40,000 Fans and No Masks

353 replies

DadAManger · 29/06/2021 18:44

Watching the football. Yes, I like the football.

But WTF, no masks (literally not one mask) and hugging and kissing like it’s a San Francisco in 1980.

This pandemic is over then? My kids aren’t being sent home from school again, I can spend time sitting with my grandmother at home? I know I will be told ‘life has to go on as normal’. I think I have lost my mind - I just don’t understand anymore.

OP posts:

It was bloody lovely to see. The more this type of thing happens, the harder it'll be for the isolation of entire school bubbles and all of that malarkey to continue.
It did my soul good to see all of those people having the time of their lives.

ineedaholidaynow · 29/06/2021 20:25

@whynotwhatknot I’m assuming it must be quite well ventilated

Sparklingbrook · 29/06/2021 20:27

@TSSDNCOP

What's the vax rate looking like now in Germany I wonder *@Sparklingbrook*
About 50% of adults have been vaccinated in Germany I think.
Parky04 · 29/06/2021 20:27

Fuck off with your negativity. It's over and it's coming home!

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 29/06/2021 20:30

@Hyacinth88

They need to accept this is the norm and let everything go back to normal
There's a cohort of posters on here for whom that is their worst nightmare

How will they depress themselves, what will they have in their lives to constantly moan and endlessly imagine doomsday scenarios about?

User135644 · 29/06/2021 20:30

@RichardMarxisinnocent

Read Steve Reicher's Twitter about the outsides and tests I would if I could find a Steve Reicher on twitter. I've found a Steve Reichert, 3 Steven Reicherts and one Steven Reiche but none seem to be experts in anything to do with the spread of covid, and aren't tweeting about it either. Do you have a link to the account you're talking about please?

Completely agree OP. I ditched my mask the day the Hancock story broke.

Assuming that the science is right and that masks do provide an element of protection to others why would Matt Hancock's behaviour make you not want to afford that protection?

Eiether you believe they work or you don't, why is your stance influenced by someone you clearly despise?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 29/06/2021 20:33

I think I have found him, Stephen Reicher? Seems to be a psychologist who tweets a lots. Have scrolls through a fair few tweets and haven't seen anything about outside spread.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 29/06/2021 20:33

So jealous. Wish I could have gone. We have to learn to live with COVID-19 now.

TSSDNCOP · 29/06/2021 20:34

The centre court roof is 52 feet up and...

Court (Centre) - roof stats

  • 8 litres per second of fresh air per person pumped into the bowl to manage the environment
Tiari · 29/06/2021 20:35

I don't understand it either OP. Watched Wimbledon today and it was packed !!
No social distancing, no masks?
HmmConfused

Quaggars · 29/06/2021 20:37

I think it's great, I've been sticking to the rules all the way through and still am, I think this is great though and I can't stand football lol
It just seems like some semblance of normalcy coming back, but under rules (think they're all tested first or something?)

@MagicSummer

What on earth is a year 6 celebration?
Not sure if anyone's answered you yet, but basically at the end of year 6 they usually have a little prom (ours did anyway) whatever happened to good old leavers discos lol

Quaggars · 29/06/2021 20:38

Year 6 being age 11 I forgot to add

Tiari · 29/06/2021 20:38

It's like living in a parallel universe!!!!

whynotwhatknot · 29/06/2021 20:38

Thank you. I did see that tweet. He obviously has issues with the events research programme is being but I didn't see anything about spread of covid outside? I'm not overly experienced at twottee though so might have missed it.

Coldwine75 · 29/06/2021 20:41

HATE football too and is is SOOOOOOOOOO wrong 40,000 fans and no masks....................

spongedog · 29/06/2021 20:44

I saw this and for the 1st time in 15 months - thought fuck it. I am off to a wedding tomorrow - all carefully socially distanced. Just why do normal people have to comply, when the "national game" doesnt. No thanks. I'm double vacc'd - I'm OK. (And thank you Matt Hancock - you had the worst job in govt last year. Yes you should have been sacked - not for breaking social distancing rules but for being yet another fucking married man who thought they could fuck who they chose. Really hope wife takes you to the cleaners. But regarding the job you perhaps did OK).

Doyoumind · 29/06/2021 20:46

Do the people on this thread (and all the other similar threads) not understand that in 3 weeks' time, as the plan stands, restrictions will be lifted? It's not as if we're bang in the middle of a total lockdown and some people are being allowed to mix in large crowds.

Restrictions are being lifted and these events are part of that. They involve adults. Keeping other measures in place until the school holidays means more children can carry on learning without disruption until the end if term and more adults can be fully vaccinated before we return to normal.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 29/06/2021 20:46

My brother is at Wembley - it was a lateral flow submitted 2 days before so not PCR.
And passport numbers on booking. I don't know how much checking was done through to ensure right people attended.
I have mixed feelings - it's great to see live football with a crowd again! And we won.
But we can't go to the kids sports day ..

User135644 · 29/06/2021 20:47

This should never have been allowed to happen.
Chloemol · 29/06/2021 20:48

If it’s Wembley they have to show proof of double vaccination or negative proper Covid test. Same for Wimbledon

The Government has announced that senior executives can temporarily leave quarantine in England if they are undertaking business activities which will bring 'significant economic benefit' to the economy.

This. I've been a spectator on Centre Court quite a few times (mostly via the queue) and have been there when the roof has been closed as well as open, and unless you can actually see the roof (and from many seats you can't) you wouldn't actually know it was closed as it still feels as if you're outdoors.
