To ask for ‘tacky‘ holiday suggestions?!

Mummadeze · 24/06/2021 08:33

My DD and I have been on all kinds of holidays together and the ones we have enjoyed the most have been typical English seaside places with arcades and amusements. Blackpool was brilliant and we also enjoyed Clacton on Sea, Butlins and Southend. Can anyone recommend similar destinations in that are on the coast that we might enjoy. Sandy beach is preferable to pebbles! Thanks!

Knackered are you in the habit of stereotyping people by assuming certain attitudes and behaviours on account of their skin tone? I believe there is a word for that. Hang on, it'll come to me in a minute...

SticksAndStoned · 24/06/2021 08:57

Wtf is happening on this thread! So what if op described the holidays as 'tacky'.

a) she's describing something she enjoys

b) she's describing the holiday, not the place

People are so quick to get offended at nothing at the moment. It's getting to the point that it will be impossible to say anything without someone taking offence.

Hoseasons and Pontins might be up your street, op. I hope you find somewhere you enjoy.

@Knackeredneon

In my experience only right-wing gammons use phrases like offenderati. How embarrassing for you.

Y'all are probably the same ones bleating on about toilets too.

So you call people gammons and wankers. What a charmer. In my experience people who call others gammons are ignorant and bigoted.

Paignton is lovely, nice beach at goodrington sands with steam trains going past. Lots of arcades/crazy golf etc and great days out in the area. Model Village nearby at babbacombe too

Oh and I have never voted Tory or any other right wing party not that it fits your bigoted nasty stereotype.

Weymouth is lovely has the amusements but a beautiful sandy beach and harbour

DynamoKev · 24/06/2021 09:06

Portrush on the Antrim coast has a fabulous place called Barry’s which is full of old 2p slot machines and the like - lovey atmosphere and beaches are beautiful locally. Handy for Giant’s Causeway and other attractions too.

Iamthewombat · 24/06/2021 09:13

This thread has everything. Great title, pulled me in instantly. A concept I can get on board with (I like this type of holiday too). Bristling offence on the first page, expertly slapped down.

You need the north Wales coast for this, OP. Good luck!

ChainJane · 24/06/2021 09:16

Not been to any these for a while but Great Yarmouth, Scarborough, and Skegness all tick the tacky box, in order of preference. Weymouth and Seaton are pretty "stereotypical" too but less so than the others.

I was also going to suggest Portrush, but I thought Barry's had been sold and not reopened? will do some investigations as it looks like we are yet again to holiday in NI Smile

Llandudno is fab but is quite staid. Rhyl on the other hand ...

OhGiveUp · 24/06/2021 09:24

Skeg Vegas and Cleethorpes. If you want ultimate tackiness then any Pontins, but particularly Camber sands.
Butlins do a great line in tackiness and double bonus for having a Butlins at Skeg Vegas 👍

sandgrown · 24/06/2021 09:25

FWIW I live in Blackpool and I am not offended. We all know it’s tacky but we love it!

ElaborateSalad · 24/06/2021 09:26

Mablethorpe

elQuintoConyo · 24/06/2021 09:40

Hemsby, about 7 miles north of Great Yarmouth. DS aged 7 loved it! Especially winning little rubbers, sweets and a fake Lego man from the 2p machine, thought he was in heaven Grin

llamaparades · 24/06/2021 09:42

Love Blackpool And absolutely love uk seaside breaks.

Skegness and Great Yarmouth is probably most like Blackpool but I haven't been in a few year. Also Skegness has ingoldmells and mablethorpe not far away if going by car. Mablethorpe a bit quieter. Loads to do in Great Yarmouth.

Hunstanton a bit smaller but can travel out to wells/ sheringham.

Scarborough is okay for a couple of days but wouldn't spend a week there.

suckingonchillidogs · 24/06/2021 09:43

Spent many a childhood holiday in Exmouth - sandy beach and close to Sidmouth which is nice too

DynamoKev · 24/06/2021 09:44

Nooooo - sorry for my out of date info. I was desolate at the loss of Austin's in Stroke City but this is too much.

QuitMoaning · 24/06/2021 09:51

We love Southend and Great Yarmouth and try and get to at least one of them for weekends away most years. Visited Blackpool last year and found it very depressing with lots of boarded up shops and none of its pizzazz. I went there when I was a teenager in the 1980’s and had a great time so was so sad to see it run down. Hopefully it will rise again in the future.

However I also fully recommend Great Yarmouth. It has everything a typical British seaside town should have. Good beach (although I am not a beach lover), tacky souvenir shops, donkey rides, fairground, etc. And it has plenty of holiday parks.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 24/06/2021 09:52

Mablethorpe

babbaloushka · 24/06/2021 09:54

Another for Margate and Rhyl. Reeming with tack, the kids loved it!

NotQuiteUsual · 24/06/2021 09:55

Mablethorpe is amazing, the beach is beautiful.

DynamoKev · 24/06/2021 09:58

Susan Calman is doing a programme each night next week from UK seaside resorts - Great Yarmouth is first, 8pm Monday C5

Yesitsbess · 24/06/2021 09:59

Weston for the break, with a day out to Brean if you're feeling super retro. Brean has a surprisingly lovely (windy) beach and a funfair/arcades.

sbhydrogen · 24/06/2021 10:01

Haven't been there since I was 10 but Hunstanton sounds like it would fit the bill.
