40,000 Fans and No Masks

DadAManger · 29/06/2021 18:44

Watching the football. Yes, I like the football.

But WTF, no masks (literally not one mask) and hugging and kissing like it’s a San Francisco in 1980.

This pandemic is over then? My kids aren’t being sent home from school again, I can spend time sitting with my grandmother at home? I know I will be told ‘life has to go on as normal’. I think I have lost my mind - I just don’t understand anymore.

The lifting of restrictions can’t come soon enough. I’m jealous that sports fans get their events but those of us with other passions such as music and theatre have to wait. And the restrictions are being lifted too late for school pupils rites of passage. It’s all about money not science.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 29/06/2021 20:53

no masks fromthe royals either which might explain Kate's unhappy expression

Freckers · 29/06/2021 20:53

@Coldwine75

HATE football too and is is SOOOOOOOOOO wrong 40,000 fans and no masks....................
Yes that's correct. Something, something, easing of restrictions, something something, leading towards opening up.

Unbelievable.

Quaggars · 29/06/2021 20:57

@spongedog
I saw this and for the 1st time in 15 months - thought fuck it. I am off to a wedding tomorrow - all carefully socially distanced. Just why do normal people have to comply

You can go to a wedding though, so not sure what you mean by this comment, why would you think fuck it?
Just go, social distance and have fun

whynotwhatknot · 29/06/2021 20:58

wimbledon is not the proper test as yo call it its the lf one which is at best about 60% accurate

Bryonyshcmyony · 29/06/2021 20:59

40,000 fans and no masks...but 2 bloody amazing goals.

Get in!!!

toocold54 · 29/06/2021 21:01

Blah blah blah. Absolutely brilliant atmosphere, so good to see the crowds back. Couldn’t care less what people like you think.

I think some people are missing the point of some posts.

It’s not the fact there are crowds and people want to keep everything locked down forever.
It’s the fact that there are so many other restrictions elsewhere - loads of events are still cancelled, most businesses are loosing loads of money due to social distancing rules, schools are wearing masks and have cancelled all trips and most normal sports days and their last days and proms are completely different than normal, half of my school is currently isolating and I know of 2 schools that have closed completely, only 16 people can attend a funeral and there’s no singing allowed, weddings also have a maximum guest allowance and hundreds of other things - but this football game can literally have thousands of people mixing which isn’t fair.
If you’re going to relax the rules for a football match then they need to relax the rules for other things too.

user1487194234 · 29/06/2021 21:03

Yes all rules should be relaxed
People who are concerned can stay home
Enough is enough

Er no, that's exactly the point. Gradual re-opening means opening some things day by day, week by week. It isn't just football that's benefitted. That's the point.
AbsolutelyPatsy · 29/06/2021 21:05

the virus is on the increase but as long as those at risk are safe, should be ok

Fuck social distancing in London. No point now. 40,000 people. Why do we have to social distance tomorrow? No-one bothered today at Wembley.

Yes I will have a good time tomorrow seeing my lovely relative finally get married (at last). But if I try to hug or kiss them I will be considered odd. yet i could have been at Wembley today with who knows what. And that doesn't matter because (mostly) it is the male national game.

HelplessProcrastinator · 29/06/2021 21:08

Why football first though? Oh yes ££££££

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 29/06/2021 21:09

Lots of misunderstanding about the Event Research Programme on this thread.

It’s a negative lateral flow test done at home, not a PCR done at a test centre. There has been zero follow up from NHS to DH who attended one of the phase two test events to tell him to get a test after the event.

Here’s the info for those attending the euro matches:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/information-for-ticket-holders-attending-the-euro-2020-events-research-programme-matches/information-for-ticket-holders-attending-the-euro-2020-events-research-programme-matches

No mention of post-attendance testing at all from what I can see.

Football wasn't first.

(and even if it was yes ££££ is important)

Bryonyshcmyony · 29/06/2021 21:11

Ugh. What a load of rubbish on this thread.

Hug your cousin if you want to! Literally who cares. Your wedding is totally irrelevant to me and all the hundreds of thousands of football fans who had a great day today.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 29/06/2021 21:13

@HelplessProcrastinator

SofiaMichelle · 29/06/2021 21:13

This should never have been allowed to happen.

🤣

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 29/06/2021 21:14

(The pre and post attendance PCRs are voluntary. Can’t help but think it would be worth incentivising take up of those to improve the quality of the data)

thankyou ginger

yes i know we're supposed to come out of this in 3 weeks time but as these were put forward as test events i think they shouldnt be done half arsed

There was 40,000 people there! That’s not a gradual re-opening!
But schools and nurseries are still closing and things like London carnival is cancelled.
I’m all for the gradual re-opening of things but it seems unfair and that a lot of people who have been Impacted the most are still the worst off.

superduster · 29/06/2021 21:20

Its not being run just like a normal event though - they are taking over 2 hours to fill the stadium and giving people slots of when to arrive. I don't think its a great idea but its a capacity of 90k so still less than half full.

Or maybe because people love it!! Its a brilliant mood booster and just what people need!!

I mean yeah £££ too though.

Yes it was as there were less people at previous games.

Do I need to type slower?

What is the point of doing all that if they don't then require the people attending to take tests after the event. I thought the whole point was to see if there was a wider spread of the virus after the event too.
