Which premium brands do you think should not be premium?

For me it's Morning Fresh. I thought it was shite a decade ago. Bought it again recently and it is still crap. It doesn't lather and my usual Aldi own brand is far superior. How on earth has it survived this long?

Lindt chocolate – completely agree, nice packaging/image but so so chocolate.

Current BMW cars -on British roads, rockhard ride and cabin very noisy their runflat tires. (Okay on some smooth continental roads).

EmmaGrundyForPM · 15/06/2021 01:48

I think it's interesting to see what people consider as a "premium" brand.

I've never heard of Morning Fresh so have no idea if it's premium. I wouldn't consider Cadbury to be a premium brand. And definitely not Baylis and Harding.

TheBullfinch · 15/06/2021 01:48

So many brands which once stood for quality now dont, thanks to production in far east countries.

Instead of keeping top quality manufacturing and raising their prices, they've had things made cheaply but kept their prices the same. The result is disappointed customers, still lured in by the name of a once great brand, such as M&S, Clarkes, Dyson, Thorntons.

@Cheeseandlobster

Surprised at all the dyson bashers.

He politics stink yes but his products are great!

Nike shoes. Maybe not premium for some people but at $200 a pair in Australia they are a rip off. My boys always want them, then they fall apart within a month! Used to be way better quality when I was a teen.

I admit I'd never throw even cheap chocolate in the bin in disgust.

I did this recently. It was Lindt. I'd had Lindt before, so I knew how bad it was, but I was desperate for some full-strength so bought a slab of Lindt 90%. Luckily it was on special so I had no qualms when dropping it in the compost bin and declaring "never again". Terrible stuff yet they spend a fortune on advertising it as a gourmand's delight.

I second all the Heinz Beanz nominations, and it sounds like your UK version is as crap as our Australian-made one. The beans themselves are fine but I always rinse off the sugary, inedible sauce and plonk the beans into an arrabbiata sauce (with fine-chopped zucchini) of my own making for Gourmet Baked Beans! DD loves it.

TotorosCatBus · 15/06/2021 02:23

I consider Bayliss and Harding to be a Molton Brown wannabe dupe.

lakesummer · 15/06/2021 02:23

Paul Smith umbrella, looked pretty but absolutely awful quality.
The brands in Sainsbury's are much better quality at a tiny amount of the price.

lakesummer · 15/06/2021 02:26

@groovergirl would it not be easier just to buy a tin of haricot beans and start from there?

1forAll74 · 15/06/2021 02:39

I used to use Morning Fresh washing up liquid in the 1960 's era when I got married, and also one called Squezy. There wasn't a lot to choose from then, except from Fairy liquid.. Some older people still used to wash up with a Bar of green household soap, just swished about in a bowl of hot water,to make a few bubbles.

Ginuwine · 15/06/2021 03:11

Haha I was wondering when someone would mentioned Baylis and Harding on the wrong thread...

MK
Louis Vuitton
Pandora

bevelino · 15/06/2021 03:21

@FizzyPink

Definitely Dyson hoovers. My parents think their £500 one is amazing. It’s shit. My £100 Henry is better
This I have had various Dysons over the years but after a short while the suction goes. I recently bought a Henry on the recommendation of a builder. It is very simply made and does what it is designed to do.
Ajl46 · 15/06/2021 03:49

Rituals - expensive, smell doesn't last.
Jo Malone reed diffusers - even more expensive, smell doesn't last. Next ones are better and far cheaper (Esp the New York scent - lovely!)

Onesnowynight · 15/06/2021 04:42

Dyson- just bought a shark it’s so much better
Heinz- what is the appeal?
Karen Millen- used to be good but not any more

nettie434 · 15/06/2021 04:51

Laura Mercier make up. The foundation makes your face look smeary and the dispenser is too narrow and gets clogged up.

habibihabibi · 15/06/2021 04:52

Pandora is a marketing genuis though.
Pedalling muck metal for big bucks.

@ChunkyKitKat123

Not exactly premium but I have no idea why Next stuff is considered good. The clothes are flimsy, lots of synthetic materials, frumpy. The furniture is of the IKEA type. The prices just don't match the very average to poor quality.

M&S food...Both the fresh food and ready meals are exactly the same as stuff from the cheaper supermarkets, just nicer packaging.

It’s because Next used to be great quality. It was originally conceived as a shop to fill the gap between M&S and Jaeger and in the 80s and early 90s it did a great job of that. I used to work there and the clothes were lovely and great quality. Now it’s basically New Look with notions.
ElaineMarieBenes · 15/06/2021 05:52

Another vote for dyson! Worst ‘hoover’ ever had - never again! What a complete ripoff!

WhyYesIndeed · 15/06/2021 05:57

It has been said to death but I was so relieved when i replaced my Dyson cordless, it was an absolute piece of shit

WhyYesIndeed · 15/06/2021 06:01

This might be a niche one but Oatly - often considered the best brand of oat milk - are pricks. Ever mired in niche controversies, they’re currently trying to sue a much smaller oat milk company for (non-existent) trademark infringement. I prefer almond milk myself but i’m reliably informed that Tesco own brand oat milk is at least as nice as Oatly and much cheaper.

SarahBellam · 15/06/2021 06:04

The build quality of a Dyson used to be great, but they’re like princesses now - needs constant maintenance, won’t work if one fiddly bit won’t work, easily clogs…it’s an awful lot of ridiculous faff and Mumbai jumbo for something that essentially just sucks - it really shouldn’t be that hard.

SarahBellam · 15/06/2021 06:05

Mumbai jumbo? Sorry - mumbo jumbo 😁

MissTrip82 · 15/06/2021 06:10

I’m basically just here for the faux wide-eyed ‘goodness it never occurred to me that was a premium brand’ and ‘I’ve simply never heard of [insert name of incredibly well-known brand]’.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

More of the outrageous snob posts please.

PurpleFlower1983 · 15/06/2021 06:14

Louis Vuitton - in particular the Neverfull type bags that are made of treated CANVAS for around £1000. I think most people believe they’re leather. The craftsmanship is good but how they justify that price is beyond me.
