To hope someone can help me to remember this early 90s cartoon?

I first tried to remember this animated series about 20 years ago, and I think of it every few years but get nowhere. Googling never throws up the right programme, and you're about to realise why: I recall almost nothing about it Grin

Here's what I recall:

CITV
Very early 90s, maybe late 80s but I'm fairly sure it's 90 something.
Theme tune reminded me of Ordinary World by Duran Duran
Animated
Set on an island/group of islands
Opening credits are an aerial view of the island (s)

It is not Charlie Chalk or Cockleshell Bay. It probably wasn't very long-lived.

I'm not holding out much hope, and appreciate that's not much to go on. Please help me to lay this to rest!

On the topic of old kids shows ive resigned myself to never knowing the name of one that I remember, an 80s drama (maybe even 70s) where a kid or kids were lost in a Cornish mine and there was water rushing in until a ghost boy pointed the way out and they survived. It haunted me!

everton01 · 23/06/2021 17:39

Princ valiant, best theme tune ever, end credits

everton01 · 23/06/2021 17:39

Prince Valiant even!

rozee83 · 23/06/2021 17:44

Bravestarr? That has an opening scene of an island map?

TheCatTiger · 23/06/2021 17:47

No idea what that is, it does sound like Cities of Gold tbh.

It being Islands, my brain is getting stuck on Animal Crossing New Horizons.

There's one that's been driving me crazy for years and I can't remember what programme it was. I think it was a kids TV series. The bit I remember was some kids were (staying?) in this big house and one day they realised that there were more windows outside than there were rooms/windows inside to account for them. On investigation, they found a bump in the wall on the inside in one of the rooms. They stripped back the wallpaper many layers and found a door handle to a hidden room.

I just need to know that what was in that room wasn't what I remember it being! It's haunted me for years.

Does anyone remember it or was it a dream I had? What was that programme/film called? What was in that room?!

Nobranothanks · 23/06/2021 17:49

Its not the littl' bits is it?? It was broadcast in the era you're in about and whenever I mention it everyone thinks I've invented it!!!

Cotswoldmama · 23/06/2021 18:01

@InsideNumberNine you are the only person know who has also heard of the bluffers! I think it was on very early in the morning, I remember waking up early and my mum saying go and watch TV! Sometimes it would be 4am!

MoominMaven · 23/06/2021 18:06

I think it was mosschops… about a green dinosaur and his island friends.

Thay sounds amazing!

I have a similar one I can't remember which involved kids, ghosts and some kind of holiday camp. Possibly at a big old house in the 70s. (Tho that bit may be from Moondial). Terrifying. No idea what it is.

Curbaisti · 23/06/2021 18:15

Unico in the island of magic?

Tinkerbellatrix · 23/06/2021 18:21

@Nobranothanks I remember the Littl' Bits - I'd started to think it was only ever on my TV as nobody else seems to!

CHIShandler · 23/06/2021 18:25

@Fluffykins2020

20 years ago was the early 2000's! The 80s was 40 years ago.
Yes, that's right. I started trying to remember this programme back in October 2000. I first watched it back in the 80s or very early 90s.

My husband and I often talk about the Bluffers. The theme and opening titles were great. Was the baddie Clandestino?

Oooo did this involve some weird tapping sound that was a warning just before the mine would collapse, or is that another show I can't quite remember?! I remember being freaked out at the time!
Vivianebrookskoviak · 23/06/2021 18:31

Well, the intro to 'Gophers!' had like islands at the beginning. Still love that show but only ever 2 or 4 episodes on YouTube.
Moondial I still have the video of somewhere.
Other programs that spring to mind that haven't been mentioned so far-
Tom's Midnight Garden
Elly and Jools (Australian, aired on C4 I think!)
Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds
(Yes the theme tune was cool!)
There was another one I vaguely remember from the late 80s about a secret garden, or a stately home, not Moondial or Tom's Midnight Garden but something else.
Moondial is a classic though.
I think the BBC did quite a few atmospheric dramas in the late 80s so it could be one I've not mentioned that they produced?

Not islands but sort of an aerial shot... Telebugs?

I remember Shoe people.
Was the Get-Along Gang shown in the UK?

knickerelasticgonetwang · 23/06/2021 18:34

Was it Barnacle Bill

Vivianebrookskoviak · 23/06/2021 18:34

@SpringLoadedJizz

Yes, I remember The Shoe People too! I remember watching it in holiday in Wales and they'd dubbed it into Welsh, ooh that would have been 1989!

HyggeTygge · 23/06/2021 18:35

Juniper Jungle?

Vivianebrookskoviak · 23/06/2021 18:40

@HyggeTygge

I was a huge Get Along Gang fan, had the figures, toys, books with cassette etc, toybox etc, but I don't remember the cartoon being aired here. I only knew of the cartoon a few years back.

There was a Fabuland cartoon on YouTube based on the Lego toys which I only knew of 8 years ago as I had the lego as a child and still have some of it.

Still love Danger Mouse though! Grin
