I thought I had a forgotten about tampon “lost” within me, Googled and apparently it can’t get lost.

Husband tried to remove it (was really romantic 😳) and I eventually removed it except it wasn’t a tampon, I have accidentally removed my Mirena 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈.

I am waiting for 111 to call me back, I feel like such an idiot🙈🙈.

Snort!!!

Well, I guess it saves you an appointment to remove the Minerva

Gotta love how close you and your DH are! Love that he went up there to remove what he thought was an old tampon. You are relationship goals GrinGrin

Thank-you for sharing what is actually a very sweet loving story xx 💕💕💕

Nam3chang3r31 · 28/06/2021 19:02

@Besswess88 that's what I thought! The sceptic in me thinks it was because I was an insured private patient. I hope it was just caution, I'd had unexpected bleeding, which was actually caused by the coil, but we didn't know that then.
@RugratMum I had a scan after and the consultant remarked that she wondered where the coil had gone, she seemed quite amused 😆

peppermintpat · 28/06/2021 19:04

I had a Mirena work it's way out, had another one put in and got BV.

popmimiboo · 28/06/2021 19:10

Do get checked out. I had TSS after having a mirena replaced (by a qualified gynecologist!) It quickly developed into sepsis and I’m lucky to be here to tell the tale.
Super rare and I’m not wanting to scare you but I feel compelled to comment. If you develop any symptoms (-headache, d&v, fever, joint pain,) seek urgent medical attention!

Babygotblueyes · 28/06/2021 19:13

Always thought they came out way easier than they went in!

Harls1969 · 28/06/2021 19:17

Omg that made my toes curl. Then I read the one about the cornea and have sensibly decided to read no further. Fucking hell

Conchitastrawberry · 28/06/2021 19:21

Yes I removed my Mirena. It’s a long story and I did intend to remove it but was gobsmacked at how easy it came out.

Wide · 28/06/2021 19:24

Omg this is making me feel so funny!!!! 😩😩😩

Butteredtoast55 · 28/06/2021 19:28

This thread is horrifying!

BringBackThinEyebrows · 28/06/2021 19:35

I deliberately removed my mirena coil at home. The coil gave me awful side effects and my GP didn't want it removed so it was my only option.

It was painless and I felt fine afterwards.

supperlover · 28/06/2021 19:56

Nobody seems to have mentioned Toxic Shock Syndrome. If you haven't heard of it look it up. If you're going to use tampons be careful not to leave them inserted for too long.

supperlover · 28/06/2021 19:58

Oops, sorry it has been mentioned but no harm in mentioning again. It can be very serious.

modgepodge · 28/06/2021 20:14
@modgepodge i heaved reading that! Was she ok? That's horrendous!

@Bingowingslikeashieldofsteel - I've done that before. It was v dry and uncomfortable. I don't pull my tampon strings down and whilst I've never lost one (yet) I occasionally miss and pinch myself, which hurts!

Once forgot to remove a v mini one (end of period, barely anything there anyway) before sex and my poor then bf was a bit confused by how dry & overly tight it felt and stopped v quickly. He was v gracious about the "rope burn" on his penis! Blush
Yes she was fine as far as I recall - given eye drops and a Lecture about not getting so bloody drunk in future 😂

FlaminEckVera · 28/06/2021 20:22

This thread is making me squibbly too. Confused

Mirenas, lost tampons, pulling up corneas. 😲

But I can't stop reading the thread. #sendhelp

FlaminEckVera · 28/06/2021 20:25

@CryptoFascist

Yes I've done this! Pulled out a tampon, thought it hurt more than usual, then noticed I was holding my coil as well as my tampon. Strings must have got caught up together. It was quite a shock! I made an appointment and got another fitted.
YIKES !!! 😲

Love your username! Is that from Red Dwarf?? Smile

Suzi888 · 28/06/2021 20:27

faints
I hope you are ok OP, but good lord didn’t that hurt!

RightYesButNo · 28/06/2021 20:34

ABOUT COIL REMOVAL:
There is no specialist tool, if anyone is imagining that. The thing your gynaecologist uses is just to reach and pull the strings. Then the arms are (supposed) to retract on their own and it just comes out.

www.healthline.com/health/iud-removal#removing-an-iud

There’s even a page about how to remove it on your own if necessary, though they recommend a health professional.
www.healthline.com/health/birth-control/iud-removal-at-home

But as it says, they’re made to come out easily (I’m VERY aware they don’t for everyone). If you try to remove it yourself, and it doesn’t just come out, stop immediately.

Livingonthedarkside · 28/06/2021 20:59

I had one fitted once lasted 6 months and returned to hospital for the nurse to take a look, scan ended with, we need to remove this and congratulations your pregnant. Second time round dr wanted to try again and backed it up with the pill till he was 100% sure it was going to work, nope my body started to push it out 🤷‍♀️

daisyjgrey · 28/06/2021 21:23

@Besswess88

No I removed it 🤣🤣

I am on the waiting list for removal as DH has had a vasectomy.

Well at least you've saved yourself an appointment.
Jericha · 28/06/2021 21:35

Don't read this if squeamish!!

This is really embarrassing but I did similar two weeks ago. I thought I could feel it, so I got tweezers and was pulling something out. There was a lot of blood but it was the first day of my period so just thought it was blood behind the tampon. Despite squatting, Vaseline and tweezers I couldn't do it so I went to minor injuries. There was no tampon, however my vaginal wall was quite rough and sore looking where I'd apparently being trying to pull it out of my body. Urghhh.

@RugratMum

I once did this with a contact lens and pulled up part of my cornea.

Wegobshite · 28/06/2021 21:48

I took mine out years ago
DH kept saying he could feel something 😂😂 I’m like you ain’t that big mate 😂
But it had moved somehow and I was able to remove it myself
Pretty much in the same way as I would
remove a tampon
The nurse at my doctors was adamant that I couldn’t possibly have removed it myself until I plonked it down on her table 😂😂
Didn’t bother getting another one

I did! 🙂
TheBigFatMermaid · 28/06/2021 22:07

I used to use lilets without pulling down the strings and always managed to get them out OK..

I am post menopause now, but in the early days of this, I had a bit of spotting, put my moon cup in.....

3 weeks later, I realised it wasn't in the place I kept it. I accused my DD of moving it (she does move/take things a lot)....

Another few days... oh yeah... its up there! 😂🤣
