To be saddened but unsurprised by Britney Spears' testimony?

Listening to this and hearing Britney talk about the control of her father reminded me of watching the documentary Amy and I feel the same sort of Mitch Winehouse/Amy Winehouse vibe and we all know how that ended.

Someone is either too mentally ill to be in control of their own life or they are deemed well enough to be a judge on The X Factor, do a four-year Vegas live show followed immediately by a world tour. It can't be both.

"I haven't done anything in the world to deserve this treatment. It's not okay to force me to do anything I don't want to do"

It amazes me she has to answer to her sister who once leapt over a counter and brandished a knife at a restaurant full of people when she fell out with them tbh.
They're pimping her out for money, they need to stop being such parasites.

@MobyDicksTinyCanoe wow do you have a link for that? Never gears that story before
Mytwopennysworth · 28/06/2021 12:49

@MobyDicksTinyCanoe that’s not exactly right. A fight broke out in a restaurant and her friend was trapped in the middle of it, she apparently pulled her friend out then went behind the counter and got a knife in some effort to stop the fight. There are a few articles online @MrsRockAndRoll

www.tmz.com/2015/01/13/jamie-lynn-spears-knife-fight-sandwich-shop-video/

Granted not the best move, but I don’t think it can be really used against her. Not that I like her, she’s as bad as the others and I think was hoping to take over control after her dad.

PetuniaButterworth · 28/06/2021 13:05

My understanding was that Jamie Lynn’s was only a trustee to a specific account and her role as a trustee was to ensure that, upon Britney’s death, the entirety of her assets are transferred to the trust and devoted to caring for her children. I don't think this gives her any power in the convservership and haven't read any reports regarding her trying to take on additional roles in it. I'm happy to be corrected

Statement from Jamie Lynn today...

Jamie Lynn Spears: I'm so proud of Britney for using her voice www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-57649648

I think this seems very genuine on the face of it.

SummerBreeze1980 · 30/06/2021 19:28

@TatianaBis - people with paranoid schizophrenia are not usually actively dangerous to anyone. They are generally more at risk of harm from others.

TatianaBis · 30/06/2021 19:32

Never said they were I was simply referring to those that are.

I can think of 4 cases of people killed by a paranoid schizophrenic who were living in care in the community with far more freedom than Britney has had.

SummerBreeze1980 · 30/06/2021 20:05

@Awalkintime - I think sometimes mental illnesses are misdiagnosed, definitely. And best treatment is often not available. However, I have EUPD (also known as BPD). The diagnosis does not mean there is anything wrong with your personality, that is a common misconception. The current understanding of the condition is that there are differences in the brain which can give you a predisposition and then there is an invalidating environment during childhood. Most but not all people with the illness have suffered trauma. I was very lucky to receive gold standard treatment. This includes therapy specifically for trauma. Part of the treatment also involved reducing medications after therapy. I need a lot of medication but I am not 'doped up'. In many ways I am not 'normal' and never will be. But my medication and therapy help me cope with my symptoms and enable me to live a life worth living.

SummerBreeze1980 · 30/06/2021 20:10

@TatianaBis - there are many, many more people with schizophrenia living very normal lives, with no care atall. They are not 'schizophrenics' (extremely outdated terminology) they are people who happen to have schizophrenia. Many who may be reading this thread. Please give a little thought to how they may feel, when already living with a condition that has so much misunderstanding and stigma attached.

TatianaBis · 30/06/2021 20:31

Why not give a little thought to the people who have been on the receiving end of violence from mentally ill too.

Not that this actually has any bearing on the thread. The point is that some people are so severely mentally unwell that they have to be in secure units for their own safety.

Britney is not one of them. She is simply someone who may or may not be living with mental illness. 13 years incarceration is therefore extraordinary.

Awalkintime · 30/06/2021 20:33

@SummerBreeze1980 That's ok to disagree with me, I believe something different.

SummerBreeze1980 · 30/06/2021 20:55

@TatianaBis.- using derogatory language and misinformation towards the mentally unwell helps noone. If people feel less stigmatised they are more likely to seek support and continue treatment. This helps those who may be at threat from a person with a mental illness. And I have been that person who was at threat. That is why I'm so passionate about this subject.

SummerBreeze1980 · 30/06/2021 20:56

@Awalkintime - as is your right. As I said I do agree with what you say happening some of the time but I just wanted to let you know it is not always like that.

TatianaBis · 30/06/2021 22:01

What derogatory language?

That I can think of 4 cases of people killed by a paranoid schizophrenic is simply a fact. I can link the cases if you’d like.

The most recent trial ended last week and actually involved a family I know very well.

This thread is about Britney Spears, so please stop trying to make it about yourself and your issues. If you want to start a support thread for mental illness go right ahead.

Awalkintime · 30/06/2021 22:26

SummerBreeze1980 - thank you for letting me know your opinions.

SummerBreeze1980 · 01/07/2021 08:03

@TatianaBis - calling someone a 'schizophrenic' is derogatory as I pointed out in my last post. It is awfully sad that 4 people were killed, however the majority of people with schizophrenia do not kill and the majority of killers do not have schizophrenia. That is simply fact. I am merely calling out the stigmatisation of mental illness. This is not about my issues but society's issues with mental health. Not sure I'd get very far starting a thread asking people to tell me the derogatory and misinformed things they say about people with mental illness!

SummerBreeze1980 · 01/07/2021 08:05

@Awalkintime - you're welcome.

TatianaBis · 01/07/2021 09:39

You didn’t specify in your wittering what you had an issue with.

‘Schizophrenic’ is not derogatory, it’s simply a diagnosis. See also Anorexic, Bulimic, Obsessive Compulsive, Bipolar, EUPD etc.

You’re not actually calling out anyone you’re just calling attention to yourself.

AliceMcK · 01/07/2021 16:51

Ffs you two take ur somewhere else, your taking the thread off topic, again.

TatianaBis · 01/07/2021 16:52

@AliceMcK

She seems to given up on her crusade.

Do you have anything to contribute?

UndertheCedartree · 02/07/2021 07:39

@AliceMcK - apologies. I just hate seeing such disregard for people with mental illness. Some people are just unable to take on any new information and fight it all the way.

@TatianaBis - look up person first language - although it's hardly new!

And with that I'll derail no more! Sorry folks!
