A close family member playing for Scotland tonight, been sitting at the edge of our seats all night. He said not to celebrate, not a big deal. AIBU to think it is a big fucking deal that they have a point over England!? I am buzzing, but told to calm down. AIBU to think this is actually amazing and a step in the right direction??

OP posts:

@Scautish

Yes sir, all night long!

Scautish · 19/06/2021 12:28

The rancour and bitterness from some people here is really pathetic.

The OP started the thread in good spirit - a celebration not only of her team winning - but her wee brother playing in that match - a huge accomplishment

But rather than let the OP and the rest of us happy Scottish fans be happy, we are being told we’re pathetic, we should get a life, we’re anti-English, we’re all Scottish Nats etc

You couldn’t give us that moment could you? Have you any idea how badly this reflects on you?

But having lived in England for many many years, I know that fortunately you are not typical of the lots of lovely English people I know.

66babe · 19/06/2021 12:32

@Scautish I'm sending you a virtual pint and a plate a tattie scones !
Totally agree with all you said .. thankfully I'm mature enough to laugh it off .. come on the boys

SueSaid · 19/06/2021 12:37

'The OP started the thread in good spirit - a celebration not only of her team winning '

Oh come off it she said in her op -

'AIBU to think it is a big fucking deal that they have a point over England!? '

So bollocks to your rose tinted misrepresentation, it was clear what the agenda is.

Well done both teams on their goal less draw. I know Scotland were the underdog so yes they did very well not to be beaten.

Scautish · 19/06/2021 12:46

@JaniieJones

Scotland are ranked 44th in the world. England are 4th - one of the top teams. Germany, Argentina and The Netherlands are all lower than England

If the OP had written “AIBU to think it’s a big fucking deal we got a point against Germany” would you have taken issue with that?

It IS a big deal that we got a point as if we had lost we would have been out the competition. What do you not understand about that?

But as I say, you’re not representative of the LOVELY English people I know.

@66babe Sláinte!

JillsFlapjacks · 19/06/2021 12:47

I'm a Scot, but not a football fan. I thought there was no chance they wouldn't lose, so well done to them, and of course you should be proud of your family member Smile

massiveportion · 19/06/2021 12:59

Who's this "shit" England team I keep hearing about? Are they not second favourites to win the entire tournament behind the current world Cup holders France?? 🤔

MotherOfBeardedDragons · 19/06/2021 13:17

So proud of wee Scotland, they deserved a goal at least, but the point is still a great achievement against a world class ranked team. 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻

KingsOfTheWildFrontier · 19/06/2021 14:09

Just watching the match analysis on BBC 1, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Alex Jones look gutted! Again 3 English commentators, they were speaking briefly to James McFadden via a screen.

RedthroatedCaracara · 19/06/2021 14:32

Ooooh are they? Come on England (even though I hate football) ⚽️

plinkplinkfizzer · 19/06/2021 15:38

@Lulalu

I’m so proud for a whole nation because 22 men kicked a ball around last night and none of them scored a goal.

I’m not sure how you’re containing yourself OP - absolutely mind-blowing stuff!!!

Maybe try getting out and about today.

This is the most bitter post I've seen on here for a long time . Op we are all so proud of your Brother too 🥰
deadflowers · 19/06/2021 15:42

I fully expected England to comfortably win, and I still think we're a much better team. However, what a great show from the Scots. Bravo!!

Haudyourwheesht · 19/06/2021 17:05

That's brilliant @comebackineedyou! The first one to come to mind was Cal Mac... 🤔 You must be so proud of him whichever one he is! SmileSmileSmile And he should be really proud of himself.

moonbedazzled · 19/06/2021 18:22

We're 4th in the world and second favourite to win. Hahahaha. Who wrote that, Gary Neville? Hahaha.

Macncheeseballs · 19/06/2021 18:25

Scautish, i don't care if you're English or Scottish, I just hate the whole circus

Lulalu · 19/06/2021 18:33

I’m sorry, I didn’t realise it was the brother who played. Of course the OP would be proud of him, win or lose. Congrats OP!

But I can’t stand all the nationalistic droning that comes with football as a general rule. I avoid it like the plague. And I’m not English or Scottish by birth. It’s the same in my country - moronic chanting, grandiose statements and aggro, just over a ball.

How did they get a “point over England” though if it was a draw? Wouldn’t both teams get a point each? That makes no sense otherwise?

Also, how are England fourth in the world all of a sudden? Do they ever win anything - can’t remember the last time?

Scautish · 19/06/2021 18:39

@Macncheeseballs

So if you hate it that much why post on this thread at all? OP was happy, you are effectively telling her she’s being happy for a stupid reason - how arrogant!

Your contribution to the thread is entirely negative and that’s sad as it was a thread to celebrate.

Macncheeseballs · 19/06/2021 18:45

The obsession with football can also impact people in a negative way, its a public forum, sorry

StoneofDestiny · 19/06/2021 19:09

Your fans were a disgrace trashing London, my home

Well, after every major footie match (and even a normal Friday and Saturday night) there is rubbish left around. However, you rarely see this public spirited effort afterwards......

Are they?!?! Above Italy..Germany.. how?! Why lol.

Good on Scotland for getting a point! I dont think much was expected and it sorta reminded me of when England played Iceland..not expected to get anything from it. A draws a draw.. points a point. Good to see Billy Gilmour do well and hope Chelsea use him more

Hope they qualify.

MotherOfBeardedDragons · 19/06/2021 19:18

They are ranked 4th because of the quality of their players, not because of what, or how much they have won.

Belgium are ranked 1st and haven’t won much lately either.

Sceptre86 · 19/06/2021 19:37

Congratulations to your little brother. You should be proud. On paper and in reality England are the better and more experienced side. Almost everyone thought Scotland would lose and some of the punditry from Ferdinand, Lineker earlier in in the day was downright rude. They wrote Scotland off from the beginning. The boys did well to stop England from playing to the best of their ability.

I support England but am married to a Scot and my very Scottish kids were happy today. My ds is only 3 but was super excited, he watched the game today as was on too late on Friday.

JaquelineBean · 19/06/2021 19:43

Well I had money on Scotland to win, so I’m a bit scunnered!

But well played lads, op that must have been a great moment for you seeing your brother in such a key match, and I hope all the fans behaved themselves and helped clear up afterwards.

ArnoldJudasRimmer · 19/06/2021 19:56

YANBU at all, Scotland deserved to win that match, but a draw is still a very good result. It's been very quiet down here after that lacklustre performance and rightly so. 😁

Scautish · 19/06/2021 20:15

FFS! Yes it’s a public forum so you had two choices
  1. Roll your eyes at the fact people are talking about football and then walk on by as you can’t abide it (or even start another thread about how much you hate football)

OR

  1. Join the thread talking about a subject you hate and moan about the fact that you think it’s stupid.

You chose 2 and I’m simply questioning why you did that. This thread simply a bit of a chat for a few of us who enjoyed last night.
