Looks like we might need a new thread.

@thedarkling

As a side point - I do like Mrs Hancock's dress in the pictures this morning.
It's not Oliver Bonas...

Naturally Cons spokespersons are playing this down - any more by-elections coming up, a few more Amersham and Chesham results might change there arrogant attitude.
Batley and Spen on 1st July. The narrative their is that is is a part of the red wall, but only just. Will this have an impact?
Blossomtoes · 26/06/2021 10:41

It was from a covert camera hidden within the smoke alarm in his office

Was it? What evidence is there of that?

Clavinova · 26/06/2021 10:44

I think it is important to remember that this is a government that took schools to court for trying to keep their pupils and staff safe.

And what did Keir Starmer say?

14 December 2020
Starmer urges leaders to try to keep schools open as Khan backs early closure...

Sir Keir told his LBC radio phone-in: “I’m very reluctant to close our schools down...

Asked what he would say to the London mayor, the Labour leader said: “Talk to the Health Secretary about what we can do this week to keep schools open, try to keep them open this week.”

@looptheloopinahulahoop

If you're given a job that you know you're completely incapable of, and that job involves decision making that directly impacts whether thousands of people live or die, yet you refuse to resign, what does that make you? Maybe not evil, but definitely arrogant

Well that applies to more or less the entire Cabinet. Promoted way beyond their abilities "to get Brexit done" and not reshuffled to sort out covid. I don't see any reason to single out Matt Hancock just because he had extra-marital sex. Fed up with all the hypocrisy, I very much doubt everyone shouting the odds over this have followed all the rules all of the time.

Did the people shouting the odds make the rules?
Ramekin · 26/06/2021 10:45

If it is a set-up, it's Hancock who has been set up.
You don't smile like that when you don't mean it.

She's in the room already and seems like she's waiting for him- has she messaged him to come and meet her there?

She comes towards him to just the perfect place for the camera.

He possibly tries to move her elsewhere in the room, and she resists and tries to stay in the same spot- cue weird dance moves.

But I don't see how it benefits her.

Maybe she just was worried someone could come in at any moment, so holding him at bay.

StarryStarrySocks · 26/06/2021 10:48

Ken Clarke doesn't have Twitter - that's a parody account.

StarryStarrySocks · 26/06/2021 10:49

Oops that was meant to be a quote post!

I was also admiring MH’s wife’s style in the pics of her. She looks really creative and interesting alongside him looking very dull in a lot of pics.

Figmentofmyimagination · 26/06/2021 10:52

I’m more interested in understanding what qualifications she had to be a non exec director at the department of health - apart from student radio, being hancock’s Uni chum at oxford and being married to someone very wealthy.

Shame for him that the press are ‘all over it like a tramp on chips’ again. Utterly vile, venal man, with form for handing out patronage to his friends. It’s like something from the 15th century.

This is a man whose only claim to work experience is at his mum and dad’s direct mail business - shrink wrapping all the free junk that comes through your letter box. He always was an over-promoted twat.

Maggiesfarm · 26/06/2021 10:53

I've only just read about this. Is or was Matt Hancock having an affair or was it just a stupid kiss?

There are calls for him to resign but Boris has had affairs and nobody batted an eyelid.

As for breaking social distancing guidelines, the chances are they are both vaccinated.

Is it?! I thought it was him and have been quite impressed with his sarky remarks! Blush

He only had his first dose at the end of April and this was definitely going on in early May about a week later.

There's various evidence that this wasn't a one off.

It's not about the affair, it's about the hypocrisy of telling the country to behave a certain way and doing the complete opposite himself.

Maggiesfarm · 26/06/2021 10:56

I see that.

LizzieSiddal · 26/06/2021 10:59

Before I saw it I’d imagined it would be off the other side of a room or something but it’s like “snog me here, under this camera”

If they’d moved away from the camera, they’d have had to move away from the door which would mean someone could walk in. I think they were only thinking of the door rather than the camera.
And the reason the camera is pointing at the door is so security can see who’s coming in and out. (Ow er misses)

LarkDescending · 26/06/2021 11:00

@Blossomtoes

Same question from me.

According to The Guardian it was a photograph of a CCTV image, they think they know who leaked it, and there isn’t going to be a leak inquiry.

Blossomtoes · 26/06/2021 11:01

You don’t need any qualifications to be a NED in the NHS. I worked with some absolute shockers during the 20 odd years I worked in health, it’s always been jobs for the girls and boys.

I think it’s scraping the barrel to say it’s a set up. What would those of you saying that think if someone sent you similar footage of your husband? I bet set up would be the last thing you’d think.

LouLou198 · 26/06/2021 11:05

Just made the mistake of watching the video. I feel like Phoebe in that episode of friends "MY EYES!! MY EYES!!"

Peregrina · 26/06/2021 11:06

The Guardian article is interesting. It sounds as though Downing Street is desperately trying to squash the story, but the moving images have already appeared. Expect to see some junior resign or get shuffled sideways, if they daren't risk a sacking.

PinkTonic · 26/06/2021 11:06

I want to know how the footage was obtained. Was the office of a government minister bugged? It’s not believable that he would check out the corridor and lean on the door whilst knowing there was a camera in the room.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 26/06/2021 11:08

Those saying they don't understand why people vote Tory should try living here. Last general election there was a choice between the sitting Tory MP and a young girl who was nice enough but didn't have any 'presence' standing for Labour. Local Council Elections one or two Labour for the unitary authority, but in the town Council election one independent and all the rest Conservative candidates. So guess what - Conservative across the board. Believe me I would love to oust the Tories, but unless there is credible opposition it won't happen.

hamstersarse · 26/06/2021 11:09

I’ve probably watched too many political dramas but I do think he’s been set up and she’s in on it

Her body language is just so off. She isn’t gagging to get in his pants, that’s clear.

It doesn’t take away the fact he broke the rules while all the plebs have been plodding along like zombies.

I can’t see how anyone can follow the rules anymore (nb he was clear to reference them as guidelines yesterday. He usually calls them rules)

LouLou198 · 26/06/2021 11:09

@ItsSnowJokes

There is just something not quite right with the video. It's awkward as hell and just doesn't seem like a couple having a fling. I can't quite put my finger on why, but it just seems staged and weird. And like others have said he would surely know where the cctv cameras are. Its all very odd.

He's a massive twat, and his wife must be in bits, and personally I think he should be sacked, he won't be, but he should be.

Yes I thought the same. They look awkward together.

I am very pleased you have replied, because I have never before met anyone who has tried to defend the government on this, although you do seem to have mostly engaged in pointless whataboutery.

Are you also supportive of having primary schools open for a day in January in order to demonstrate how big and strong one is and that one would not listen to the teaching unions who since they are made up of teachers who work in schools clearly know nothing about schools?
