To think that a super king won’t be that different to a king

Please help settle an argument with DH. If you changed from a King to Super King, did you actually really notice the difference? Also, would you recommend a Super king?

Yabu - a super king is awesome
Yanbu - stick with a king

Following my separation I now have a SK to myself and I'm not sure how I'll ever share it again! Big difference to a king and I fear I'd fall out of a double now Grin

YABU

Susie477 · 20/06/2021 22:21

If you have the space, Super King every time. It’s a no-brainier. Each partner can have their own single duvet, too, which combines the benefits of sharing a bed with those of having one all to yourself.

Rainbowx · 20/06/2021 22:21

Superking is 100% better I would never go back !

fedupandfiredup · 20/06/2021 22:22

Superking!!! You will never look back Grin

OldTinHat · 20/06/2021 22:22

Really massive difference! Super kings are perfect for a couple, a dog and two toddlers! Once divorced, kids have left home and the dog is no more then a king will just about do 😁 speaking from experience from the middle of my king!

WellTidy · 20/06/2021 22:23

You’ll never regret going bigger, but you may regret going smaller. DH and I have never had anything smaller than a king, but right now we have a emperor (7 foot wide). Bliss. It’s a shocker when we stay overnight in someone’s home and it’s a double!

MirandaMarple · 20/06/2021 22:23

Pressed send too soon...

There is loads of bedding available - the Internet.

If we stay in hotels we check the specific size of beds otherwise we have a twin room. We camp and have separate king airbeds.

RaindropsOnRosie · 20/06/2021 22:24

SKs are excellent, especially for viking sized husbands

Mum2jenny · 20/06/2021 22:24

Superkings are amazing but changing the bedding is pretty crap!!

SockQueen · 20/06/2021 22:24

I was sceptical for ages but got a superking with memory foam mattress when I was pregnant with DS2 and could not get comfy, and I've never looked back! It can be a bit harder/more expensive to get bedding but we actually use two single duvets (also life-changing for us) so it's just the sheets that cost more.

User135792468 · 20/06/2021 22:25

Thank you for all the replies. I’d say it’s unanimous! DH is very smug right now as he says I’m a bed hog.

I’ve never even heard of an emperor bed but can’t see them on quite a few mainstream sites. We would have room for one of those too but I think bedding would be really hard to find.

It looks like we’ll be the proud owners of a super king soon Grin.

If you have the space for a superking then its really worth it imo

User135792468 · 20/06/2021 22:26

For those mentioning emperors, can I ask where you got it please?

Thelnebriati · 20/06/2021 22:27

You will regret it every time you have to change the duvet cover Grin

Trevsadick · 20/06/2021 22:27

My aim in life is to own a house with a big enough bedroom for me to have a super king. I absolutely love them!

grapewine · 20/06/2021 22:28

YABU. It's so worth it. I'm never going to back to a smaller bed

MuchTooTired · 20/06/2021 22:30

I thought that there’s next to no difference between a super king and a king, so when we bought out most recent mattress we went down to king size.

There is a massive difference. Huge. I don’t like anybody else in my sleep space and dh is there. I know he’s there. I share my life with him and our bed so it’s ok (most of the time) but when it comes to new mattress time I am not accepting anything smaller than super king EVER AGAIN!

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 20/06/2021 22:30

If you've got the room you'll never go back. SK is awesome. But don't disregard the additional cost of bed linen - you can't find cheap stuff as most ranges stop at King and whenever places like dunelm have a sale the super king stuff is gone straight away.
I reckon the cost of dressing and buying a duvet for our SK bed added £300

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 20/06/2021 22:30

Another down side is you will never, ever be able to cope with a double bed in a hotel again 😂

Sunshinegirl82 · 20/06/2021 22:31

I love our super king, love it! We have one from IKEA with shelves in the headboard so no need for bedside tables, game changer!

I've never found it hard to find bedding, all the places I would usually look for bedding do super king, dunelm, Next, habitat etc. Changing the bed is a bit of an ordeal though, I usually have to sit down for 5 minutes afterwards, it's a workout!

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 20/06/2021 22:32

Omg do it, you won't regret it.....until you have to change the bedding!!
I love mine but being 5'2 i do get a work out (turn into a sweary mess) turning the mattress and changing the bedding.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/06/2021 22:32

Huge difference

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 20/06/2021 22:32

Omg we stayed at the Crillon once in an emperor bed. That was orgasmic. Could literally roll over and over and over and still be on the bed !

MyDcAreMarvel · 20/06/2021 22:33

Get your own duvets too, double is best. Easier to change and no pulling of the duvet, can have your own tog.
