To think that a super king won’t be that different to a king

Please help settle an argument with DH. If you changed from a King to Super King, did you actually really notice the difference? Also, would you recommend a Super king?

Yabu - a super king is awesome
Yanbu - stick with a king

It’s life changing

PawsQueen · 20/06/2021 23:10

Super king. I have one to myself and change the bedding and it's not that bad!
Bedding I get from next, la redoute, TK maxx, Asda, Joules. Depends how much you want to spend really

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 20/06/2021 23:12

Also if, like me, you are going to bed cross with your DH, you are so far away from them you don't actually need to go anywhere near them 😆

Serin · 20/06/2021 23:16

Wait till you hit the menopause and need your own (cool) bit as far away from partner as possible.

Davros · 20/06/2021 23:29

@mawbroon

We now have two separate single mattresses on ours as well as single sheets and duvets. No wrestling with massive sheets and duvet covers needed.

We have different types of mattresses and duvets. We can also choose when to wash our own side of the bed. Handy with my peri night sweats!

And if you're feeling really petty, you can just make your own side of the bed 🤣🤣

This exactly
safariboot · 20/06/2021 23:35

All the superking insisters must be made of money.

TheWelshposter · 20/06/2021 23:40

I'm the opposite. ..i have a super king but am considering a king.
It's just so massive and I keep thinking i would prefer more space in the room. Also, often I see nice bedsets that don't come in superking size.
Would I be making a mistake to downsize? Aaah

StarlingsDarlings · 20/06/2021 23:40

I’ve just ordered a new superking bed, will be upgrading from a double. Felt a bit worried when I saw this thread! But glad the consensus is that SK is worth it. I’ll be sacrificing my bedside table to make room for it.

noirchatsdeux · 20/06/2021 23:43

I've had a SK for 9 years now. First time I changed the duvet it took me a full hour...didn't realise the duvet stripes go horizontal, not vertical. Nowadays it takes me 5 minutes. Bedding is more expensive (it's only me here 90% of the time so I'm not bothering with separate duvets etc) by easy to get...Littlewoods, M&S do nice sets, and there's a very good egyptian cotton one on Wilkos!

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/06/2021 23:50

Dh and I wanted to buy a king before we went to live abroad. But the delivery times were too late. Soooo glad we didn’t as we ended up with a superking and 2 mattresses. The bliss element didn’t wear off for a very long time.

BearOfEasttown · 20/06/2021 23:50

I'd suggest separate bedrooms, not a super king. You can still hear the fecker snoring with a super king!

Mother87 · 20/06/2021 23:52

@HariboBrenshnio

Following my separation I now have a SK to myself and I'm not sure how I'll ever share it again! Big difference to a king and I fear I'd fall out of a double now Grin
I agree!! Me & DH currently/amicably separated - and had been in separate rooms for a while, so I've had the SK to myself. BLISS. We're working on reconciling - but will still 'enjoy' our own space in the bedroom... love itGrinBlush Whenever we've been in a hotel, even the King size feels prohibitive...
MenaiMna · 20/06/2021 23:55

Title made me think this was a republican debate. But YES it's worth it if you have the room. Price of bedding can get a bit much but you only really need three sets ( one on, one in the wash, one just in case). Ullvide fitted sheet from IKEA is very comfortable and a crazy bargain, Dvala even cheaper (available online). I need 100% natural fibres and buy duvet sets etc. in the sale from la redoute, sometimes IKEA too. Consider getting king pillows too for extra comfort. Sleep well.

BearOfEasttown · 20/06/2021 23:55

@safariboot

All the superking insisters must be made of money.
Why? How much are they?
BearOfEasttown · 20/06/2021 23:56

I could never have a superking to myself, or even a double. It wouldn't feel cosy!

PurplePansy05 · 20/06/2021 23:57

Super King is much bigger and better, 100% recommend.

seepingweeping · 20/06/2021 23:59

It's much better. Highly recommend.

Waitwaitwait · 21/06/2021 00:03

Superking is massive! We had one then moved and it wouldnt fit in any of the bedrooms. I cried moving back to a king and having dp in my space 🤣

ZombiePara · 21/06/2021 00:09

I downsized from a superking to a king when we moved...

Regretted it almost immediately.

PawsQueen · 21/06/2021 00:59

@safariboot definitely not made of money! I bought the bed frame maybe 14 years ago, and I've had a new mattress since. Bedding can be bought from Asda or eBay cheaply

PawsQueen · 21/06/2021 01:00

Actually the frame is 18 years old Blush it's a metal one though and has lasted really well

LoveFall · 21/06/2021 01:24

We have. King sized bed, in Canada. I believe it is the size of a super King in England.

We use two twin sized duvets and covers, so we only need a King sized bottom fitted sheet.

We have stayed in hotels in England in what is called a king sized bed. They are quite a bit smaller than our bed at home and feel cramped.

Go for a super king if you can. Makes a big difference.

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 21/06/2021 01:34

We have a superking bed but stuck with our king size bedding (for cost and bed changing reasons). Said we would buy superking if we felt we needed it but haven’t yet upgraded 7yrs on!

Crazycakelady17 · 21/06/2021 01:35

Wish we would upgrade to a super king but we are in the box room to give the kids the biggest rooms
Our king fits snugly up to 3 of the walls and DH has to climb over me to get out
Can’t wait till they have all left home super king he we come

EveryoneIsThere · 21/06/2021 01:42

I agree with everyone else that a super king is much better than a king.

I'd suggest that you consider buying two separate singles to put together to make your king. There will be a small gap but if you use a mattress topper you won't notice it. It's practical to have two separate mattresses as they are easy to move, can be cheaper and you can each buy one that suits you.

We've done this and love it. We have a mattress topper and use regular super king size bedding
