To think that a super king won’t be that different to a king

Please help settle an argument with DH. If you changed from a King to Super King, did you actually really notice the difference? Also, would you recommend a Super king?

Yabu - a super king is awesome
Yanbu - stick with a king

For everyone with an Emperor, where are you getting your bedding from?

We’ve had an Emperor for a few years and really struggle to get duvet sets. The only ones that I can ever find are always really naff (Kylie Minogue home range!)

BritWifeInUSA · 21/06/2021 05:06

We have an American king size which is a few inches wider than a UK super king and I wouldn’t change it for the world. We had a Queen when I first moved here, which is the same size as a UK king and we have that in one of the spare rooms now and it looks like a doll’s bed.

Rowgtfc72 · 21/06/2021 05:39

We bought a king as dh is 6ft 6 and his feet overhang a double. Now he can put his head on the headboard and his feet on the footboard. Very much liking the sound of a super king though!

SimonJT · 21/06/2021 06:04

We have a superking, as much as we’re both snugglers having the option to have space is really needed.

Right now in bed theres all 96kg of me, my husband, a cat, the dog and my six year old. No one is squished (well I am as I’m apparently my sons designated mattress), if its hot you don’t feel the heat of your partner etc.

Bedding is only expensive if you want it to be, we have a linen set on at the moment which was a bit pricey, our other set is from ikea and was very cheap, our ikea mattress protector was about £10.

@Aquamarine1029

Always get a super king if you have the room. There is a huge difference between a SK and a king.
What counts as having the room though? We are buying a new bed soon. We have a double and definitely have the space for a king, but a superking would have us shuffling down the sides of the bed to get in.
miltonj · 21/06/2021 06:36

When we stay with my parents we sleep In a superking. I love it. You can cuddle If you want to but you're not forced to! We have king size at home as our bedroom won't fit a superking. It's big enough but not luxurious. No idea how some couples sleep in a double though?!

Konga · 21/06/2021 09:03

@miltonj I guess we don’t know any different so far? DH doesn’t disturb my sleep. I’m the one who’s tossing and turning, so maybe I disturb him 😬

Would 50cm down each side of the bed be enough?

Willyoujustpivot · 21/06/2021 09:25

I actually got my bed frame from Facebook, and mattress from Otty. Not sure the mattress will ever be leaving my house without being cut in half though as it comes all rolled up in a box!

We get bedding from Amazon for a reasonable price (trial and error on quality initially though)

Itsjustamoment · 21/06/2021 09:39

Huge difference between a king and a super-king. We had a super and had to downsize to a king due to space. I've fallen out of it twice.

Konga · 21/06/2021 12:08

Bumping to see if anyone will tell me how much space I need for a superking 😁

StarlingsDarlings · 21/06/2021 12:26

I guess it depends how important the extra bed space is to you Konga ? I’ve just ordered a super king and will need to lose my bedside table to fit it in. Having 50cm spare sounds fine to me.

GlutenFreeGingerCake · 21/06/2021 12:35

We squeeze round one edge of ours and can't fit in much other bedroom furniture but it's worth it.

aSofaNearYou · 21/06/2021 12:38

Huge difference. I have a super king, the only downside is DP and I now really struggle to sleep in conventionally sized bed, which is a bit rubbish when visiting people or on holiday!

grey12 · 21/06/2021 12:54

Depends. A king is lovely for a couple Smile

however it doesn't fit our 3 kids. 2 was alright but we need a little more space now Grin wondering if we'll have space in the new house....

userchange8945 · 21/06/2021 13:08

@Konga our bedroom is 4.5m x 3.6m and it's ample big enough, still have bed side tables, dressing table and wardrobes with walking space. If that helps.

Mamamamasaurus · 21/06/2021 13:14

YABVVVVVU

I wouldn't swap my SKS for all the tea in Tesco now. Buying bedding for it is a bit irksome but I order online now so that's made it easier.

Do it - it's a game changer.

poorfanjo · 21/06/2021 13:36

I want to upgrade my bed to super king, where did you get your mattresses from?

Konga · 21/06/2021 17:52

Thanks for the answers about space. This is a very persuasive thread on the benefits of superking over kingsize! I guess I thought going up to king would feel luxurious enough after a double, but I don’t want to be disappointed and wishing we’d gone for bigger when we had the chance.

Toiletrollbuyer · 21/06/2021 17:56

Superking is amazing, and we’ve just bought one of those dormeo octaspring mattresses which is a game changer. Only challenge is finding bedding. DP is particularly fussy about bedding and places like dunelm are often sold out of superking bedding. We did the thing with 2 single mattresses for a bit but the gap in the middle got annoying even with a topper.

userchange8945 · 21/06/2021 17:58

We only get plain white bedding so find it very easy to come by! We get it from Soak and Sleep.

YellowFish12 · 21/06/2021 17:58

100999999987655% you will notice the difference from a king to a super king

Toiletrollbuyer · 21/06/2021 18:00

@TerribleCustomerCervix I agree about changing the bedding! I tried twice and now it’s DPs job to do the bedding change. You need at least an hour and arms that are 10ft wide 😓

Grenlei · 21/06/2021 18:10

My partner has a king at his house. I used to have just a double at mine.

When I upgraded my bed last year, he was sceptical as to whether there was any need for a superking. I got one anyway because I am my own woman :)

He now feels his bed is slightly on the small side and considering buying a SK himself!

I would say though when we stayed at a luxury hotel some years ago we had a bed that was about 7ft wide and frankly that was too big. SK is just right.

This was exactly my thinking! I didn't want to get a king and always be wondering what a SK was like.

I definitely don't regret my decision. I sleep on my own in mine about 70% of the time and it is bloody lovely.

AlTempleton · 21/06/2021 18:14

We got a zip and link superking from Hotel Contract Beds. Two mattresses, zipped together, two single quilts - I have cool and heavy wool, he has light and hot down.

Aaaaamazing. I'd sell my entire family before I gave up that bed.
