unless, of course, you live in some weird part of the UK that hasn't had all the rain that the rest of us have.

As another poster said, we have had the wettest May for years

BarberQueue · 01/07/2021 14:05

I think we've had pretty much near perfect weather this month. We've had one wet day and one day when it was cold. Other than that it's been warm, dry and sunny - not too hot, not too cold. Cool nights so it's comfortable to sleep. I can't remember the last time I wore a coat.

That's quite an achievement for July 1st.Grin Obviously you meant last month... yes, May was something of a washout here but June has been pleasant on the whole.
Marmite27 · 01/07/2021 15:13

@Katekarate

London isn’t the whole U.K. though. The rest of us are having decent weather. Grin
I know this wasn’t you OP, but no we’re bloody not. It’s been miserable in Yorkshire most of the year apart from a week late May/ early June.
SoupDragon · 01/07/2021 15:21

The latter half of June has been miserable here. I had to shut my bedroom windows it was so bloody cold at night.

I've just had to put a hoody on as I'm cold today, whilst muttering "FFS! It's July!)

Definitely not my experience - do you live in one of the hotspots of Manchester Scotland or NI?

Another beautiful day here in Cumbria - not too hot but sunny and a nice breeze. I think we've had two days of rain in the last month, and even then it didn't last all day.

It won't last though - it's due to piss it down on Sunday Grin

ForgedInFire · 01/07/2021 20:30

I genuinely considered putting the heating on a few days ago but I talked myself out of it on the principle that it was June

AnyFucker · 01/07/2021 22:50

Week. I am sunburned this evening Blush

AnyFucker · 01/07/2021 22:50

*well

Furries · 01/07/2021 23:39

I am totally fed up of the rain and constant grey sky - South East here. Trying to grab a slot to mow the lawn has been difficult.

Had a 20 minute rainstorm end of last week that was unlike anything I’ve seen before. Village high street was flooded both ends, my front garden was under a good 3 inches of water - it was nuts!

I just want a couple of weeks of blue sky and early twenties in temperature. I feel like I’ve been stuck in October since, well, October.

Another morning waking up wondering what damage the slugs have done to my veg and do I need a jacket today.
