To feel quite pissed off about the lack of summer so far

Where I live it's due to rain again all next week. Not expecting it to be scorching but even a break from all the rain would be nice, with it being July tomorrow. It feels like the summer is going to pass us by without it ever really happening.

Yes, all fed up here with the weather, just need some sunshine.

Imnothereforthedrama · 01/07/2021 07:40

Eh are we talking about the uk ?
It rains and some days it doesn’t that’s how the uk weather is .
If you want sunny weather every day from April to September then move to Spain .
I think it’s been quite nice so far this summer I’m quite brown catching it sitting in the garden or going for a run at the weekend and evenings .
To complain about the weather is very British but it doesn’t stop you doing anything you want to do and I don’t see how you can say it’s ruined summer on the 1st July .

DappledThings · 01/07/2021 07:41

Could do with a break from the rain but I'm delighted with the temperatures. I'm wearing a jumper now and delighted to be doing so in July for a bit

Hollyhead · 01/07/2021 07:41

I don’t know, I’d rather this than the terrifying temperatures they’ve had in Canada! Sometimes it’s better to be grateful for the status quo.

NotMeekNotObedient · 01/07/2021 07:41

Hate the UK's weather, planning a BBQ on Saturday and now looking like rain. No idea how I'm going to fit 21 people in my tiny house.

FedNlanders · 01/07/2021 07:42

We've booked 2 weeks in Cornwall. Had 2 sunny days this week and next week looks like a total waste of money, complete wash out

singlehun · 01/07/2021 07:46

In the recent past years we've had beautiful May and june then summer has flopped right as the school holidays have started so I'm hoping we're in for the reverse this year.

I'll probably have my dreams crushed but trying to remain optimistic

Looneytune253 · 01/07/2021 07:46

I think we've had quite a lot of sun so far!!! And I'm in the north east. We had a wet and soggy winter and spring but lots of sunny days in the last month and it's only just july.

FedNlanders · 01/07/2021 07:46

Looks like a heatwave when we get back nooooo heatwaves at home are horrible in our 3rd floor bedroom. :(

Doghead · 01/07/2021 07:46

I think YABU because there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. It's a pointless waste of energy to be pissed off about something you can't do anything about. That energy would be better used elsewhere.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 01/07/2021 07:46

We’ve never had consistently good summers though. It’s the U.K., we’re noted for rain. It’s only been 4 weeks of the “summer” season, 2 weeks of that were unusually hot for June.

I’m another in East Midlands and don’t think it’s been that bad. A bit of drizzle isn’t anything to cry about, it drizzled a teeny bit on Saturday but by 2pm the sun was out and DP even got a bit pink in the face (fair complexion).

I do think the seasons aren’t as defined as they once were, probably climate change has a lot to do with this. I seem to remember the past few years September has always been a lot warmer that usual, seasons shifting perhaps.

I also struggle to understand this mentality too. The only thing stopping you from enjoying yourself is you. Whack some water proofs on, dress for the weather and go exploring the beautiful countryside.
SoupDragon · 01/07/2021 07:49

Have people got the memory of a goldfish? We had a week or two of very warm weather earlier June

Oooh! A whole week! Compared to months of shit.

😉

Yeah I’m in the north too and it’s been mostly lovely. Sounds like it’s been down south that’s been rubbish oh dear .

No idea where you are but we had about a fortnight of sun after months of cold and rainy weather and now rain. Day after day of rain, cold, grey skies.
If it was a few days here and there then sunshine no problem but it isn’t. We have not really stopped using our central heating it has been so cold.

Even work had to be stopped because the rain was so heavy and it didn’t look like it was going to let up (it didn’t) so we missed out on money.

We 've had some terrible summers down here over recent years, the spring months seem to be better but once we hit June, its rainy and cold the majority of the time. For this reason, normally, would never in a million years holiday in the UK.

I hope the forecast is wrong and you get some decent weather.

Livelovebehappy · 01/07/2021 08:02

North west here, and whilst there's been not much sunshine, it’s been dry most of the last three weeks. Holidaying in the Lakes next week, and weather predictions are rain and thunder storms! But at least we don’t have young children to try to keep occupied. Looks like wellies and a rain mac for us.

MagicSummer · 01/07/2021 08:07

'You must be in a different south west from me, we've had non stop drizzle and grey overcast skies for the last month!'

@Alannawhorideslikeaman - same here - South Coast. Freezing May, couple of weeks passable weather at the beginning of June, but since mid-June we have had torrential rain on several occasions, and it's been cold enough to have the heating on and wear a coat. It's warmish at the moment but still grey skies and little sunshine. Fed up with it!

FedNlanders · 01/07/2021 08:16

I didnt add that the weather is ok for me, I seim whatever the weather and I prefer it cooler BUT with 4 asd kids it just gets hard as everywhere needs to be prebooked etc and just takes the fun out of it a bit. I hate pre booking.

Whacking on waterproofs that you will have had to spend a fair amount buying and going to look at fields and maybe a sea view if the cloud cover hasn’t turned to mist is not some people’s idea of enjoying yourself. Personally I think I would go home than endure a walk in the pouring rain.
If you go on holiday to Cornwall then from my experience you are being unreasonable to expect good weather. I have been several times and it has always lashed down with rain.
I now avoid the place.

FedNlanders · 01/07/2021 08:18

We live in rural Suffolk so really don't fancy rainy countryside walks, its just typical the heatwave starts when we get home and my bedroom will be sweltering again lol

Chamonixshoopshoop · 01/07/2021 08:20

You’re right op, we had about 1 week of sunshine here and now it’s grey again.
I had to wear a jumper AND a coat last week. It was bloody cold.

Poorlykitten · 01/07/2021 08:23

I’m in the Lakes and it’s been really hot all week. This is extremely unusual I may add but am loving it!

m0therofdragons · 01/07/2021 08:30

It’s so wet here. I’m completely fed up with it. Next week I’m expecting our summer holiday will be cancelled - USA in August. Mind you, my brother is in Canada and they have government orders to keep doors shut because bears are coming in to homes to cool down with air con and people are dying in the heat… I still hate constant rain.

Zee23 · 01/07/2021 08:32

I feel the same. Now things are opening up it would be nice to have some nice weather Atleast no rain just so I can get the kids out of the house and take them to some nice places as obviously as the majority of us we have hardly been anywhere over the past year. Even just wish the weather would be dry so I could Atleast take them out to a nice park for the day. I suffer with mental health and being outside really helps me a lot and the bad weather is just starting to get me down now
