Because my 20 year old ds is getting one tomorrow and I can't talk him.out of it.
Opinions pls.

OP posts:
faithfulbird20 · 26/06/2021 06:35

I don't like them. I don't like them on women too.

StuffinThePuffin · 26/06/2021 06:57

Who cares? He's 20, leave him alone. It's up to him what he does with his own body and it's weird and overbearing to try and "talk him out of it".

LST · 26/06/2021 07:13

Not naff in the slightest. I've had my nose ring since I was 13.

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest if Ds asked for his done. Obviously he won't be able to have it done as young as I did with schools now

LST · 26/06/2021 07:14

@1forAll74

Not much you can do about this, but they do look a bit naff on everyone. I saw a guy the other day, he had a large ring piercing in his nose,and two ring piercings,one at each end of his outer eyebrows.And he had some kind of gold longish earrings that looked a bit like a snake design.
And it bothered you why?
LST · 26/06/2021 07:15

@PattyPan

I’m 26 and think nose piercings look awful on men and white people in general. The only time I see them looking alright is on Asian women.
Jesus Christ.
doadeer · 26/06/2021 07:19

I really like them. My DH wants one and he is early 30s, he looks good in everything.

Let him do what he wants! Would you expect him to dictate what colour you dye your hair?!

LST · 26/06/2021 07:19

@DroopyClematis

They're naff, unless for cultural reasons. Which is why they're naff... cultural appropriation.
Oh do one. Ffs
doadeer · 26/06/2021 07:22

I think they look great

Ooooh many a judgy person on this thread! OP, does it matter? It will make him happy so why not?

Dollywilde · 26/06/2021 07:30

From a parenting perspective, I can’t find it in myself to get upset about something that’s essentially reversible.

From a taste perspective, my kids can look as daft as they like without me interfering and you get zero say in what another adult chooses to look like, so that’s a non-starter too.

For me - they suit some, they don’t suit others. So impossible to say if I’d like it on your DS without knowing him. But yeah, I don’t think you get a say in this either way. Tattoo or plugs, I’d step in as a parent and ask if they’re absolutely sure given the permanence. But this is more akin to dying hair!

HowManyToes · 26/06/2021 07:30

@Clappingforjoy

Thought it was too feminine
🙄
DrinkFeckArseGirls · 26/06/2021 07:33

I was going to agree with you, OP, but too feminine? What I’d be focusing on what happens when he gets a cold and has to blow his nose?! Confused

You.. blow your nose? Are you really confused over that?
WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 26/06/2021 07:46

@WildRosie

I thought only bulls had rings in their noses.
My grandad used to say this 🤣🤣

The OP did ask. It's hard to give opinions on anything without using some sort of judgement.

My opinion is very negative, but the seriously misguided bloke thinks it'll suit him.

ContinuousMonotoneBeep · 26/06/2021 08:55

It suits some people and o others a pierced nose looks ridiculous. Depends on their style, attitude and looks really.

OK if he's like the aforementioned Lenny Kravitz or like Tommy Lee. Probably look out of place if he's like David Cameron or Laurence Fox.

Not sure what to make of the 'feminine' comment.

...he'll blow his nose, surely?

They don't block the entire nostril.

Ninkanink · 26/06/2021 09:27

Should I add here that I used to have a nose ring? And other body piercings?

It’s not a judgey thing. I just don’t like them on men. I’m well aware that plenty of people don’t like them on women. So what? They’re allowed to not like what I (used to) wear!

But he’s a kid, he’s supposed to be doing things like getting piercings.

PurpleyBlue · 26/06/2021 09:32

He can do what he wants with his nose. This is just pure sexism.

PrincessNymeria · 26/06/2021 13:27

I'm 29 and would find it sexy. I like unusual piercings on a bloke.

MorriseysGladioli · 26/06/2021 13:48

I like them, but on older men. Smile

Confusedandshaken · 26/06/2021 14:02

I' m not a fan of nose piercings but am bemused by them being too feminine for a man. Too feminine for what?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 27/06/2021 16:26

I mean the snot must stay on the part of the ring inside the nostril 🤢

laudete · 27/06/2021 17:08

Well, it's his choice... I'd suggest an eyebrow piercing though - if he wants to look "insert attractive/youth/hip adjective here" I think that would be nicer.

Skysblue · 27/06/2021 17:40

Yes but don’t worry when he changes his mind the hole will heal and only leave a tiny dot.
