40,000 Fans and No Masks

Watching the football. Yes, I like the football.

But WTF, no masks (literally not one mask) and hugging and kissing like it’s a San Francisco in 1980.

This pandemic is over then? My kids aren’t being sent home from school again, I can spend time sitting with my grandmother at home? I know I will be told ‘life has to go on as normal’. I think I have lost my mind - I just don’t understand anymore.

They need to accept this is the norm and let everything go back to normal

As far as I know (and I’ve been to Wembley twice in the last ten days so have regular updates from UEFA), this was not a test event, and there is no requirement for reporting results in advance or to report anything afterwards.

I stated on the last post about how even though the stewards tried their best to enforce mask wearing very few actually did and it didn’t matter because there were crowds of people all bunched together mostly without masks at the tube after the games.

The only requirement was either to be vaccinated or have a negative lateral flow but I saw someone just submit a number off an unused test on the way there so not everyone is taking that seriously and to be honest the checks were minimal in that you could have used anyone’s vaccine details because they didn’t check them against the names on the tickets nor did any ID get asked for. It was all a bit keeping up appearances.

It’s not a test event. Negative test needed within 48hrs of doors opening and masks worn until in the stands, as then they’re outside. Tickets have entry times to arrive at the stadium. No need to test after the event

Im pleased for them. If tens of thousamds of fans can shout and sing at the football, i am going to take off my stupid mask and join in with the hymns at church on Sunday.

It'd be easier to get 20,000 into Wembley and have a game of bowls or something as a test event, with a more respectable audience.

What does football stand for? Do you hate all the community projects almost all football clubs run? For disadvantaged children, for those with poor mental health, for people who are socially isolated, to encourage girls and women into sport, the projects to reduce obesity, education for excluded children, for being community hubs? Are they all hateful?

I watched some Golf today (not on purpose obviously)DS was flicking the channels. The spectators appeared to be socially distanced and wearing masks outside but none of the players/caddies/officials were. That was in Germany.

Funny that there’s loads of people at Wimbledon but no moaning about that, just the usual snobbery towards football, the nation’s favourite sport. As for the men nonsense, those of us females who aren’t bound by old fashioned stereotypes actually enjoy it too. My daughter and her girlfriends were at a pub watching it. What a shocker. And bore off with the drunk louts nonsense and go and watch a nice costume drama.

Are they all hateful? damn right if a single MNer doesn't like it.

Yeah I don't see how my classroom with the Windows and doors open and 30 kids singing is massively higher risk than thousands of fans singing huddled together.

@Unsure33 yes you do have to do a test and this is checked but I’m saying it’s very easy to either fake a lateral flow test result by just reporting the code as negative or logging in to anyone’s NHS app as they don’t check the name against tickets or ID (which they don’t ask for at all).

i will add to this aswell the roof was closed last night at wimbledon so al indoors no masks
