But why is it irrelevant or offensive to ask why jokes based on one type of stereotype and inequality are deemed to be acceptable when jokes about other types of stereotype and inequality are quite rightly deemed to be totally inappropriate?

Nobody is saying that the negative impact of racist and sexist jokes is exactly the same, or that experiences of racism and sexism are directly comparable, because they obviously are not. However, there are some clear parallels and I think it's reasonable to ask people why they it's fine to reinforce one type of inequality when they would probably be horrified at the idea of perpetuating a different type.

What are some examples of things you think people should be able to say without 'somebody getting offended'?
