I thought I had a forgotten about tampon “lost” within me, Googled and apparently it can’t get lost.

Husband tried to remove it (was really romantic 😳) and I eventually removed it except it wasn’t a tampon, I have accidentally removed my Mirena 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈.

I am waiting for 111 to call me back, I feel like such an idiot🙈🙈.

Years ago, one popped out about a week after my period finished, I had forgotten about it and been inserting others in on top, thank goodness I didn't get an infection.

duffmcstockings · 27/06/2021 23:34

To be fair, less embarrassing than birthing a three week old tampon in the toilets of IKEA. Which never happened to me BlushBlushHmm

Wineiscooling · 27/06/2021 23:41

Yep! Done this ! I had a horrific smell from down below 🤢 went to Dr for swabs, got put on antibiotics....it was only when the swab came back clear my memory started to come back....I'd had a really drunkard night out a couple of weeks back......I'm not even sure how I remembered but I worked out I'd inserted a tampon without taking the previous out so just pushed old one up there 🤢 it took me a while but I did find it and get it out !

Holothane · 27/06/2021 23:45

Cornea ouch ouch just winches at the thought and I’ve had no end of stitches in my eye.

TableFlowerss · 28/06/2021 00:54

Last night. I went out with mates on the drink and couldn’t remember removing my tampon so was surprised when I went to change it, there was nothing there…

So had to put another one up…

Hope I was right and that I had taken it out, otherwise there’s one stuck up there now 🤮🤮

Stichintime · 28/06/2021 01:02

When I was a teenager I had terrible pins and needles in my fanny and the end of a condom shot out.

Trudij123 · 28/06/2021 01:07

I’ve done the contact lens thing too - it’s really not fun, don’t recommend.

Last year I made the mistake of using keggel balls because my then partner thought it would be great - the chord went up inside as well and no amount of his rummaging about could find it - not the nurse at the doctors, so I spent the afternoon in A&E waiting to go up to the gynae ward where tHe lady got it out in a few seconds. Presumably all the various people rummaging about, coupled with me walking around sorted it 🙄🙄🙄 an entire day wasted on something that made no difference to how bad the sex was… 🤦‍♀️😂

me4real · 28/06/2021 01:08

Ow OP, I hope you're not uncomfortable.

I'm sure it's come out in one piece but suppose you could book an emergency appt with your GP tomorrow if you need your mind put at rest.

Yes, I saw one I had removed once, they are small.

RugratMum · 28/06/2021 07:26

@Pandoraslastchance

OK, thats enough mumsnet for tonight. I've never been able to feel my iud strings but then I've got short fingers.
Don't you get worried that it might have shifted or come out and you'd not know? I've read too many stories about people getting pregnant on IUDs to be that relaxed about them!

Have you tried straight-backed and with two fingers rather than one? And go all the way around not just straight up- sometimes the cervix is off-centre.

Spaceprincess · 28/06/2021 08:14

Ah you'll be fine .
My ex accidentally removed mine during um 'enthusatic foreplay '

SpiderinaWingMirror · 28/06/2021 08:17

Mine self expelled!

Biancadelrioisback · 28/06/2021 08:19

@Hallyup6 it is very easy to lose a tampon.
If I throw my keys in my bag and then when I need them, rummage around my bag and can't find them, I say I've 'lost' my keys. They aren't actually lost, as in missing never to be found again, but they are lost in my bag. Same with tampon. I 'lost' one, it was lying length ways against the entrance to my cervix. I had tried to 'explore' to see if I had a forgotten tampon up there but couldn't feel anything for about a week before I finally managed to pull it out. Piece. By. Piece.
I ended up having to have gauze inserted by the drs because of the claw marks from my trying to get it out.

CryptoFascist · 28/06/2021 08:38

Yes I've done this! Pulled out a tampon, thought it hurt more than usual, then noticed I was holding my coil as well as my tampon. Strings must have got caught up together. It was quite a shock! I made an appointment and got another fitted.

Mummabear89 · 28/06/2021 17:33

Mine fell out about 7 days after it was fitted. Was the most painful thing I have ever been through as it was constantly stabbing me from the moment it was fitted until it fell out. Never ever getting the coil again. Despite this they won't give me a hysterectomy even though I have an inherited condition that will give me cancer in any place that is a cavity. I feel for you OP

Cakeandcoffeea · 28/06/2021 17:46

I took mine out on purpose as dr wouldn’t remove it. The arms are flexible so didn’t hurts at all lol. Everything was sanitised so all ok

Biffbaff · 28/06/2021 17:55

Yes what is that pp on about, of course there is somewhere for the tampon to get lost - like the area beyond your vagina, which is hard to reach? Duh?

CherryRipe1 · 28/06/2021 18:01

Yeowch! OMG that made me cringe. Did you get any cramps??
I "lost" a tampon once, had BP off the scale & they worried I had toxic shock syndrome. Scan revealed nothing there as I'd removed it & forgotten (psychosomatic!)

NeedNewKnees · 28/06/2021 18:11

I've 'lost' a tampon 3 times in my life. One was up there 5 days - I was on a day out with my son and after my period was over and it came out in the loos at the London Eye.

Just lucky I didn't get an infection!

CookL · 28/06/2021 18:18

I fell pregnant with a mirina in situ. Then miscarried. I had no idea. Just thought it was a heavy painful period with blood clots. Reported it to my gp. Sent me to be scanned - no sign of the mirina - they assumed it came out on the toilet in a large clot and got flushed away 😳😳. Never had another.

Nam3chang3r31 · 28/06/2021 18:20

I removed my own coil too, I just grabbed the strings, coughed and pulled, didn't feel a thing! I felt I had no choice, I was seeing a gynaecologist who had insisted I have it taken out under anaesthetic. I was petrified of having an anaesthetic, having never had one before and thought sod that!

RugratMum · 28/06/2021 18:24

What did the gynaecologist say when they realised you'd DIY'd it?
Besswess88 · 28/06/2021 18:24

An anaesthetic?! To remove a bloody coil? 🤣🤣🤣

Flossatops · 28/06/2021 18:26

Sorry, but this made me laugh😁
I have heard of a few people removing coils themselves - I think it's easier for some than others, depending on position of your cervix.

The doctor I saw couldn't even access mine to insert a Mirena.

BlackSwan · 28/06/2021 18:50

Here's a reason to look forward to menopause.

ancientgran · 28/06/2021 18:54

@Verbena87

Oh Jesus, did it not hurt?!? Crossing my legs just thinking about it!
And me.
