To ask for ‘tacky‘ holiday suggestions?!

My DD and I have been on all kinds of holidays together and the ones we have enjoyed the most have been typical English seaside places with arcades and amusements. Blackpool was brilliant and we also enjoyed Clacton on Sea, Butlins and Southend. Can anyone recommend similar destinations in that are on the coast that we might enjoy. Sandy beach is preferable to pebbles! Thanks!

Monaco
Lol. Thats the other end of the tacky spectrum.....!

Just staying near Great Yarmouth at the mo. We visited yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and general presentation of all the tacky stuff along the seafront. It all looked fresh and clean, the flower displays were lovey, the beach looked clean and it all had a lovely atmosphere. Loads of arcades and traditional amusements. Some really beautiful buildings too; it must have been a real magnet in the first half of the 20th century with all the theatres there are.
Lovely pier, with end of the pier shows.
Norfolk is blessed with the most amazing beaches. Better IMO than the Caribbean on a sunny warm day like today. You can walk for miles and not see another soul if that’s your thing.

Torquay, home of Basil Fawlty. Hippy Totnes is down the road, if you want a day trip to somewhere totally different.

idontlikealdi · 24/06/2021 14:05

Margate, if you don't mind the needles, shit on the floor, weeing in general public.

Broadstairs, Herne bay, any of the beaches off from Camber

DrCoconut · 24/06/2021 14:07

Skegness. Arcades and tat shops everywhere!

DrCoconut · 24/06/2021 14:14

@VoyageInTheDark do you remember the big shop/indoor market up near the clock tower in Skegness? Sold music posters, t shirts and general tat? Me and my brother loved it in there in the 90s. Grandad took us regularly, always parked near the pier and we got lunch at Tony's chippy. And the terrible ghost train under the pier 😂

Lipsandlashes · 24/06/2021 14:23

Great Yarmouth, Hunstanton, Skegness or Barry Island (latter has the added bonus of being close to Cardiff, which is a brilliant city)

SunSeaSurfGin · 24/06/2021 14:24

Skegness
Newquay
Weston super mare

markmichelle · 24/06/2021 14:47

These for grown ups only.
We had a good time in Blackpool (for the illuminations) found some good but down market pubs and restaurants.
Used to go to Southend for weekends that were so tacky we bought some bad taste clothes to suit. Great fun
Choose the Country Music weekends at holiday camps. Enjoy
Completely different for chartered accountants.

ElinoristhenewEnid · 24/06/2021 14:55

Jaywick if you really want a holiday away from all civilisation!

edie89 · 24/06/2021 14:59

@NewLifeInTheSouth I grew up going to Ruda at Croyde Bay (where you're referring to) and my parents are multi millionaires 😂 it's beautiful in Croyde. Yes, you do sound like a snob.

SpacePug · 24/06/2021 15:04

We just got back from skegness and loved it! Caravan for a week, was a brill holiday

possumgoddess · 24/06/2021 15:17

Try Paignton in Devon. There is a long sandy beach, a long promenade, a pier, and streets full of typical seaside resort tackiness. It is also beautiful and not too far from Dartmoor if you wanted something a bit different.... Oh, and there are steam trains from there too!

NewLifeInTheSouth · 24/06/2021 15:18

edie89 I think you misread my post. I know Croyde is beautiful and I said that. I was talking specifically about a holiday park there that is all buffet food, a tacky club house and the sound of amusement arcade machines in the background. I wasn't slurring Croyde as a place.

I know some multimillionairs who live there too, incidentally. Maybe it's your parents.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/06/2021 15:19

Skeggy

BlackeyedSusan · 24/06/2021 15:19

just go when the tide is in though...

mud up to your thighs

FionaCorkesWardrobebyKamizole · 24/06/2021 15:29

Felixstowe. Great arcade and funfair/amusement park on the seafront.
Plenty of tacky things for the kids to enjoy and loads of fish n chips/doughnuts/candy floss for them to throw up later.

SarahBellam · 24/06/2021 15:33

The tackiest place I’ve ever been was the Pontins in Southport. Everything about it is breathtakingly tacky. Read the reviews on Tripadvisor before you make any decisions though, and know what you’re getting yourself into.

Goodness I ended up down a rabbit hole on those reviews.

I'm shocked they are still in business tbh! blood and vomit in the beds!? mould in the bathroom and electrictiy is an "extra".

No words.

@user1493494961

Skegness and Mablethorpe have everything on your wish list. I know it's subjective but Llandudno and Barmouth aren't tacky.
Lladudno pier is slightly tacky!
cricketmum84 · 24/06/2021 16:39

Woah.

Filey and Scarborough are not bloody "tacky".

If you don't like the Yorkshire coast then bugger off somewhere else.

Ohmygoshandfolly · 24/06/2021 16:55

I don’t think Scarborough is very tacky. Bridlington is a dive though so I’d go for that. Skegness and Great Yarmouth are also shitholes.

LadyPoison · 24/06/2021 16:59

@ClippettyClop

Llandudno is fab but is quite staid. Rhyl on the other hand ...
I was thinking Colwyn Bay, Abergele and Prestatyn would fit the bill nicely
RovenderKitt · 24/06/2021 22:25

Skegness - loads to do and mile after mile of sandy beach. Cheap as well.

openallflowers · 24/06/2021 22:38

Torbay
Newquay
Margate
Brighton has loads going on
