40,000 Fans and No Masks

DadAManger · 29/06/2021 18:44

Watching the football. Yes, I like the football.

But WTF, no masks (literally not one mask) and hugging and kissing like it’s a San Francisco in 1980.

This pandemic is over then? My kids aren’t being sent home from school again, I can spend time sitting with my grandmother at home? I know I will be told ‘life has to go on as normal’. I think I have lost my mind - I just don’t understand anymore.

Large events like this are all providing data and evidence needed to support a full unlocking. So it's good that they're trying things. Personally I like seeing stuff like this!

If they are not requiring people to do tests after these events, what evidence exactly are they gathering?

cyclingmad · 29/06/2021 22:18

Because if your a leader and asking people to follow the guidelines should are setting you should lead by example. Thats what great leaders do.

And after 18 months and being told vaccination is a way to our freedom its really galling for the goalposts to be continually moved whilst the ones setting them think they don't have to follow them.

Its a case of I can do what the f* i like but you can't. Well two fingers up to that.

Sparklingbrook · 29/06/2021 22:20

MH was clearly not a great leader. So people can see that and set their own good example. 🤷‍♀️

theliverpoolone · 29/06/2021 22:27

YABU, it is outdoors geez

My work event was outdoors but everyone still had to bubble in groups of less than 30. I'd be fine about the football crowd, if the same freedoms were allowed to the rest of us.

Piccalino3 · 29/06/2021 22:27

This is giving me the rage tonight. My 4 year old can't go into see her classroom and meet her teacher before she starts school, my 7 year old can't have a parent to cheer her on at sports day and my 2 year old can't have the bouncy castle birthday party which I booked for his 1st birthday when he was 6 months old, we live in fear from an email or phone call from school or nursery which puts the kids into isolation, but 40,000 people can cram into a football stadium to watch the fucking football. They really are laughing at us and I am done with it.

Justanotherlurker · 29/06/2021 22:29

i really dont understand people quoting Hancock,
his exploits have made no difference to me, nor should they anyone else

It is trying to shoe horn their obvious anti tory bias into the topic, (he does deserve to go) whilst ignoring th fact the tories have there scapegoat with Hancock and can now lift restrictions, the anti tory crowd are just repeating what they have seen gained the most likes on twitter so just repeating it without really understanding it.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 29/06/2021 22:33

But these aren’t restrictions being enforced by the government. They’re local decisions being made by the school. You could have a party of up to 30 outside?

Schools sports day are an independant issue for the schools, it isn't the government imposing restrictions, there was many threads on here from teachers about the 'dangers of their' profession and they should have protection, with the activism from unions and backing from MN the government gave schools the leeway they wanted, this isn't some evil tory conspiracy some like to portray, some people are very quick to forget what MN was like last september when schools opened or even when schools reopened in march, the government needs to start somewhere with the re-opening

Piccalino3 · 29/06/2021 22:49

I didn't want schools to close and I don't think they should have, especially in January but that's another matter. As for it's not the governments decision well really? Schools have made these decisions on the basis of advice given to them - whether it's the local council, PHE or whoever. Almost half a million children isolating and it's ok to have 40,000 football fans together? Give me a break.

Actually I can't have a party outside as I paid for big bouncy castle hire over a year and a half ago and I have a small garden.

Do you seriously think that 'starting somewhere' with reopening is 40,000 fans at a non essential event when so many people have missed out and are still missing out on life events? Can't sing at a bloody wedding but it's ok at the football, of course!

toocold54 · 29/06/2021 22:51

Why do you think you can only have 16 people at a funeral? What do you think the maximum attendance is at weddings?

Actually there are no limits on numbers for either, as long as social distancing is possible. I'm not sure where you're getting your information from, but it's incorrect.

@TheRosesOfSuccess is this the first time you’ve been on MN? There are threads literally everyday complaining about the max. numbers allowed at weddings and funerals. And of course all over the news.
I attended a couple of funerals all of which allowed 15/16 people inside socially distanced and 15/16 outside listening on speakers.

No, I've been here for years actually. But I can read the government rules. There are no rules saying you can only have 16 people at a funeral. I mean people say all sorts of stuff on here, but that doesn't make it actually true. There is no guidance or legislation stating that only 16 people are allowed at funerals. I've no idea why you would say that.
Moutarde · 29/06/2021 23:38

@Ponoka7

"It's a trial event."

It isn't. We had concerts and festivals as trial events. I agree with it going ahead, but this has gone ahead to please the men, because we can't have them miss out.

Any evidence for this?

Or do just men like football?

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 30/06/2021 00:30

@beigebrownblue

It's because the majority of footballers are MEN. Don't you get it?

Shitting on us women, mothers, holding it all together, day after day, looking after kids at school, whilst said MEN get to group together and go and watch the footie.

Boris, Eton boys in their case rugby.

Plain as day.

Fucking discrimination.

This is how I feel.
ineedaholidaynow · 30/06/2021 00:38

What about Wimbledon, many women watch that? Ladies Day at Royal Ascot?

That’s fucked me off even more.

All in this together my arse.

Rosebel · 30/06/2021 01:00

Masks work for about 14 minutes and they were all outside.
I mean I hate football and was more concerned about social distancing but we should get rid of masks anyway.

Quaggars · 30/06/2021 01:05

Because if your a leader and asking people to follow the guidelines should are setting you should lead by example.

I agree with this. Can't do one thing yourself but then expect everyone else to do something totally different.

But they are not providing data. AT ALL. You really would have to be stupid to think that.

I am a data manager. They need to collect data (from the 40k population), then more data post-event, and then analyse it. It is fake - this is not a test event - there is no tracking of data from this event.

MrsFezziwig · 30/06/2021 01:51

I went to a funeral last week - 46 people allowed inside @toocold54. Went to another recently - family groups in the chapel socially distanced until it was full, everyone else outside. If you’re taking what you’re reading on Mumsnet as gospel no wonder you’re confused.

Pinkandwrinkly · 30/06/2021 02:31

I think they all had to have proof of recent negative testing. Temp checks etc on way in etc. At least that's what happened for the last games of the season in Premier League.
Plus loads of extra staff to oversee it all.

Pinkandwrinkly · 30/06/2021 02:42

Women's Football Euros next year!!!

Lilibet2022 · 30/06/2021 05:47

I think the rules are similar to Wimbledon. Negative test or double jabbed to enter.

So the primary school and bouncy castle people are choosing not to follow government advice and are deciding to still restrict things.

Taster days at my sons school are going ahead for new reception starters, I’ll be at sports day, my sons birthday party went ahead as planned on Saturday.

Yep, the school and party company are laughing at you.

I agree that leaders should lead by example but the public should not be thick and do it too if they break the rules. Adults have to take responsibility for their own actions ultimately regardless of what anyone else is doing.
